Alice, This is my favorite category of skincare ☺️. Recently I’ve loved applying liquid products using dropper bottles so that I can put the drops exactly where I want them and then spread it around with my fingers. It’s easier to avoid the eyes when needed and easier for viscous liquids that can’t be sprayed. I find this more pleasant than putting the liquid in the palm of my hand and doing the full palm press-press. Not sure why. 🤔 My palms are just as clean as my fingers but for some reason, they don’t feel like it in the moment 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. I find that I use only a few drops of the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA per day, otherwise my skin feels too tacky after applying it. So it tends to last me forever and therefore doesn’t seem very expensive. If I forego it, I start to get closed comedones and blackheads, so it’s the one product I’ll never be without. 🏆 P.S. I do quite like your advent calendar background 😊

Hi Alice. The Isntree Green Tea Toner you got from the Stylevana Advent Calendar is a must try. I use it to calm down acne and for anti-aging. Missha makes a really good toner with ascorbic acid in their Vita C line, and recently ive really enjoyed the Detoskin Rosehip Peel & Moisture toner pads, really find them great for gentle exfoliation if i feel like doing it in the daytime because they have gluconolactone (they also have salicylic acid but its the second to last ingredient, so i would think its functioning as a preservative at that level as opposed to an exfoliant)
@AliceintheRabbitHole2 жыл бұрын
I want to buy from Missha so badly, but I end up talking myself out of it due to feeling overwhelmed by the options 😆 Someday I need to compile a list of their best products-if that’s a high L-AA toner it might be exactly what I’m looking for!

An esty I follow never uses cotton pads for her toners. She's a continuous fine mist spray bottle person or nano facial mister person and she also in some cases depending on the type of active, will recommend applying the toner first. I would like to find a nice hydrating toner for my sometimes dry skin that doesn't cost a fortune or smell like a bouquet and preferably, could go pick up at a brick and mortar. The Physician's Formula ones looks nice but I think I'd have preferred without the ascorbic acid and some comments complain about the spray/mister not functioning but maybe it could be transferred to another bottle.
@AliceintheRabbitHole2 жыл бұрын
I can answer your question on that: not easily unfortunately. You can spray it into another bottle...aka the very tedious way. But unfortunately it does not open 🙁 Definitely good to know about the sprayer - I might go ahead and preemptively transfer it as I do adore the formula. Thanks for sharing that!! I feel like physicians formula has SO MUCH potential in their skincare products - but there's often a tiny detail that keeps them from being among my absolute favs. Check out the ingredients on their gold line: it's fantastic. @AliceintheRabbitHole2 жыл бұрын
Which ones have you tried? I do feel like they all work so differently - it makes it a category that is ALL over the place!
@Criticalbeauty4112 жыл бұрын
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I started out with finishing sprays that I heard were nondrying like Mac fix and the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray. I wasn’t surprised that those and other setting sprays were drying so I moved on to hydrating non-setting mists like the one by Algenist and the coconut based one by ELF. I think I tried one by pixie as well. My bathroom is under construction so I can’t go look I’m sure I’ve tried more though! I always feel hydrated at first and then drier 10 minutes later. What tends to happen with me is I get a super hydrated base going but then I have to set some areas of my face to reduce the texture. Later in the day I always want to add hydration but I can’t seem to do that well even on days where I don’t use any powder at all. I would love to find something that adds hydration without it just being straight up oil or something that temporarily helps but then evaporates and makes things worse. Saying all of that I’m not sure that even exists 😆 i’m sure there are some that are better than the ones I’ve tried though!
@Criticalbeauty4112 жыл бұрын
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I guess those are all finishing spray type mists anything before that I feel is like a toner IMO For example I have the haruharu bamboo mist but in my head I categorize that as a type of toner. I’ve even put toners in spray bottles so maybe that’s why my brain just puts everything before sunscreen in that category. It makes it more complicated I guess when you really break it down into what mists there actually are!
@das_ein2 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to disagree on the Indie Lee though, only because of the medium-strength scent. The fragrance smells like regular bar soap to me and since it slightly bubbles when you shake the bottle, I can’t get away from the association that I’m spraying soap with a high pH on my skin (and therefore wrecking my skin barrier). Weird I know. Scent can ruin things psychologically!

