One of my favorite breakdowns this year was Remember Me by Currents. Breakdowns can and should be more varied than just ch0nks and alien noises. Remember Me hits you with an ethereal lead and the vocals, while nothing too crazy, are just so emotional!

My favorite one this year was the ending of Periphery's "Everything Is Fine!" Having everything pitch shift down, slam on the brakes, and the "FUCK YOUR SANCTUARY" just quakes the earth. Pairing the word fuck with sanctuary may be my favorite artistic usage of profanity.

That and the breakdown in Wildfire, I don’t get how these can be left out. The other thing about P5 that’s just not talked about is Matt’s drumming on every single track was his best to date. Even lighter tracks like Atropos, the drumming is just S tier, but somehow flew under the radar.

It's also the best for me. I love the riffs used in both songs as well as the decision to stay away from the verse-chorus form of songwriting. I also love the vocals and layering used for "I, the Devourer" at the end of the song with the text "gut and maim." It's a truly terrifying sound. Both Disembodied Tyrant and Synestia need more recognition. I still play the entire The Divine Stigmata EP regularly.
