George Farmer I have the same betta but found out mine is female. Called her Sriracha. Very energetic spicy girl. I did the same Iwagumi style but with five small ohko stones with some java ferns. Shes in a 3.7 us gallon sump system. I need better lighting but she is comfy. Koi Bettas i prefer more now since their fins are shorter. Half Moon Deltas are also great.

I have 2 Betta's in a 20 gallon with a divider, I find keeping them together keeps them stimulated but i provide plenty of plant's and wood to swim around and hide from each other and a floating log each, they really love them and sleep in them at night. I agree with your philosophy on maintenance make it easy and try to enjoy it, I do it weekly on all my tanks and do my best every time to slow the progress of algae it is the endless war we all fight...

Ahh, Nimrod. My father god rest his soul, worked on Nimrods and AWACS planes in RAF. I also knew a chap called Nimrod, also ex RAF and a great cartoonist. Great name. I have just bought my first Betta since starting fish keeping in 1977, this weekend and he is a double tail blue.

Happy New Year George and many thanks! After watching you and the late, great Takashi Amano's videos on KZbin I returned to the aquarium hobby and scaped my first Farmer/ADA style nano cube in May. A few tanks later...I'm up to my ears in Cherry Shrimp and my Emperor Tetras have spawned. Yes, bringing nature indoors is life enriching. You are both a creative inspiration and an expert at teaching the technical skills so that we too may have a successful experience. I believe the most critical aspect to high tech tanks is the addition of CO2 but I find this the most daunting. I purchased a Fluval kit but it was too small. I want my plants to thrive but I don't want to make a mistake in purchasing poorly made or unsuitable equipment that could harm my livestock. I also don't want to spend a fortune. There are so many types, brands and prices of regulators. Reviewers discuss problems with needle valve adjustment, hose selection, selenoid burn out, leaking, tank dump, etc. Then there's all the DIY advice online for use of welder's equipment, beer/soda supplies and paintball tanks. My small tanks are all close together and I would like to have one big CO2 cylinder to service them all, if possible. I have watched you put together the CO2 set up a dozen times. Would you be able to elaborate on the pros and cons of all the available equipment that's out there to choose from? I'm in the US and shop on EBay, Amazon and other Aquarium retail sources. Would a regulator with multiple bubble counters be appropriate for my situation? Thank you George for any info. Love when you take us on your travels.

My betta arrives on January 11th. He's a HMPK - body is white with some blue scales. His fins are purple, red, blue and turquoise. It's quite a burst of colors. I'll call him Pop. I'm excited for how his character will be. :) Nice video and I enjoyed it.

I love that Elgar piece, too, George. Very nice little home that you’ve made there for Nimrod. Can he live with any shrimp at all, or would he just munch them all up? My new favorite nano fish is the ruby tetra. They have a surprisingly attractive behavior in the tank, being micro-predators. They are constantly inspecting every nook and cranny, but are too tiny to eat anything bigger than a newborn cherry shrimp.

Thanks! I only check by looking at the amount coming from the diffuser. Just experience I guess. Too little and I’ll get algae and poor plant growth. Too much and Nimrod will be sluggish.

Thanks George. My granddaughter has lost 2 just because they jumped out. She even had a lid for the second one. I’ve often wondered how people keep fish in open tanks? You know, the ones with wood & plants coming out of the top. We’ve lost some of our fish due to their suicidal issues. Even a rummynose was found on the carpet the other day.

It all depends on luck.. Some fish just jump occasionally, most of the times they jump and end up back in the water, if they're unlucky they'll land outside of water. Having perfect water quality will help lessen the jumping behaviour a bit.

hey man, really like your tanks! love the clean look, when you dont see any of the equipment....but the heater and the skimmer quit ruin the look dont you think? i know the glass quality is much lower but in this case i would prefer something with an inbuild sump system like the fluval ones where you could hide the heater and maybe also the skimmer. whats your opinion on that?

Hi, you're obviously an expert aquascaper, do you have any advice for scaping a tank that is shallow (narrow) and tall? My tank is 33cm deep(wide) 77cm long and 51 cm high, so the absolute worst to scape. Any suggestions? I really want a good looking aquascape

Hey George (or anyone knowledgeable), I'm having issues with my ADA Amazonia substrate. The water is seriously murky and cloudy no matter how slow I pour water into the tank! I'm not sure what will reduce the soil from leeching so much into the water column. Any help is appreciated!

I'm setting a cube same size and its so hard to find a way to hid the filter and the heater, we need a solution for this size. I ended up using zoo med 10 mini with an inline heater to hide everything.

Thanks. I think Otocinclus are too small for this. They’re a shoaling fish and often misrepresented as nano fish in my view.

Stunning galaxy koi betta. My only question is...Why not removing the fish? After all you are using scissors to cut some of the plants. I personally would feel better knowing I don't have to worry about that little fellow.
