Great stuff! Thanks for making these and I look forward to the series, I am not an artist but a programmer and to be able to rapidly prototype and design levels is what I’m primarily looking for. If I can just move straight into production levels from there with this then I’m sold! I own World Creator too, and while it is rather powerful, the fact that you can’t work in unreal engine with it is a bit of a pain. Much more fiddling around. Whereas this appears to take advantage of unreal’s tooling while also adding quite convenient and useful functionality such as the auto landscape material, biomes, pathing, and dynamic stamping. The price is right, too!

I have not planed that atm. But I would love to do a series just going through all the Hyper stuff. As it is a huge undertaking. There's so much to go through with Hyper.... Lol. I may go through that after we get the landscape set up. I will have a chat with the devs at Hyper here shortly as they are on my games discord. Also, will see if I can get some in depth explanations to some systems I'm not familiar with, to give a better presentation as well.

You can swap all animations in the animation component. These are just placeholders and simplified animations.

You can also use a free Alternative to UDS that can be found in the Place Actor Menu "BP Sky Sphere" . Lots of features! (but like most free things...needs some work to make it right for you) But I do also prefer UDS

If you can convert to 8 or 16 bit png, you can use it. You can use any png hight maps. You are nor stuck with the brush catalog that comes with errant. You can also use the erosion and foliage maps made with gaea as landscape material weight masks.

@@dvogiatzis the upcoming video will show the power of using errant landscape. Just the shear volume of brushes you can use and mix together to make somthing very realistic in itself is a huge win, withought killing your performance. Then the ability to directly add the weight maps for all your materials per brush is 2nd to none. On top of that biomes directly use the landscape weights and mask to finish off the scene for foliage. Not to mention paths that can interact with the foliage and the landscape brush to add in roads, paths, bridges and a number of other assets that work with the landscape to deform and mask out foliage. With upcoming runtime usability that is voxel like.

Haven't had the time to watch the entire video yet, but wondering if it's possible to spawn tree actors (farmable trees) instead of just folliage type trees?

It is possible to spawn bp's how ever I usually use the foliage system from the marketplace and change the instance type to the foliage component to replace hit foliage instances with bp's. Much cheaper.

Little More involved then that but you can use masks to set the hight for a specific hight. I will play with that a little more after the weekend and get back to you.

do you know if digging or editing in runtime is available with current version. I saw video you can use shovel and dig in ground, but i can't seem to find and doc on there site I really like this better then voxel pro, but before i spend 250+ i want to do more research. TY for any help

@@officialpaperplanesgame In the teaser video they mention mid/late July for the update. I'm really wanted to wait for it to try 30 day free trial to see if it fit my needs for game im working on. I really want all 3, i wanted to know how long will your discount be available? i don't want to wait for this update and miss out saving money. Also i thought part 2 of this video was going to be sunday at 6:30, i go to the playlist and it still only has this video, but shows 1 hidden :(

Quick question. I am working on a game that has few smaller landscapes on the same level. It is not one huge landscape. I did this because they are far apart. I set the Oceanology RVT on one of the landscapes? How do I go about setting it for the others? Coz when i try on the second foam gets all messed up.

Not sure if you can with the manager for oceanology but, I am not sure. Have you thought about level streaming or just one large landscape with only the areas you need protruding out of the water?

@@officialpaperplanesgame Meh I tried with sublevel streaming and it is a mess. The water sometimes will freeze and it will disappear. Coz you need to use Infinite Ocean in each sublevel because for each landscape it can take only 1 RVT map. My idea was to use smaller landscapes coz they are way apart.. did not want to make a huge landscape. Event the biggest one ain't so big for me ( sailing game ). I tried the open world map. Maybe a huge level but with level pattrition it can be manageable but it seems for the bounds of the RVT it selects only 1 piece of the landscape o.O one Landscape Streaming Proxy. Well thank you anyway for giving few ideas :D If you have some free time sometimes you can make a video with Oceanology and WP on a big map and see how it goes. Anyway you still working on the survival game? Coz I saw the paper plane teaser. Or you doing 2 projects at once?

@@borisaceski6401 Yeah I think Big landscape is the best way to go. Just leave the underwater with not many assets it shouldn't be bad performance wise.

@@officialpaperplanesgame Anyway have you ever run in to a problem with Oceanology when the RVT_Heightmap disapears after you reopen the level? Seems maybe this is on my end coz this happens on every map. Maybe needs fresh install -.- god damn it

Did you test Errant to see it works? I remember when I brought it the libraries had to be in the root content of the stamps wouldn't show and things didn't work

Thanks for the detailed tutorial. btw I came across a method that doesn't need the origins moved (like the turret): parent everything to an empty in Blender, and import as an FBX scene (creates a BP). The only drawback I found was that the BP is invisible when you drag it into the level. It fixes itself as soon as you hit the play button though.

