Great info as always... I've had a Quest 2 since early this year after a recommendation from Cas at that time. Happy with it, and it hasn't missed a beat. Did upgrade the strap since the original is only average. Hopefully they will get it right with the Quest 3 and it won't need any upgrades. Overall this 65yo pensioner is happy with the Quest 2, and will check out the 3 when it comes out.

@@ethancbaker2002 depends on your setup and what you're playing. If you have direct LOS to a beefy router and you're playing slow-paced games, AirLink can be serviceable. If you're playing fast-paced games like shooters or beat saber, direct is the only way to go.

Vive pro2 fits the niche of wireless with full body tracking, esp if you combine it with index controllers or vr gloves. Using wigig gives it the best latency and you don't have to worry about interference from wifi. This is the best setup for dance and mocap animation. But dialing in that visual sweet spot is tricky. Harder than other headsets. The drivers used to be flaky, but seems stable this last year.

My fiance and I seem to be in the minority in our dissatisfaction with the quest pro controllers. The straps are a total joke and functionally useless, and the controllers themselves are simultaneously super small as well as surprisingly heavy. The tracking is a marginal improvement over the stock quest 2 controllers, but it's still far from perfect and we both experienced random drifting or lag events. Ultimately it was not worth the sky high price and I returned them.

Got pico 4 after owning quest 2 for the last year. I was super hyped at first but...: - weird glare / reflection going on, for instance if you are in space and there is a sun, you will see its glare/ reflection in black space. And that was a dealbreaker for me. - pass-through is color, yes, but in 2D! Very disappointing. I was happy to put back on my quest 2 and deal with god rays of fresnel lenses and black and white pass-through which is 3D and actually usable. That's why I ended up ordering quest pro...

Index with an i9 13900k and 4090 is definitely the best as you can crank the steam SS to get way better resolution and with the wireless adapter for un compressed data transfer , itll be game over for all other headsets as far as serious vr enthusiasts go.I'll report back tho to update when my varjo aero arrives......any day now.

@@blablasigh187 never ever would have thought vr could look this good. Comparing the aero to the index is like comparing ps5 to ps2. Everyone was complaining about Aeros audio solution and I'd agree before swapping out the little rubber pieces on the earbuds for ones with a smaller hole and now the audio is far better than the index solution. I'm running games at a resolution of roughly on average of 5000x4000 per eye @ a ppd of 35 and it's insane.....super clear....only thing I'd complain about is that there is no reproduction/motion smoothing so if your not hitting the 90hz min then you'll notice right quick however with dialing the graphic settings it's easy to work out

I have hp g2 and pico3 link,pico4,htcv pro2.I keep my pico3 and pico 4 the other two I am selling.Have a mid range comp I would choose pico 3 link,has much bigger sweetspot than hp and works smoother and better tracking . If you have nvidia 4090 then I would go for pico4 with virtual desktop.

I think the best route for vr would be sticking to an ecosystem, like android, have tons of companies making headsets but all working with the same os, where we are at righnt now that would be the meta ecosystem of apps and games.

I disagree. Trying to lock people into an ecosystem is antithetical to the principles of the open source developers that have greatly contributed to the current state of VR. It's just going to give people less freedom to choose the headset which best suits their needs. Meta has been especially problematic in this regard as the weaker hardware forces developers to compromise on the fidelity of their games. It also provides little to no higher end options for advanced users that do not want to use mobile processors.

Misconception regarding Quest Pro resolution. As it uses two panels vs a single panel on the Quest 2, the lens stack moves with the panels. This gives you MORE visible pixels, resulting in a higher pixel per degree, and higher overall resolution to what you would see with the Quest 2. Price - It does cost a bit, but when you put it in perspective, it's priced about right; G2 Omnicept £1250, Varjo Aero ~£3000 (Including base stations, controllers, headphones, Import tax) HTC Focus 3 £1300 HTC Vive Pro 2 Kit £1300 Valve Index Kit £919 Most of the above are not standalone, and some don't have eye tracking and all the other sensors like the Quest Pro has. Quest Pro for PCVR is on another level with its insane clarity. I have some though the lens videos on my channel, and I'm blown away by it.

My issue is I want lossless video from SteamVR from the Quest Pro. However, it is my understanding that the PC VR link is still compressed, rather than something like a display port connection. I'm in the market and am currently eyeing the Varjo Aero.

@@tgpips1128 , how's the tracking? I do room scale and currently have the Index, so I already have the controllers and base stations. The base station tracking in my experience has been the best solution. Previous camera based tracking methods I tried would lose tracking too easily for controllers out of headset view. The pro I think is supposed to have camera tracking built into the controllers. In theory that should work flawlessly. The other nagging thing was the battery. I have zero need for wireless, so if the pro can only be powered by battery, then the battery is just an inconvenience. I've watched your videos already actually. They're good quality and helpful. I think your sim use case may lower the possibility of artifacts to some extent since there is less changes per frame and usually a large HUD that would lower the frame to frame delta bitrate. The Aero seems to fit my use case better... but the price and the lack of headphones are a downside.

