Did you make a video about the Discus loss and why?

So glad you are back. Love watching you. I have 2 3" discus that are not eating. I think from bullying. I pulled them out into qt, but still not eating. Can you give me suggestions on how to get them to eat.
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hello Betty, thank you very much. Yes discus can stop eating from acute stress for sure and pretty normal. It is normal for the discus to nto eat for 3-4 days but afterwards they must start eating. It can either be from disease, bit most likely it is a fear issue.

I recommend you feed them their favourite food, and you show them the fold container. They will start to recognize you and stop associating you with threat and more with food. Try feed them a light food or the breeder / shop's food. Move slowly and feed arms length away. Patience - it will take some time for them 😀

Nice presentation, I want to ask you in case of discus shipment for many days, when we open bag the ph will increase and ammonia will harm discus, so I seen many discus keeper move it directly to tank without acclimation. Pkease advise
@discusdivana75812 ай бұрын
Hello Ahmad, yes you can add discus directly to a tank if you know what you are doing. If you have exact water perimetres info from the supplier and you make your water the same, then you can put fish in directly. It remains dangerous though, I would recommend adding a good anti-ammonia product in their water, I use Seachem Safe salts for example. Because you open the bag, the pure oxygen goes out and normal air enters. The water may react to the normal air, and yes when pH goes above 6.5-6.8, Ammonia becomes very toxic.

Hi Divina, do you use UV sterelizer for the discus ? thank you !
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hi there, currently I don't but if yoi have UV steriliser then yes it is great to use. But be careful. You can not use medication when UV light is on Switch UV light off before you use medication!

@@discusdivana7581 ok thank you, I have only one tank so I think it will be ok for the electricity bill. In your case, with this many tanks that would be insane costs..

Hi can you recommend a good discus book please 👍
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hello Simon thanks for ocmmenting on all my videos! For diseases, I recommend Dieter Untergasser's Discus Health, or Dr. Bassleer's diseases of fish books, available in several languages. Other favourite boosk of mine are Andrew Soh's books - the naked truth. I love Jack Wattley's books for basic discus understanding, breeding. Author Heiko Bleher has lovely info regarding discus breeders across the world, types of discus species and their natural habitat. Other collectors books of mine are Dick Au's books. Dr. Edward Schmidt Focke has some books /articles/info on old fashioned tricks for treatment and breeding, as well as discovering discus fishes.

Read the fine print! They all died eventually! Which tells me that it could have been the acclimation or poor care. Either way... would not take a chance on such expensive fish listening to advice given here🤔. A fish massacre is what the video should be referencing.

Hi there!An external disease called Cryptobia iubilans contaminated my whole fishroom in 2020. The fish did not die from my acclimation. Another disease entered my facility via another import that spread and killed my facility.

I have been keeping discus for over 10 years it is not poor care and I would not purchase $6000+ discus to take care of them poorly 🙂 much love and regards, Divana

How did your whole system get contaminated? How did a new shipment even come in contact with previous stock? Poor care. Responsibility and ownership of previous mistakes is what makes us better. Correct what you can. 🤷🏾♂️

@@wonderfulworldofwater370 I imported using a local agency. We imported these winderful discus, 7 boxes, from Stendker Diskuszucht in 2019. They arrived via flight through Lufthansa airfreight logistics.
