Tbf, Brian experienced what they would have done to Dexter all his life, and they let him go just to be way worse than Dexter ever was. I don't know if shit like this really gets fixed. Usually, these people just end up dead, in prison, or murderers on the run. I guess Dexter did end up on the run but at least he killed murderers who evaded justice rather than innocent people.

Dexter: Yep No part of the code had anything to do with dismemberment.. Harry hoped Dexter didn't remember that part of his trauma. Dexter was dismembering his victims because of the deeply rooted trauma he witnessed as a child.. Unbeknownst to him... Harry however, when he saw what Dexter had done. Understood fully of what he had created... The only thing keeping Dexter from killing just anyone.. Was Harry's influence and code of conduct as a man and police officer.. He was both Deb and Dexter's White Knight. But none of what Harry taught Dexter had anything to do with dismemberment.. That was all Dexter's twisted trauma coming to the surface.. And he liked it.. He was smiling, proud of what he'd done.. Killing, Harry had no issue with, he's a cop and probably has killed on the job. But cutting up people, that is some next level stuff right there. If you remember Dexter wasn't cutting up the dogs or animals he killed. When Harry found them, he never mentioned Dex had dismembered them. He simply killed them. It was humans he was cutting up... That is what shocked Harry into killing himself.

If you join the military just to kill people they're gonna know, even if you fool them somehow there's a lot more to it than just killing people even if you're at a super elite level, and there's no guarantee you'll get to kill anyone on your own with no intervention from anyone else (military units are about cohesion and teamwork, not ritualistic killing). The first Reacher movie with Tom Cruise is about a soldier that joins the army for that exact purpose and predictably it goes bad, it's a great watch if you're interested.

He probably thought he was training an assassin, not the monster, as people said he also probably wasn't expecting to see the dismemberment.

He did create the monster that was Dexter Morgan but he did not know enough of Dexter’s emotions after killing to tell him to not relish or savor the killing. I feel like Dexter’s pride in killing and showing it to his father is what did both of them in. He did though. In Season 8 It was revealed that Dexter was taken to a Psychologist and that his symptoms started to show during his early adolescent years even before the flashback of him killing the neighbors dog. Moreover it was the psychologist who helped come up with the baseline foundations of the Code that Harry used to help Dex harness his symptomatic behaviors. Harry in more ways than one did his absolute best to help Dex and it paid off till the end. It kept him out of prison, like Harry wanted . All the percieved sessions of therapy and help you think wouldv've helped would only prolong the inevitable to the point that Dexter would've made a careless mistake and landed himself in prison or worse.

I just can't believe he would encourage his own son to be a killer I found some reasons why too Dexter's father, Harry Morgan, encouraged him to be a killer in an attempt to channel his inherent dark urges into a more controlled and specific direction. Here's a breakdown of his motivations: * Protection: Harry believed that Dexter was a sociopath with an inherent desire to kill. He saw this as a dangerous trait that could lead to harm if unchecked. * Guidance: Harry wanted to guide Dexter's impulses, teaching him a strict code of conduct that would allow him to kill only those he deemed truly deserving of it. This code was designed to prevent Dexter from harming innocent people. * Control: By teaching Dexter how to kill, Harry hoped to maintain a degree of control over his son's actions. He believed that if Dexter could be taught to channel his impulses in a specific way, it would be less likely for him to harm others indiscriminately. Essentially, Harry's actions were driven by a complex mix of fear, love, and a desire to protect both Dexter and society. However, his methods were controversial and ultimately led to a life of darkness and violence for his son.

When I first saw this, I thought in very childish terms. I thought to myself: Is this the birth of a super hero or a super villain? And then later I realized how childish that was and I said: There are not super heroes or super villains. Sometimes, to some people in some situations Dexter was a hero, and to other people at other times in other situations, he was a villain. He was an angel to some and a devil to others. Like a tool, it just came down to how he was used and Harry tried to use him for what Harry defined as "good" but the writers were clever enough (at least in the early seasons) to deal with the many problems that could result from this situation. It's like Dexter was the gun in Harry's hand. Man, what a great show!
