what an approach flying with raw data and manual thrust! Captain you are a huge inspiration to all the younger pilots in this era of automation.

Great shot :) Why there is height difference on HUD? On left side QNH is set to 1013 and difference with central part of display aprox 300 feet. Also GPWS callouts corresponds with height which is displayed on central part of HUD.
@theeyeinthecloud5 ай бұрын
We land with altimeter set to QNH and the information in the middle is radioaltimeter (height). Therefore you can conclude that CDG is roughly at 300 feet AMSL.
@chavalikumar5 ай бұрын
Think it's barometer height vs. altimeter height. Altimeter height measures how far away you are from the ground, and is useful when you are close to the ground. Barometer height measures the air pressure, and depending on that it estimates how far away you are from the sea level. Not very useful at the ground level, but very useful at the cruising altitude. Think of it like this, let's say you were assigned to fly at 30000 feet, if you are flying at the altimeter altitude, you'd be following the contours of the planet, and go up 5000 feet when you're over Denver, and sink 5000 feet if you're flying over grand canyon. The barometer height will assign you at a constant 30000 feet above expected sea level, and you can fly level. When you're close to ground, let's say if you're landing in Denver, and if you follow barometer altitude to land at 0 feet, you'd end up crashing into the ground several miles before your approach. Essentially, you'd fly to a predetermined barometric altitude height, switch to altimeter at that point, and use that as your reference to fly down to the runway.