I'm never without the Klairs toner, it is so flexible. Ok, even as a lawyer that L'Oreal advertising pisses me off. I'd be ok if they said 99% Alcohol Free on the front, but an asterisk that requires you to flip to the back only to find out its not at all alcohol free still strikes me as false advertising. The placement on the ingredients list also establishes that nothing other than Water and Glycerin are included at levels higher than 1%. As for the rest of the reviews, my initial reaction was "wow.... we use very different types of toners" and then I thought about it and figure a lot of what I use as toners probably belong in the essence and essence/toner category. I like the I'm From Rice toner and the HaruHaru, but since I use the P&L glass serum (and have way too much of it due to an accidental double order) I mostly avoid HA focused toners unless they have significant other benefits like ceramides (might give the Mocchi a shot once I run low). I have the CosRx propolis toner as well from a CosRx bundle but haven't tried it yet. All other non-basic "toners" I use are antioxidant heavy toners. I'll use AHA/BHA toners and toners with actives I receive as part of boxes on the body just to use them up, but I don't want to mess with the rest of my routine. I also get the impression I'm saving a ton of money by not using pads seeing how much they soak up. As far as other categories, I firmly believe you should do what you want with your series, but to the extent feedback is helpful I'd love to hear your feedback on the following: 1) Eye Serum/Active Eye Creams: To date I've found the most success in going with a k-beauty ceramide/peptide heavy cream/gel and supplementing actives with an eye serum, so I'd be interested in eye serums you feel add a lot of value in the actives (vitamin c, retinol, or something else unique) or eye creams with similar effects. 2) Hydrating Wash Off Masks: I really enjoy the I'm From honey and mugwort masks, but I'm still experimenting with less expensive hydrating and possibly calming wash off masks that could be used on a daily basis and are a bit less moisturizing/nourishing than the honey mask. Based on your feedback in previous videos I'm not sure if this will really be your thing since I know you look for more potency in wash off masks and I believe have suggested sheet masks for hydration (which is probably the best option, I just don't like sheet masks). 3) Supplemental Serums: I tend to place serums in one of two categories, heavy actives and supplementary. I generally won't use more than one heavy active serum (usually vitamin C or retinol though I'd count exfoliating as well) in a routine, but I enjoy using 1-2 other serums that boost skin health without adding a strain. Examples of this in my mind are barrier care serums, some of the k-beauty snail serums, and possibly something as potent as the Clarin's Double Serum that uses alternative ingredients.
@AliceintheRabbitHole2 жыл бұрын
Yup, the L’Oreal toner is phenomenally disappointing to me. I grabbed it while I was in a CVS because I couldn’t get over how much the skincare community these days would clearly see through the nonsense - but it’s actually interesting what happened after. I looked up reviews and found makeupalley had quite a few (which was popular 5-10ish years ago for makeup and skincare reviews). I was shocked by how many people there called it a holy grail! IMO, it shows how far we have come in understanding what we want in our skincare products and how ingredients impact results. We think alike with the serums category! Suffice to say: that will be a significant portion of this series (if not it’s own mini series, still deciding there)
@masonjeq42612 жыл бұрын
@@AliceintheRabbitHole See.... I don't know how to feel about the holy grails thing. I only got into skincare about 2 years ago, but as I understand it a lot of people weren't using toners and even with mostly glycerin I could see a hydrating toner doing something. Also the denatured alcohol at 1% feels like it wouldn't dehydrate the skin with presumably that much glycerin/water. That said, I could see it actually helping some other products penetrate the skin possibly enhancing a basic skincare routine. I actually avoid denatured alcohol in products not because I think its the worst thing to formulate with, but because I'm concerned it will mess with the effectiveness of the rest of my routine making it harder to manage.