​@@officialpaperplanesgame I was trying to figure out a good Blender to Unreal workflow for a tank. There's some jank with it. I found that I had to set the empty (scene) to movable, and then move all the components to the DefaultSceneRoot. Otherwise, the camera was 100 scale. I also had to switch the Class type since it was set to scene. But I do like the fact that I don't have to move stuff back and forth in Blender, and it's already assembled on import into Unreal.

I haven’t gotten access to the documentation yet, does anyone know what I need to do after placing the oceanology manager and the ocean itself? It’s working but RVT isn’t capturing a height map so it’s giving me an invalid draw scale error upon map check.

Hey man have you found a good method for masking out the infinite ocean? I’ve got a landscape with a coast then it dips down lower than the shore in some places inland and I don’t want water all the way out there. Any way to mask?

It does have a mask eating in the rvt, but you have to set the mask to 1. There are 2 mask peramaeters in masking. Then you can use the mask setting in the rvt tab to control how much. I will have some new videos in 5.4 coming out next week starting Sunday night.

Hi, could you continue with your Oceanology series? You hadn't yet said how to fix the lag when loading the landscape. and I would be very happy if you could continue with Oceanology and brushify / UDS I would think it would be really great if you showed more about the proper integration of brushify and UDS in Oceanology. Hi, good tut.. I setup per the video using Brushify, but when you said the landscape could go black, mine did. Not sure I missed anything (MI_Landscape_4081) - would nanite actors cause this?

No, it will go black until you add the shared layer info. After adding the material to the level. Go to the top left and change from selection mode to landscape mode. Then go the the paint tab. At the bottom you will see a list of your textures. To the right of each material there's a little plus icon. Click that to add a shared layer ifno file. All should be weighted except the last one in the list (Remove procedural) should be set to non-weighted blend to work. Hope that helps you out! In the game I make, there is a subterranean level below sea level in the continental area. The sea of this plug-in is placed entirely on the map, so areas below sea level are submerged. Is there any video of a solution to this?

After watching the video, the problem was solved by dividing the sea by area and setting it up using the Oceanology Lake class. However, when the waves are set differently by Gerstner wave figures because they want to divide the area with strong waves and the sea area with weak waves, or want to divide the area with different direction waves. Is there any other way to compensate for the difference in the gap in the problem of the gap?

There is a mask for the underwater post process volumes. You can find them in the example Maps. I haven't set it up yet so I don't know exactly how to do that. There are a lot of people on the oceanology discord that have though.

Quick question. How would I stop the character for going very deep when I jump off something into the ocean...it sinks way too deep. Same with friction? And does friction also change the boat bouoancy as well?

You can reduce the foam in the folding tab. Unless you use a preset. That will override all setting in the tabs.

You might want to maybe add a dot or something in the middle of the screen for paper planes to help with Motion sickness even just watching the clips you have here make me crazy motion sick also glad your better dude also do errant have any plans to do procedure generation maps being able to generate a random open world from a seed.m would be cool

11:06 You might want to keep Errant Landscape Layer on top as putting anything above it will cause bugs. also weight blended paint layers are also known to cause bugs.

Ah damn, it looks like RVTs do not work with nanite :( I created a new map with just Brushify and Oceanology. Enabled nanite (as per the official Brushify video on this), then implemented RVTs, then after enabling virtual textures in the project settings, the textures on the mountains in the distance were covered in holes. Tons upon tons of holes. The landscape nearby was perfectly fine. This was not the case with my actual game's project. After doing the above in the game's project, the entire landscape had holes, and going in game the landscape texture became transparent. In the new project, it's only the distant textures that are covered in holes. It's like very other quad is a hole.

They update Oceanology very often, it seems! And with significant changes each time. I must admit, I came very close to refunding just 2 days after buying, but your guides prevented the need to do that. Oceanology and Riverology official guides are pretty bad (mega understatement). Beyond excellent tools, uber shite guides. If they were as skilled at documentation as they are at development, their guides would be top notch. You have made their tools actually worth buying. IDEA: Up to date video (or series) on putting together a map that includes (Oceanology) ocean, (Oceanology and/or Riverology) lakes, and (Riverology) rivers, plus the other plugins you use (Brushify, Ultra Dynamic Sky, etc.). Of course, this might already exist and I am just being blind, lol

For sure. And thanks. Yes I do want to do another update pretty soon. Kinda waiting for a slow down on updates atm as they have significant changes so it's hard to keep up. I have been a little slow on video updates atm. I have a team working round the clock on my games that are coming up soon. And next week I have surgery. So I will try to get a few videos out before then because I may be unavailable for a few weeks afterwards.
