Mad respect for putting this all together, and I’m glad your channel is getting more and more exposure with every video. I think in the future brackets, you should make it clear from the start that your ranking is based purely on rapping ability and lyricism. For many people, this is not what they use to define a great rapper across the board, and that’s definitely why artists like Juice Wrld or Lil Durk progressed farther than some really talented battle rappers. To some extent, I kind of agree with this. Battle rap at its best is an incredible feat of lyricism, and I’m so glad you’re using this bracket to highlight the talented MCs that run in those circles. However, I feel like you’ve got to understand that unless you make the disclaimer that this ranking is purely on rapping ability, and not overall artistic persona/impact, people are going to choose artists with more of a catalog. Many battle rappers fall short when they actually get to recording an album, and I think that diminishing what Juice Wrld or Don Toliver does to just “harmonizing over good production” isn’t fair. They have a vision for their music and execute it effectively, something that even the most lyrical MC’s aren’t always able to do on their albums. I’m not at all saying Juice Wrld is a better lyricist than any of the battle rappers on this list, I’m just saying I think there’s validity to people choosing someone like him unless the ranking is strictly on lyricism. All in all, great video, and can’t wait to see the rest of the results. Your channel has consistently put me onto to underrated MCs and im v thankful for that ✌️
@lethalassassin17542 жыл бұрын
I agree with all you said however…what about the elites that have it all? Wouldn’t that push them ahead of a lot of other MCs? The guys that could or can freestyle off the dome, battle, make great albums and songs

I mean, you can't compare a lot of these artists cuz their style is completely different. You see rap as something based around battle rap and purely lyricism. But that's not the only thing about rap, rap Is music. Music needs to sound good. You can be a great lyricist but if you don't sound good I'm not gonna listen to you. For example Aesop rock is my favorite rapper, he's an incredible lyricist but he actually sounds good too.

So, just like I said in this video, you would automatically disqualify battle rappers & freestyle MCs with your approach. I didn't just have battle rap as a metric, but I tried to make it fair for every MC. Doesn't matter anyway, you guys eliminated every battle rapper in the first round, at the end of the day it's you guys voting for it, not me. I just share my thoughts on it.

"Dre most likely can't outrap Crook on a record", now that's an understatement. He could have all the writers in the world and he couldn't beat Crook. Technically Crook is up there with EM and Royce, which they both attest to. One thing was people voting sleeping on Crook, but HHU himself, damn. At least it seems like you do, not only by understating the whole Crook vs Dre rap-wise, but also fact that you did not add much about Crook, unlike what you said about a lot of other rappers to show their skill-level. I am going to assume you felt like you did not need to say anything, but a lot of people sleep on him so I wish more people like you and reactors would big-up this amazing lyricist, educate the people. If you're not convinced, I could let you know Crooks technical level, and his career, which is nothing short of amazing. Made his first song at 8 years old, still pushing the pen at this point in his career (45 years old) working on his last album and still not sacrificing his lyricism for popularity. He features on EM's album and still not recognized like that. He grew up in the LBC around gang culture and made gangsta music from an authentic stand-point as he lived it, he has also been very conscious in his raps about all sides of that life and aims to educate about the conditions of black people, politics, and Hip-hop culture which he truly loves. He was part of The Death Row Dynasty, legendary group Slaughterhouse, Shady Records, was offered a deal at Aftermath. Started the Hip-Hop Weekly series via the internet, pre-streaming, where he released one song every week for an entire year. He was the first artist in history to do such a series. Other artists would later follow this blueprint. Eminem and Royce consider him a threat, one of the most deadly technical MC's, and if you heard his shit you would not disagree it's just facts, the pen-game speaks for itself. People sleepin' on this guy is my biggest Hip-hop pet-peeve. Now get to work on that catalogue.

