It is a problem if you hit the wall with the edge of the roller because you’ll leave swirl marks on the wall that if they dry you’ll need to sand off before painting the walls
@mikeparker50086 жыл бұрын
If you "come down onto the walls, you'll paint that later.." - you may lay a lot of white on to (what should be) dark walls. You might add the need to cut in more after you paint the WALLS. Just try to cut your ceiling properly, it will cause less grief later.

I think the best way is to pay someone to do it for you. If you can't afford to do that, Benjamin Moore ultra flat ceiling paint is extremely forgiving provided you try to do it right. I also suggest covering everything in plastic. To include your own head. Because it will go everywhere. My glasses had tiny little spatters on them so eye protection is probably essential.
@maureenmc14 жыл бұрын
Yes i agree. get someone else to do it for you if you can. I use to use Benjamin Moore all the time. Good paint

@rorybellows76213 жыл бұрын
No need on that brush work on the ceiling. Just use a broken in roller cover and you can sve yourself time and effort. The roller can do the same work as the brush.Just double check the coverage, but you will need to use brush for the corners.

Dont do it folks,if you go around the room with a paint brush it will start to dry by you get to rolliing it, you will get whats called a picture frame effect and its not easy to get rid of, you can paint it as you roll it then your paint lines are always wet,,trust me Ive made the mistake years ago !!
@lesliejacobs14395 жыл бұрын
Antony Gilbey I believe that..I always get the picture frame look.
@patadams16735 жыл бұрын
I do this but then quickly back roll with a small purdy roller as I go around so I get the same texture if it dries before you roll the main part of the ceiling.

I've learned that a good pattern for large ceilings that must be rolled is that you pick the wall furthest from the light source usually a window and you stagger blocks rolling in in the direction of the light. Create a "jigsaw" or "step" pattern. 1 meter by 2 meters long, next to a 1 meter by 1 meter, then 1 meter by 2 meters long, then one meter square to create "steps." Once your first stagger has been set up, then you proceed across doing 1 metre square blocks until you've reached the end. This allows to cover measuredly, and any necessary overlap is always on fresh wet paint so that it has time to even out. Also, the larger the brush the better. I don't like using 18 inch brushes with deep matting, but I do because it goes on thick and wide. 1 metre square is about 3-4 x 18" roller strokes. The problem with thick-matted rollers is that they spit.
@ronmclean99677 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment You could try a 12 inch roller with a half inch nap. Lately that is what I have been using. Works very well
@billprezioso36775 жыл бұрын
Dude you need to turn that roller every few strokes to prevent a paint buildup on the open end of the roller and thus prevent roller lines that need to be rolled out making more work,also it is a big deal if you hit the wall with the side of the roller it will make swirl marks on the wall where you will be cutting in later and finally keeping a wet edge is not necessary if you are using a dead flat finish which most ceiling paints are,and you only need a wet edge if you are rolling paints with a sheen like eggshell or semigloss to prevent areas of higher shine where the two coats meet.

What size nap??? Flat paint???
@jackwardley36266 жыл бұрын
10mm to 12mm nap for good finish coverage paint loading 6mm to 8mm nap for the best finish but less coverage and paint loading maybe even a extra coat when a strong colour is involed. I've always used 12mm smooth surface's 25mm for uneven surfaces.

@ronmclean99677 жыл бұрын
I dip it about 1/2 inch in and knock of very little to prevent jut to prevent dripping. Same thing with the roller. Load up and keep it moving towards the wall or ceiling turning it along the way to prevent drips. Use a good quality roller cover. it will help to avoid spatters and give you better coverage.