The fact that there are so many headsets reminds me of what the gaming industry looked like befor the gaming crash of '83. There were tons of consoles and it took time before one or two stood out and took over. I wonder if there will always be a ton of vr headset options or if a few companies like sony will take over the market?

Systems will never stop behaving like systems. They create repeatable outcomes in predictable timeframes. Expecting that what's happened in the past will happen again since nothing has changed about the fundamental paradigm of the system is very reasonable.

I doubt it. There are many niche interests that different headets cater to. Some people want budget standalone VR, but others are purely looking for the best value tethered experience. Then there are people like me who want the best possible experience without unnecessary hardware like mobile processors or inside out trackers who will get something like a Varjo. If you go even above that you got brands making headets solely designed for arcades or enterprise use. Just like with phone brands, there will always be different brands designed to suit different users.

Headsets are not at all like consoles. Think of them like smartphones - people have wildly different needs and manufacturers build different devices to fit those use cases. Some users just want a cheap budget device to play around a bit, like the Pico 4 or quest 2. Some people are power users and they want high refresh rates, massive lenses, or insane resolutions.

I use my Pico 4 online for PCVR and for that usecase it´s WAY WAY better then Quest 2, The Resolution is way better and the lenses are beautiful. In my opinion it looks even better for pcvr than the Quest pro and its 1000$ cheaper

They Crystal is only 1500 now, 1400 if you're a previous owner. So much better pricing than the Aero. Also, the Crystal has a higher PPD than the 12k but the 12k has a wider FOV.

PSVR2 with a PC mode (esp with working eye tracking for dynamic foveated rendering) would likely make it the best bang for buck headset in 2023 for PC VR gaming. Unfortunately this won't be easy and it took a fair while to even bring PSVR1 to PC and that didn't have the complications of eye tracking (and PSVR isn't compatible, so no easy port there either).

I've been testing the Varjo XR-3 for work, and it's amazing. Nothing quite beats this headset in any category......except price. As the Varjo series* is not a consumer-oriented headset, it costs upwards of $10,000 and you have to have a commercial subscription to use it, which is another couple thousand dollars every year. *(They do have 1 consumer headset that does not require a subscription, but it's still 2 grand. The Varjo Aero. Still decent just not mixed reality.)

I *really* don't want to support The Zucc, but from what I've been seeing the Meta Quest 2 is the best option my wife and I have for the kind of vr we're looking for. Easy to use, no cables as necessary (wife and cables have a less than stellar relationship) and at a great price too. Waiting on the Meta Quest 3 might be more reasonable, or even springing for the Pico 4. Thoughts?

I bought the original HTC Vive in 2017 after my first trip to a VR Arcade. It's been stalwart all these years but paying the early adopters tax is difficult. Especially because the Index, which is so much better, is the same price now as the Vive was then, except I would agree it seems the Index might be getting a bit old and might not be a good value today. So far I feel that What I would do is buy a pair of Index controllers, keep using my Vive base stations, and buy the Varjo Aero to complete the set. The non-fresnel lenses and foveated rendering really appeals to me, as does the steamVR compatibility. I will still probably buy the pro audio strap from HTC for the vive, and when I have saved up, get the V2 lightboxes for steam VR so that the original Vive can still be used on another computer, so I can gift it to somebody who hasn't had the pleasure of VR. So in the end, despite the expense, I think I would prefer the Index Controllers, SteamVR 2.0 tracking, and Varjo Aero headset. Expensive, but not as bad as the big Pimax set, and enough of a quality jump over the Index to make it worth the price for me.

The "X" in the resolution is not read as "times" it is read as "by". For instance, 3,664 pixels BY 1,920 pixels. Meaning 3,664 pixels wide by 1,920 pixels tall. Same as a 2x4 piece of wood is a "two by four" not a two times four.

Yet again, another GR8 video (Thank U Cas 😊) I recently purchased the Quest Pro (already ownin the Quest 1 & 2 & started with the original Gear VR) There R a few issues with the Pro (forehead pressure is quite uncomfortable & the controllers sometimes take a while 2 set) but I am lookin 4ward 2 usin it more over Xmas (particularly the AR features) & I think it'll take over the Quest 2 as my daily headset 😏

I got the HP Mixed reality headset when it first came out. I had just upgraded and built a new pc with a 1080ti nvidia graphics card. I still use it, I am considering upgrading but have concerns around a few factors: 1) I wear glasses 2) I'm not gonna upgrade my computer anytime soon (so out dated graphics card) 3) Are there things on the market that are enough of an upgrade to consider? Great comparison video! I didn't know Pico 4 doesn't include RE4, one of my fav games ever. One big reason against it. Since it's my first time getting into VR and don't have a PS5 yet, I'll probably go by price-performance ratio with the MQ2 or MQ3 next year.