Regarding Juice WRLD v Danny Myers. First i wanna say i appreciate ur opinion and taste in music but iu have to consider that the rap game has evolved so nowadays sound, flow and hitmaking ability should be put in that category too. The little rap videos that u cut in during the battle was in that case not equal ,bc u cant compare a pure freestyle with a battlerapper with 'prepared' lines. Its ok if u didnt really appreciate todays music bc music taste is objective. Still u should respect those results bc your viewers have a good variety of taste that could lead to a pretty realistic overall result @Hip-Hop Universe

Hitmaking ability? Nah man, this isn't about musician standards or hit songs, this is about being the best rapper, you look at rap ability for that Overarching categories can be put into 4 at least: Lyricism, Flow, Rhyme, Delivery, which cover all the basics When you ask who's the greatest singer, you don't get answers like Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Billie Ellish etc. just cos they make nice music. You get names like Adele, David Bowie, Adam Lambert, Florence Welch, Katy B etc. Known for their singing talent, not discography Same should go for rap, Juice has flow and delivery sure but his lyricism and rhyme isn't that great, mediocre even. If you allow hitmaking ability to have such a precident, then Drake is the best, which anyone with more than a casual ear can understand that isn't the case
@MrFraetz3 жыл бұрын
@@sultan788 The Problem is the general question. Everyone interpret the question differently. While i agree with the categories you listed, My opinion is that rap has evolved so much into what it is now (creativeness, mumble and sing rap) that you can't just dismiss these skills. These Rappers i.e. Kodak Black would be like the worst rapper in the 90s (rap was differently) while big pun would be just like fat joe is not a good rapper therefore wouldnt be recognized as toptier nowadays (with my additional categories) I'm sure it's the different generations who are so opposite minded for rap (i'm 23) and have listened to much rapmusic/albums that i understand what changed in the rapgame. And unfortunately there is no right answer for that question. While i think old school rap and these different generations of rap shouldnt be forgotten because they pioneered the music that i nowadays like to listen. I will tell my kids that drake is the goat and the best rapper is either j cole or kendrick. If so says biggie best rapper, i respect that. But will Support the music i can feel and really like. P. S. That's why i like this channel. It gives me music/rappers i usually dont listen to and i like that :)

Battle rappers should have a list of their own honestly it’s unfair for them to go head to head with MCs that have multiple EPs & albums. This list should only be rappers with discographies at the very least.

Slug is my personal favorite rapper. And hes not a top 10 best rapper ever. Probably not top 50, maybe top 100. But to go out so soon to some random dude who isn’t even relevant on the same level? Slug put the Midwest on the map in the rap game, he’s one of the godfathers of emo rap, hes a proper battle rapper and freestyler, and even has his own label that he helped found and put on dozens of original rappers. Not to mention a pretty solid catalog. Yall did him dirty

I love rap and hip hop my favorite genre of music that always love and grew up to and I love rock n roll to and a little rnb music to but this is exactly why I love hip hop universe even tho I already seen all the hip hop universe bracket tournament videos already last year this was all great tournament videos and I love watching alot of hip hop universe videos i seen all of his videos that has been putting out and I like how he states his own opinion in the videos and also speak about the with but I do agree with everything he's says about the rappers and I agree about what he says about them having lyricism or not having lyricism and cadences and flows and voice and technique and style and mindset great videos keep doing what your doing hip hop universe.

You do know that 50 cent wrote a whole ass album for LL Cool J that was supposed to come out in the late 2000s right ? Listen to Heartbeat for example and you'll see. How can someone be considered better than the dude that's writing his music ? Too much 50 disrespect, just because some rappers can rap better than other does not mean they are better. 2pac is one of the if not the best and he is nowhere near other rappers when it comes to lyrics and skill. In other words, here in Europe where I'm from and 99% of the world 50 Cent is top 5 and even top 3. I do not understand how he gets so disrespected in America but for the rest of the world he has so many hits that other rappers do not even come close.
@HipHopUniverse3 жыл бұрын
That's why I said "As long as we're not comparing 21st century LL to 50 in his prime". LL fell off in the 2000s.
@Andy_777993 жыл бұрын
I have 50 cent in my top 10 but i dont consider him being THAT good, there are at least 50 rappers better than him, i just like his music a lot ,thats why i put him in top 10 ,but when it comes to lyrical skills or other stats, he is still great, but nowhere close around the best.
