I've read somewhere of a Tek for growing truffles. Where instead of putting just grain they " lasagna layer" grain and coir and put a small layer of dried vermiculite on the bottom just for excess moisture. Pressure cook that for 1.5 hours at 15 psi and inoculate just like a regular grain jar. Have you tried or heard if that's better than just grain
@Mycophilia7 ай бұрын
Spawning to bulk will yield more truffles than just grain, but also takes up more space. I have lots of videos on that already on the sclerotia playlist :) Just mix with coir for more truffles, no need for layering or any of that.
@ddsherds877 ай бұрын
@@Mycophilia I catch your drift. I was referring to just leaving it in the jar not transferring
@Mycophilia7 ай бұрын
Ahh gotcha. You can do that also, that’s essentially an all in one grow bag (or tub in this case). I still would not however bother layering, or especially adding a bottom layer of vermiculite.

Hello friend, maybe you’ll see this maybe not. I harvested a mushroom from a local field that my family works at. I put it on tinfoil and I have this purple dust which I believe is the spores. What do I do next? If I can use some home products or local store products to start the growth? Thank you. Maybe if you have a video from spore to harvest with at home products… by the way I live in Florida and this is a cow dung fruit.

@@gfj06 yes. it works but you need to eat like 15 grams dried. of dried grains which isn't actually that much visually, a pin jar yielded 150 grams. I tried it with a stronger culture and 10 grams felt as strong as 15 from the weaker one. So try and get a good culture.

Nice Video, Sage. Have you thought about doing a video about using straw in leu of woodchips for woodlovers? Or is your local climate not quite right to bother with woodlovers except for maybe the ones with the uniquely-shaped cystidia? Also, is it only the Sempervivs that are good for Myceliated Grain; would maybe Hoogs or Zaps work too? Keep up the good work.
@Mycophilia7 ай бұрын
I live in a perfect climate for cold wood lovers (they grow wild here), but I have not had a chance to experiment with them yet. I keep telling myself every year but busy with the indoor stuff always 😊 Zaps are not nearly as good as semps, and there isn’t enough data on hoogs. It would be interesting to see how they stack up.

If you put only the blue mycelium on agar would there be a difference? Would its higher concentration, speed growth or increase the concentration in the fruits? And if this is true would it be smarter to do genetic agar work only with the most potent, concentrated mycelium?

Hello, Mr. Mycophilia. I am new to this stuff, and I'm already a little confused just a few minutes into this video. I heard that truffles are really expensive, in large part, due to the fact that they are difficult to grow. @Mycophilia regarding spore selection from a print, do you know if the selection point matters regarding genetics? As in, if I select the outer part of the ring, vs the inner, vs the middle, etc. Do the genetics from spores from different flushes matter?
@Mycophilia6 ай бұрын
No, but the fruits you take prints from can matter. Generally, you should take prints of the types of fruits you want more from. As most people are working with domesticated varieties, it doesn’t matter too much, but personally I have found a difference.
