I see a lot of people who do not know the first thing about singing or respecting an artist's individuality, coming on here attacking Desiree's outstanding performance. A few weeks ago, I played this video for my 2 years old niece and she was so captivated. Even though she woke up cranky, on hearing Desiree's performance, she was held spellbound for the entire two songs, and even sang along with Desiree and applauded when Desiree hit the high notes. A 2-year-old girl has more maturity than these adults who are here hating on Desiree. I do not consider this an example of foversinging because Desiree opened the songs with grace and delivered the verses clearly and timely. She then uses her amazing range to improvise and add climax to the closing part. That's Desiree's STYLE of singing - It is not about showing off, it is about using her voice the way she feels right. If you cannot appreciate her STYLE , then find an artist who sings the way you like. Patti has shared about other singers who would complain that she sings too loudly. That did not stop her singing the way she knows is right for her stylistic expression.

@Saysonow2 жыл бұрын
@@hoseasylvester2596 And I do not shy away from taking all the credits either. Desiree is a natural-born coloratura soprano. She is not in opera singing arias specifically written for her skill-set, for example, The Magic Flute. Therefore, as a pop singer, she incorporates her coloratura techniques in her delivery of standard pop songs. But instead of appreciating her style, you called it oversinging. You lot need to make it easier and accept that you are not musically sophisticated.
@hoseasylvester25962 жыл бұрын
@@Saysonow you don't shy away yes, but you're still not right. You can be an coloratura without oversinging. And even if you don't want to call it oversinging then most people agree that it's not pleasing to the ears. Plain and simple. I used to love watching the Arsenio Hall show, but because it aired late in the Philippines, I couldn't catch every episode. One particular performance that blew me away was Desiree Coleman's rendition of "Greatest Love of All." This was way before Mariah Carey made whistling popular. Desiree was ahead of her time in the 80s, which was my generation. I'm curious, where is she now? It's surprising that she hasn't achieved widespread recognition.

This isn't the whistle register; it's high head voice, like that of an opera singer. I can tell she is technically trained in singing gospel and broadway and one thing they NEVER do is encourage the use of disconnected registers such as falsetto and whistle. They are considered unhealthy and permit less projection and fluidity, which are the hallmarks of both broadway and gospel. Nevertheless, it's possible to use them stylistically, and Carey and Riperton nailed that.

Desiree- starred in the mid 80's in "Go Tell it on the Mountain, the movie version of James Baldwin's book. She was in the off Broadway black play production "Moma I Want to Sing." Ms. Patti saw her talent and wanted to promote her; but there was much more to do. Raw talent still requires good vocal coaching, appropriate material to sing and advertising - none of which Ma. Coleman received consistently. However, she is a wonderful wife, a proud mother and an unashamed woman of the Gospel of The LORD JESUS CHRIST.
