Jeez his acting was incredible. Right at that last scene when he looked at the body and the back at Dexter with a tiny subtle nod was like he wanted to say "Good job" or be proud as a father but he just couldn't take it anymore. Dexter: Yep No part of the code had anything to do with dismemberment.. Harry hoped Dexter didn't remember that part of his trauma. Dexter was dismembering his victims because of the deeply rooted trauma he witnessed as a child.. Unbeknownst to him... Harry however, when he saw what Dexter had done. Understood fully of what he had created... The only thing keeping Dexter from killing just anyone.. Was Harry's influence and code of conduct as a man and police officer.. He was both Deb and Dexter's White Knight. But none of what Harry taught Dexter had anything to do with dismemberment.. That was all Dexter's twisted trauma coming to the surface.. And he liked it.. He was smiling, proud of what he'd done.. Killing, Harry had no issue with, he's a cop and probably has killed on the job. But cutting up people, that is some next level stuff right there. If you remember Dexter wasn't cutting up the dogs or animals he killed. When Harry found them, he never mentioned Dex had dismembered them. He simply killed them. It was humans he was cutting up... That is what shocked Harry into killing himself.

Tbf, Brian experienced what they would have done to Dexter all his life, and they let him go just to be way worse than Dexter ever was. I don't know if shit like this really gets fixed. Usually, these people just end up dead, in prison, or murderers on the run. I guess Dexter did end up on the run but at least he killed murderers who evaded justice rather than innocent people.

people give Harry a lot of shit for training Dexter up, the worst of it is when it's argued that "Dexter isn't really a psychopath and that Harry is the real villain for grooming him into being one" you all fail to realize Harry tried everything to AVOID that, Harry never wanted his son to be a serial killer, he never wanted to create a tool for his own sense of justice as many argue Dexter IS a psychopath, he killed small animals as a child, wanted to hurt bigger things, Harry took him to hunt small birds to control it, but he notices Dexter eyeing the 9mm and his subsequent questions and fascination about killing, he realizes it's not enough, so he steps up into big game animals, he even had Dexter get into med school so he could cut open dead bodies to satisfy his urges but it's not enough, , and it's ONLY then, in an act of total desperation and a fatherly sense of protection for his son that Harry concludes that Dexter WILL kill somebody, and to keep his son from the chair, he tries to channel it in a way that would keep him from the chair but this left Harry in a constant state of inner conflict, he's a cop, an upholder of justice, yet he's training his son to be a serial killer, the worst a criminal can be, but at the same time, it's helping the world, but it's still murder, and he's responsible for it, he manages to handle it fine UNTIL he sees his creation on full display, his work in it's rawest form, and he just can't live with himself anymore, the guilt of being responsible for a serial killer, an extremely effective and slippery one too, is too much of a burden to bear, and Harry tragically commits suicide is he a bad person? is he a good person? no, he's human.

If you join the military just to kill people they're gonna know, even if you fool them somehow there's a lot more to it than just killing people even if you're at a super elite level, and there's no guarantee you'll get to kill anyone on your own with no intervention from anyone else (military units are about cohesion and teamwork, not ritualistic killing). The first Reacher movie with Tom Cruise is about a soldier that joins the army for that exact purpose and predictably it goes bad, it's a great watch if you're interested.

Would Harry actually regret his teachings or would he only regret the monster that resulted from it?

It wasn't Dexter's responsibility.. but I do wonder that, if he had specified to his dad from the very beginning to not be a spectator, how much it might have changed things. Telling Harry that it was a bloody mess he probably would never be able to get over being done by his son. Harry was able to handle and appreciate his son's first kill without much fuss because it was more abstract but still real. Once it became vivid on top of real, it was just too much.. even if it had been the most evil son of a bitch to walk the planet. Dexter kills in front of Deb three times and the third time was probably going to be the limit on Deb's mental stability.

When I first saw this, I thought in very childish terms. I thought to myself: Is this the birth of a super hero or a super villain? And then later I realized how childish that was and I said: There are not super heroes or super villains. Sometimes, to some people in some situations Dexter was a hero, and to other people at other times in other situations, he was a villain. He was an angel to some and a devil to others. Like a tool, it just came down to how he was used and Harry tried to use him for what Harry defined as "good" but the writers were clever enough (at least in the early seasons) to deal with the many problems that could result from this situation. I just can't believe he would encourage his own son to be a killer I found some reasons why too Dexter's father, Harry Morgan, encouraged him to be a killer in an attempt to channel his inherent dark urges into a more controlled and specific direction. Here's a breakdown of his motivations: * Protection: Harry believed that Dexter was a sociopath with an inherent desire to kill. He saw this as a dangerous trait that could lead to harm if unchecked. * Guidance: Harry wanted to guide Dexter's impulses, teaching him a strict code of conduct that would allow him to kill only those he deemed truly deserving of it. This code was designed to prevent Dexter from harming innocent people. * Control: By teaching Dexter how to kill, Harry hoped to maintain a degree of control over his son's actions. He believed that if Dexter could be taught to channel his impulses in a specific way, it would be less likely for him to harm others indiscriminately. Essentially, Harry's actions were driven by a complex mix of fear, love, and a desire to protect both Dexter and society. However, his methods were controversial and ultimately led to a life of darkness and violence for his son.

