Just to let you also know, for the 26:01 there is no need for smoothing if you just change the height and size of the mountains etc by their brush settings instead of scaling them in the editor. I just discovered that while I was playing with it. If you change height and size in the blueprint settings, it does not step and everything is smooth already.

Good one! I didn't know that. I'm so used to scaling them by the handles lol.

@@officialpaperplanesgame It's damn good that you made these guides as the ones on the official Discord are either really poor quality (and out of date) or none existent. Of course, I am now using your most recent guide for initial set up, as the tool has changed some, but this one is still very, very useful for the overall map creation tutorial.

This looks good for something I'm trying to do, but how does Oceanology treat the inside of vessels? One of the issues I see often is waves clipping through the boat, especially below deck and that's something I'm trying to avoid.
@officialpaperplanesgame
@officialpaperplanesgame 9 ай бұрын
Oceanology does have a really good mask feature. I forgot to show that one in the overview video. Was running a bit long but, there is an included map that has that feature set up and shows how it works.

looks very nice. I was watching a doc on how Sea Of Thieves done there water. lots of math and very complicated stuff. fascinating seeing realistic water in a game engine is still so mesmerizing :) Kind of wish Epic would work on the UE5 base water plugin. its nice but real bland. and alot of the options are just straight up disabled.
@officialpaperplanesgame

I agree with you 100% The water in sea of thieves is among the best I'd ever seen. And the options on the market place are getting better and better!

I do like the Brushify stuf BUT was not happy when he said making a couple layers height adjustable for seabeds/beach's was to costly and never helped me or would not make a couple of optional layer functions that people could add if the chose. I neded that help because I'm not great with code BTW have you looked at Errant Proton's Errant landscapes tools
@officialpaperplanesgame
@officialpaperplanesgame 9 ай бұрын
I have not used Errant tools yet but I have seen then. Very nice. As far as brushify. I tend to add the functionality I need for custom setups as I have made many auto materials myself. I just find this faster. I can make a video on adding new landscape texture layers later down the road if that is something you'd like to see. And we can get a few more people needing that. As it is a process. Not to difficult, just a lot of steps.

@@officialpaperplanesgame That would be very nice thank you so much, as an older geezzer that doesn't code to well, most of what I do I copy, I did make some new functions from brushfy to and replacement textures from Megascans, I made a copy of the mud functions to do a seabed sand with height but had no idea how to create a height slider

Thank you. Yes, I will go through the RVT's in the next video. We will get them set up and working in brushify. That will also work for any RVT landscape as they are all the same procedure. You can also check brushify boot camp on youtube. He is the dev of brushify and he has videos on doing rvt's as well. www.youtube.com/@HavokSage

now im having problems with frame freezing somtimes and getting 5fps. i noticed when you tested the horizon map you also had the same issue. i have a 3090ti and im testing an island i made in gaea and every time i add the water i get huge performance issues. is there any way to optimize this or some fix. i did turn lumen off and the virtual shadow maps and the issues still persisted the same. it strange, my test with my island has no foliage or textures and it has poor performance but then i load the horizon map in and i do not lose any frames or freeze. i am so lost. it seems like the demo is optimized better cause when i try making my own open world with world partition i just lag. i have to delete the demo landscapes and add my own in just to get it working fine. sorry for messaging you again but im just kinda new to unreal engine.

I would have to see your gaea map. What is resolution for the gaea map? If you have oceanology and are in the discord my Tag is PaperPlane. Send me a #message in the oceanology general chat. And I can set a time to do a live chat to see what you have going on. Or you can send me a few images on the issue.

im having an issue with a 3rd person game mode working with this map. for some reason i cant actually walk around the island and when i spawn it just puts me in the air and i cant move even though i only have one player start and its on the island. If i play as standalone game it spawn me in the correct area on the island but then i cant move or see my character in 3rd person. and if i hit play from here on the island it still puts me in the sky.
@officialpaperplanesgame
@officialpaperplanesgame 9 ай бұрын
Hmmm. I don't have a player start set up. If you are using the play button. Could be an issue. If you added a player start from the quick start menu. To the landscape. Might be the issue. I usually just right click on the terrain where I want to spawn my char and select play from here.
@officialpaperplanesgame
@officialpaperplanesgame 9 ай бұрын
Another option is the game mode is not set properly in the world settings game mode overide option. So you will need a game mode, a character and a character controller to play on the map. I add the oceanology character game mode to the game options in the video. That should work.

Hi, the video is great but - weirdly I can't save it to any playlist, even the Watch later or private ones. Is that intentional or accidental?

Nevermind, I accidentally resized the browser and the save button reappeared. Weird. I tested with other videos and had no similar issues. Maybe it's the aspect ratio or quality?

It is most likely the aspect ratio. I use my main monitor to work on as it is what I'm used to and it's ultra wide. I will start increasing the font size for all. But, I will mostly use the big monitor :)
