not much of a trek fan but I watched a bunch of them as a teen and if I remember correctly they have something like a extendable tube that can be filled with atmo in case they have to "dock" with a ship that doesnt follow federation standards. "gravity plates", teleporters/replicators, holo decks and many other things are waaaaay worse lol

Orchids symbolize thoughtfulness, and all the heros of the story were very thoughtful to the very end. Thoughtfully sacrificed himself so the rest may live, thoughtfully made use of a sacrifice to save the rest, and thoughtfully placed it as a warning to NOT TOUCH OUR BOATS

I certainly hope that poor creature's family was impressed! The youngling they didn't expect much from turned out to be a great honor to the family name through his exceptional bravery, drive, and innovation. A lesser "man" would have curled up and waited to be put out of his misery. Quite the hero!

Little surprised we don't see more ghost ship stories on similar subjects. After all, uploading a stealth Trojan virus to take over automated systems and trip them catastrophicly should be a lot easier than assaulting a ship. Would be easy picking for pirates after that. Can be used to go the other way as well. Harmless freighters have hijacked systems that then use the ships as weapons.

Installing a virus covertly is extremely difficult. You need to either bypass admin privileges or have them yourself. Neither of which just anybody can do. Even today, entire governments can't do that shit. That's why the easiest way to infiltrate a system is almost always through the employees. Phishing scams for login information.

@@noahkleugh9323there was 9nly one saboteur, the one the chief engineer killed, as for the Beacon Vazk created, following the story, it was the human ships that arrived that disabled the Emergency Beacon, we don't have specifics, but the Beacon was probably transmitting a message like, SOS L'Orchidea, that's why it was remotely disabled as soon as the Human shops exited the warp

@enigmaticspace7578
@enigmaticspace7578 3 ай бұрын
The weapons that killed the pirates were the PDs. That said, PDs doesn't mean regular PDs as we know it. This is space we're talking about. It wouldn't be far-fetched if higher caliber cannons were retained as part of the 'point defense' weapons system. Nobody knows when a bigger bang will be needed. This could also be just an oversight by the author, but it's still within the realms of plausibility. Not an unreasonable mistake, if that's indeed the case.
@inyellowclad1874
@inyellowclad1874 3 ай бұрын
@@enigmaticspace7578 yeah the weapons classified as point defense are rated for anti-piracy measures as well as taking care of space debris. The bigger stuff for frontline warfare was what got stripped.

I don't understand stories like this. The ending is like yeah the bad guys got punished, but that happened 800 years ago. That's the equivalent of punishing Mongolia for the the mongol invasions in the 13th century.
@MetalheadAndNerd
@MetalheadAndNerd 2 ай бұрын
Same here. The ending is so bad, it turns a top-notch story of this genre into s mediocre one. As if the author had to rewrite the ending to appease the redditors who decide whether the story has a chance of getting discovered by a good narrator.
@darkalpha50
@darkalpha50 2 ай бұрын
I mean, if a mass murderer killed 80 people and the case went cold but 40 years later they found out who it was wouldn't you want them to be punished or at least jailed? Or should they get away with it simply because a certain amount of time has passed? Plus we're talking about a government that still exists, knew what they did, and didn't reveal it, all voluntarily, makes sense to hold them accountable, 800 years ago or not its the same jurisdiction responsible and they could have come clean at any point, meanwhile the Mongols as we knew them in the 13th century aren't around anymore, it wouldn't make sense to punish the unrelated current Mongolian government and people.
@MetalheadAndNerd

@@MetalheadAndNerd While the People responsible for the creation of the scheme would most likely have been dead and if the information hadn't been censored from their own, the people presently who knew of the plan are guilty by complacence; they knew what was planned and yet they didn't go to the parties involved and tell of the acts taken by their predecessors. therefore the government that still exists is guilty.
