In this video, I show you the best way to fry Tilapia / Mojarra Frita. This delicious fried fish dish can be paired with a variety side dishes like rice, beans, potato fries, corn, tortillas, salads, pico de gallo and guacamole. The spices and the flavor of garlic makes this recipe so delicious! Try my recipe down below.
Fried Tilapia / Mojarra Frita
Ingredients:
2 - whole Tilapia
4 - cups Peanut oil - You can use any oil you want ( I prefer peanut oil to the highly processed
seed oils)
4 - cloves garlic
Dried spices: 1 tsp salt
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp paprika
Breading/flour mixture: 2 tbsp flour
1 tbsp cornstarch
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
Instructions:
*Rinse the inside of the fish under cold water until the water runs clear, use your fingers to scoop
out any innards. Then, pat dry with a paper towel.
*Combine dried ingredients
*Combine breading ingredients
*Make 2 slits on each side of Tilapia
*Season fish with the dried spices mixture
*Place fish in a glass container
*Cover and place in the fridge for 3 hours
*After 3 hours, rub with breading/flour mixture
*Heat oil to 350 degrees
*Add 4 cloves garlic
*Fry fish and cook for 6-8 minutes each side until the internal thick side temperature of fish reach
145 degrees F
*Flip over carefully as oil gets hot
*When the fish is done, remove the fish carefully and place on a plate lined with paper towels
*Let the fish rest for 5 minutes then serve with your favorite side dishes
*Enjoy!
Notes:
*Use longer utensils for ease / safety
* Be careful when you flip over the fish as it gets too hot
* Make sure the fish is fully cook
* I bought the fish from Costco.
