I love silk scarves and have been wearing them for 40 years, “on-trend” or not. I wear them a lot autumn through spring because even cashmere feels itchy on my neck; I even wear them around the house under sweaters. They add so much color, pattern, softness and femininity to an outfit, protect the skin and are always elegant and chic. I love wearing solid-color knit dresses and silk scarves are perfect with them. To go out, I just add knee boots and coat or blazer, so easy and comfortable. Every single time I wear one I get compliments on my “elegant outfit”, not even on the scarf itself, but on the overall look. It can take a bit if courage to wear them the first few times, but once the compliments come rolling in, one will be convinced. I’ve found that the less effort I put into arranging them, the better the look, just chuck them on! Often I use a a cheap little “gold”ring, the 10 for $5 type, to keep them on, just pull both ends through (the smaller, 21” ones can barely tie).

Such great tips! I adore silk scarves. It’s true you can get caught up with tutorials on how to style them-my go-to way to use a silk scarf is tied in the front, Girl Scout style, and it looks very preppy. I also use it as a headscarf by wrapping it to keep my hair from getting in my face, in a headband style. I have to agree with you completely about leather handbags. I will never buy a faux leather purse again! They peel and break and cost me more money in the long run to keep replacing them. Genuine leather is the best way to go. I personally love the brand Fossil. I have several thrifted purses from them and they are my favorites.

Such great tips and I fully agree with 99%. The only "rule" I would break is that a leather handbag is a must. I love leather bags but I've become a huge MZ Wallace fan over the last few years to the point that I don't miss leather. They are chic, well designed, lightweight and functional. Two women native New Yorkers started the company years ago and they have every occasion covered from everyday to formal. My daughter lives in NYC and carries them everyday too.

Not sure if you cut your hair or styled differently by tucking both sides, but this is your best look. So youthful. Good shoes are a must. Flats are hard for tall gals with a “good understanding” (ie - large feet). So often flats feel like clown shoes. These look lovely.

I haven't tried a neckerchief scarf in ages ! I think it was several years ago with one knotted on the side over a cashmere turtleneck and worn with denim flares and black loafers. A friend quipped that I must've just managed to work my hands and gag loose ! 😁

Beth, please do a video on wearing camel. I’m in love with the color especially with black but I am very fair. Camel can wash pale ladies out if it’s not the right shade. I just got a gorgeous camel real leather jacket from Talbots. I know you’re a Talbots fan too. I’m pairing it with a camel and black maxi dress and camel suede ankle boots and a Tory Burch bag in the same shade. I also got a lighter camel blazer from Talbots that I’m pairing with black pants and a black tank. But I could use your expertise on other stylings.

Same here, but I've learned to use the tips in my price range. I may not look expensive, but my style has improved, and I feel more confident. For example, I purchased nude flats from Naturalizer which go with everything, and I have always worn scarves, but they're just not silk. I buy the best quality I can afford.

Diane, here are some things I do because my budge is always very small for my wardrobe. I live very minimally and spending on a wardrobe is very methodical for me. When I need to clear an item/items out of my closet I go to a thrift store that pays me for in season clothing. I take the money and walk the store to see if there is anything that I can add into my wardrobe from the store. I have found quite a few really nice things some of which have been new shopping like this. I also go into regular thrift store for things like a specific type earring. I just wipe every item of jewelry down very carefully with alcohol. I shop stores that offer a special discount when you sign up for text/emails and I use the discount. I find the nicest item I can find for my money. I recently found the quality of T-shirt I wanted at Kohls by Nine West. I also found a nude cami there and it was free because I had a $10 coupon. I have also had friends do a clean your closet and shop party. A few friends clear out their closet and you come together and see what you can repurpose. I keep my wardrobe fairly simple and use accessories to switch things up. So I don’t own many clothes/shoes/bags but I have belts & costume jewelry I mix up to create a look that makes the same blouse look fresh again. I also take very good care of every item I own. I spot treat and hand wash some things so my affordable items stay nice and fresh looking. Getting creative with how I spend has actually been a fun challenge for me as over the years my taste & style has changed a bit. 😊I hope you find this helpful ❤