Harry was a good father. He did what he could with what he had. Dexter probably would’ve turned out the same regardless. Nurture has a lot more influence than nature in most cases.

I don't know why but one of my favourite parts of this Show are the flashbacks and hallucinations for me Harry carries such an interesting energy with him i don't think that he's neither a villain nor a Hero just one of those characters that in a weird way stick to you..

Dexter life is an utter disaster. He wasn’t a lost case. With proper treatment, a loving family and not being told he’s a monster who can’t stop his urges, he would have turned out alright. But he is what he is, he cleans Miami of killers but also gets all his loved ones killed.
@nkk313
@nkk313 22 күн бұрын
You’re damn right he wasn’t a lost case, which is why he didn’t need to be locked up in a mental institution. You don’t understand what they put people through. Giving up on your kid is never the answer. Which is what happened to Brian and it did absolutely nothing, and he turned out far worse than Dexter. The morals Harry instilled in Dexter is what made him a better person.

In a way Harry did the best for Dexter. Dexter was screwed in the beginning by what happened to him. It’s not his fault that he got messed up. Harry turned him into a force for good and rightful vengeance. Idc what people say the law fails sometimes. And there has to be someone that has to make that right whether it’s outside the law or not.

My mom and I watched the first couple of seasons together Our pet theory is that Harry was living vicariously through Dexter. On some level, he wanted to be a vigilante killer, but he was afraid of the consequences. When he learned that Dexter had urges to kill, he decided to "let" Dexter live out his fantasy.

It’s so fucked up this guy didn’t get his son the psychiatric help he needed that would’ve helped him with his PTSD of watching his Mom get murdered in front of him and sit in her blood surrounded by her chopped up body parts for 2 days and his urges to see blood and chop someone up like his Mom because of it. Instead he let Dexter be crazy and TRAINED him how to kill people but only criminals. Dexter could’ve grown up to be a healthy and normal person if his Dad would’ve gotten him proper care at an early age when he saw signs of psychotic serial killer behavior.

WHAT I IMAGINE ABOUT DEXTER’S FATHER IF THE (DEXTER) SHOW GETS REMADE SOMEDAY: I imagine in the remake of (DEXTER) show, Dexter’s father HARRY, isn’t his adopted father, but instead he’s his biological father. I also imagine that Dexter is the secret love child, that Dexter’s father HARRY, had an affair with a woman, while he was protecting her. In addition I imagine that Dexter’s brother, Brian Moser, is his half brother, who is two years younger than him. I also imagine the tragedy that psychologically scared DEXTER, it happened to him when he was 4years old, and I imagine his half brother BRIAN was 2years old. I forgot to mention, I imagine that Dexter’s biological mother, she found love with a man, four months after giving birth to DEXTER, and later married him. I also imagine much later Dexter’s mother she later got pregnant by her husband, and then later Dexter’s half brother BRIAN was born. Now I imagine something unexpected happened, that resulted in putting the family in danger, and I imagine Dexter’s known father dies. While trying to protect him, his brother, and mother from dangerous individuals. In addition I imagine before Dexter’s mother dies, she got her cell phone out, tried a number of times, trying to get a hold of HARRY MORGAN, her ex-lover, to ask him for help. But sadly it didn’t get through on time, HARRY didn’t receive the messages until it was too late, and yet with the messages he managed to find the two little boys. I imagine one boy DEXTER, who is at age:4 at the time, HARRY decides to adopt him, and Dexter’s half brother, HARRY gives to friends. Now I imagine in the remake of the (DEXTER) show, Dexter’s adopted father HARRY, later reveals to Dexter that he’s his biological father, and he discovered this from a few messages he got from Dexter’s birth mother. I also imagine that in the remake, Dexter’s father HARRY, he doesn’t commit suicide, but instead he dies in a bomb blast, from a bomb that goes off.

Actually, studies show that the people who join and excel in the army are very high in conscientiousness. Someone like Dexter would have gone the way of Gomer Pyle in FMJ. He'd stick out, get punched down by the drill, refuse to bend & change, get his unit in trouble, they haze him. He kills and/or dies there.
