I really enjoyed you showing the nuances of tank maintenance. I think so many people new to the hobby may not consider the maintenance aspect. Like you, I consider maintenance therapeutic. I really liked how you called out which leaves were going bad and which were covered in algae and how you addressed the problem. Also liked the call out to the non-intuitive notion of adding more fertilizers when seeing green spot algae! Keep on scaping!

Hello George, I enjoyed watching your video. I am new to aquascaping and am eager to learn new tips and get as much advice as I can. I have 2 tanks in my house right now and would really like your opinion on a couple things for each. The first is a Fluval flex 15 gallon that I cut the plastic wall out of and just set up a penn plax cascade 500 canister filter. I was having trouble with bad water because I could not get every little corner clean around that plastic. Now it is just a glass cube and I like the simplicity of it. My question is which CO2 system would you recommend that I use to dose that tank? I use flourish excel in it now but I think I would really like to switch to using CO2 canister. Thoughts? Next, I have a 5 gallon nano tank similar to the one you keep Nimrod in. I want to switch that tank from excel to CO2 as well is there a different brand of CO2 canister that you know about that I can get in my area? I live in California. Where can I order the CO2 system you mentioned in this video? I notice many brands differ here in the states in comparison to your area of the world. Help please? Also, can I see a shot of the back of your Fluval tank? How to you have the lines running to it? Do you use a tank heater?

George have you been studying up on your production skills? Your newest videos are so slick and are shot, lit, explained, and edited very well. I also appreciate the more “tutorial” feel of this video because very few people of your skill level (both aquascaping and video production) are doing things like this. Also, you and Nimrod have inspired me to start my third tank! It’s a nano rimless cube for a betta like yours but I’m trying it as a low energy setup since i split my co2 for the other tanks from a big canister and this tank is in a different room, I have a very good betta breeder near me and I’m hoping to stock him in the tank this week!

Hi George, quick question if you don't mind. You noted that dangers of large water changes are often overstated. Does that include tanks that contain shrimp? The dire warnings often seem to go hand in hand with them. Assuming stable tap dissolved solids and remineralization, if that matters.
@GeorgeFarmerStudios5 жыл бұрын
With hardy species like Neocaridina davidi (cherry) and Amano they’re fine. You may want to be more careful with sensitive species but if water parameters are equal then it should be fine.

I never get tired of seeing Nimrod!! I’m so scared of using CO2, but some day I will have the beautiful high tech tank of my dreams! I have an algae related question, I have water lettuce and it seems some brown algae it’s in its roots as well as in some hornworth I have floating, what do you think it’s the problem? i started to put some liquid ferts and reducing the photo period, but I have another tank with sun light as a source and I don’t have that problem there 🤔

G. R.C. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your problem but I did have the exact same problem in my tank. I decided I would chance some cherry shrimp in with my betta as clean up crew. They've been fantastic and are almost always hanging from the water lettuce roots, munching away. I haven't seen any algea since about a week after I put them in there.

Hi George, thank you again for an awesome video. I am currently using the new version of the inline diffuser sold by CO2 Art and I was wondering if the AQUARIO NEO CO2 DIFFUSER is better at dispersing co2? What are the pros and cons for these two? Should I stay with the inline or replace with the neo?

Inline is very good. I use inline on bigger aquariums. The mist is finer and better distribution but bubbles do cloud the water more than the NEO

Buy an extra pair of lily pipes and you can swap the dirty ones for clean ones, the ones that are dirty from your tank you can leave them in the bleach for a few days and they are totally clean without touching them because they are fragile. If do you break them you also have spare set to use right away, and order a new set later.

Hi George. I have 2 nano tanks. A 39ltr that houses 11 Ember Tetra and a 14ltr that is home to a small betta fish that I "rescued" from Pets At Home. The fish are all doing really well and have been thriving for a while but the plants in the small tank are suffering. I have 2 species of hygrophilia that seem to manage fine, crypto wendtii brown is fine but a other small crypt is just not growing. Everything in the small tank is covered in a black dust like algae that rubs off with a toothbrush. It's a constant battle to deal with this stuff and it doesn't appear in the other tank. I've limited the light, it is moved to the darkest part of the room and is kept switched off until the evening but I would like more light for plant growth. Really struggling with this one.

Hrm. For that low tech tank I'd remove the rotala on the right and mix the hygro on the left with Alternanthera reineckii 'Rosaefolia' (aka pink). I'd probably plant something slightly lower growing and grassier on the right side like vallisneria nana or dwarf sag - or some largeish crypt that still won't fill all the space. Now it feels a bit busy and distracts from the driftwood in my opinion. All those should grow fine without CO2 injection. Just my thoughts anyway.

I've porchaced the same canister filter for my betta, unfortunatly, the water flow is too much for him to handle in a 10g tank. waiting for the Eheim double tap quick connectors to arrive to help regulate the water flow for a slower outflow. . anyone else experience the sa,e issue as i am? just curious is all.

Your knowledge and experience are invaluable! I've been wanting to learn a bit more about those nano systems. Thanks so much.🙏 I have heard of tanks being started with Co2 then gradually weaned off. Never tried it. This beautiful scape for example kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ3Vl6tmbc2km8k . A lot of that must be attributed to the choice of plants as well. Oh and I'd love to see more red in those tanks😉
