The most common times for break-ins occur between 10 am and 3 pm. Rather than being guarded by night, most burglars choose the daytime to attempt a break-in, targeting homes when they believe no one will be present.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Thinking it happens more a night is a very common misconception.

Alarm systems may not stop a smash and grab scenario but knowing that a response is on its way stops long time invasion. Light , cameras and a monitored alarm (self or company monitored) security should always be layered.

I agree. Layered is the best measure.

I don’t believe in monitoring services. However, nighttime is a “blind spot” for me and especially my wife. She likes to feel safe. I opted in for the Simplisafe Standard monitoring which is half the cost of a our current Vivint monthly monitoring. I do agree that being proactive is more important than reactive. I’ve installed more cameras in my house than sensors. Cameras set-up a perimeter of “eyes”. I didn’t install any door sensors in the house. Instead I installed more more motion sensors. It covers a larger area and you can set the sensitivity of trigger. I have a system that differentiates people and pets.

Don't get me wrong, I trust you advice with the monitored burglary alarm security systems, but I have two family members that went to jail for burglaries, and they told us that they wouldn't mess with a house that had a "insert home security company name here" security sign, they did say they didn't care about cameras. They said a lot of people use dummy cameras anyways and even if the cameras did work, they would just wear a mask or cover their faces. Anyways, I use the Blink doorbell/camera systems and I think their great.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
People say that about masks all the time, but they don’t realize cameras still give you: height, weight, gender, race, possible tattoos, possible license plates…all evidence the police can work with. What does a burglar alarm give the police…nothing. Check out my recent follow up video on the topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoiVnqdnortjepo

I have a Eufy camera system and Wyze for my security system provider. I also have a Ring Doorbell (I also like the community app-very useful for being on the lookout) and Blurams cameras inside. I am considering getting smart locks down the road. Between all of these, I am only paying abiutr $15 per month. I don't have cellular backup in my setup but it's extremely rare for burglars to cut Internet unless they are targeting a business or luxury home. I may add smart locks to my set up, and it so happens that I will be getting a Cellular failover network soon so I guess my systems will have cellular backup after all.

From experience, the only two times an alarm waits for 5 minutes before sounding is that if the entry point for the thief happens to enter an home at the entry/ exit point, or if the alarm isnt setup correctly and all points are listed entry/ exit. Otherwise it should be set up to go off immediately and an outdoor sounder should alert the neighbors as well. Alarms also have life safety. Smokes, and CO detectors. Some have the options of flood detection, remote access via cell service, not the internet, temperature monitoring etc. Alarms are more versitile than you put forward. As a professional myself, fire is a bigger danger than theft. I will say that as to theft/vandel protection, you are correct about the cameras. Overall, however, alarm systems have saved more lives.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
Alarms have only saved more lives because they’ve been in homes longer. Back in the day, there was a stigma that if you had cameras on your house, you were a drug dealer or a criminal. That stigma was ridiculous. But starting with the video doorbell revolution, that stigma is gone. Now, cameras are in every neighborhood. In fact, the first question a police officer will ask (responding to a crime), is “who in the neighborhood has cameras?”. Since this change, the advances in home security cameras & camera systems have FAR surpassed that of burglar alarms. Again, you must be dealing with the wrong cameras, because there are plenty of cameras that do everything you list that an alarm can do. Ask any police officer in any police department…cameras save lives & cameras are responsible for more crimes being solved. Cameras are more proactive in preventing crime and provide the police evidence if the criminal gets away. An alarm system does not.
@designsbyphilip5102 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeLangabeer Now you cross the barrier with cost again. An alarm system with fire devices is far cheaper than a camera system with the analytics required for fire detection. Possibily giving the ability to add a less expensive camera system that is still decent quality and an alarm system. Fyi, camera systems can not detect CO either...it is an invisible gas, even to cameras. Nor can it detect a gradual flooding basement floor due to a burst pipe in a wall. Even with analytics, the fire dept will be immediately dispatched on a monitored fire alarm vs you having to look at the cameras and taking the time to decide to call them yourself, assuming you wake up to the notification telling you to check. Alarms are so important in fact that new commercial construction is required to have smoke detectors if the building is not sprinkled. The fire codes (which are updated continuously) do not mention cameras as an alternative. I still say a home needs both to be more secure, however if you had to choose one or the other. An alarm is the best starting point.
@GeorgeLangabeer2 жыл бұрын
Lol. I’m not crossing any barriers. I’m defending my opinion. There are several cameras compatible with smoke & co alarms that will work in conjunction. So not only do you get your alert from the alarm itself, but also an alert from your camera. The response time for an alarm from most law enforcement agencies is not quick enough to be effective and often times gives people false peace of mind. But layer your security all you want. I’m all for protecting a person in every way possible. But again, you’re just looking at the wrong cameras & you’re off base if you’re telling me cameras are more expensive. When you add up the monthly fees for an alarm system, paid over time (let’s say a 3 year contract), that alarm system is going to cost quadruple any camera system I would put my stamp on. You’re talking about these cheap alarm system cameras that have a cost of like $20 to make. I’m guessing you sell alarms? Lol Ps…don’t think I’m saying this because I sell cameras. Guess what everyone, I sell alarm systems too. Lol…but I’m always going to tell people like it is. If you don’t like my opinion, so be it. We’ll just agree to disagree. But thanks for the comments. Layer your security to your heart’s content. I encourage it. But if you’re going to choose one, cameras all the way. No question. Be PROACTIVE instead of reactive.

@GeorgeLangabeer3 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. Some thieves are armed, but most are not. If they are armed, there’s a large percentage that wouldn’t actually use the weapon. Most thieves will look for houses with no deterrent. They will go to houses with no cameras, no alarm system & no dogs. You get the right dog, like an angry Pit Bull & most thieves will head to the next house. They can be the best deterrent of all.
