Hi! this has been a very relevant topic for me so I wanna give my perspective I just started using deep conditioners for the first time in like 2 years and boy it really is just a big difference. like the biggest difference I notice is how my hair maintains softness and moisture during the week, as well as the health and shine of my hair strands. Right now, I'm using either Shea moisture or tgin IMO there is a key difference between rinse-out conditioners and deep conditioners within the same line (one brand's deep conditioner might be the same level of moisturizing as another brand's rinse-out) I suggest its really worth it to find a deep conditioner you like. since deep conditioners are quite pricey, I find I save money if I pre-detangle with a rinse-out before I head into the shampoo basically, if you can easily detangle with any deep conditioner, I really don't think rinse out's are a necessity. unless you are the type of person that likes to do a conditioner-only wash in the middle of the week to refresh their curls

Try design essentials almond and avocado shampoo. It's great. I also want to remark that while it feels bad temporarily, it is very important to "strip the hair" to a certain degree so that you can remove build up. That is the only way you can get more water /moisture in effectively. Hair is most open to receiving moisture after shampoo. And besides that's what conditioner is for...to make it feel better again.

So I know silicones aren't bad, but the AllSoft has dimethicone, does that not affect the ability of the hair to absorb moisture in the conditioning step? Sorry if it's a silly question!
@AfopeAtoyebi2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not a silly question (we don’t do those around here 😭). The short answer is no. Moisture gets into your hair through water. Your hair absorbs A LOT of this during the wash day process in general. Re: conditioning, the point of conditioning isn’t actually to “moisturise” your hair. It’s to condition you hair. That involves non covalent bonding of surfactants onto the cuticle layer to make it softer, smoother, and more manageable. Many people describe this feeling as “moisturised hair” but doesn’t actually have anything to do with moisture absorption from the conditioner, and everything to do with adsorption of the conditioner ONTO the surface of the strands. Silicones do not interfere with the conditioner’s ability to do this. If anything it aids conditioning of the hair. Hope this helps 🤗

@@AfopeAtoyebi So can the same thing be said for conditioners or deep conditioners with silicones as well? I usually avoid them in my shampoos and conditioners just so I know for sure that that moisture has been penetrated into my hair strand and that my hair is truly clean and not blocked by silicone. I usually only use them in my stylers or leave ins just to be on the safe side. Lol I’m still unlearning the fear mongering around silicones from the natural hair community on YT from when I first went natural😬.

See? This is the question that needs answers. I, too, have avoided shampoos with silicones in them, especially the sulfate ones, because "How do you have what I'm trying to get rid of right in your formulation? What is the reason!?" Great video! Can you talk about the no oils no butters trend / method that is currently popular? Would you recommend it? (I'm low porosity & also live in the uk so it would be great to hear your opinion)
@jjayjae_2 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend looking at the product lists of the stylists that recommended this method. I currently follow this method, but I feel like it could be detrimental to attempt it without knowing what to use and why. Also one thing to note is that the no oils and butters refers to no raw oils and butters. Most products the stylists recommend have butters and oils in them already, so they recognize the importance of emollients in a well formulated product, but don’t feel as though adding raw oils and butters as a sealant on top of those products is necessary. They believe washing, conditioning, and styling with well formulated products that contain a good balance of conditioning agents, cationic surfactants, emollients, and humectants (especially film forming ones like aloe, etc.) is enough. This is why I recommend to check out their product lists, as some people are taking “no oils and butters” literally, while also being afraid of silicones while they try out this method and are being met with less than satisfactory results.
