Great video and awesome to see Katie B out there showing the ladies how they can be out there and get it done. Cable restraints here in PA are similar to those in Wisconsin. Defiantly easier to keep them going in the late season over the foot holds for sure.

Bottle necking the snare/restraint travel funnel is critical for sure. We have a lot of cedars here and their branches are prickly. Great to trim off a few twigs and jam them in the ground to block adjacent trails so the animal only has one choice to pass thru the funnel. Our sets here in Kentucky cannot be closer than 10 feet to each other so it is not possible to set multiple snares or restraints on all the travel funnels close together, side by side. Even a light snow can be magical for finding active small game travel routes. Thanks for sharing.

I might have to look into those, ai had initially written then off because looking through the michigan trappers digest they only allow you to use them within a certain time frame, and below that the dnr had a list of 15 bulletpoints further restricting thier use, but I guess if they do t freeze over like footholds I may have to try some.

I live in North Dakota our winter freeze is from mid-late October till April I have wrecked so many augars and set building hammers trying to set even a decent line my only option is a full length fire ax to dig a trap bed out of the iced up black dirt I'm surrounded by, with Cable it avoids that issue completely find a trail in the snow anchor set next location or pinch spot on the same trail.

Dumb question here 🙋♂️ .. I do a lot of coyote and Fox hunting on public land,,, do you trappers find it more easy to get permission to trap private owned property? Like it seems you’re doing a favor for a farmer or rancher by thinning out the predators? Is that the case, or is it still pretty tough getting access?
@66bigbuds3 ай бұрын
Everyone around here tells me that the snares damage fur. Or maybe it's our michigan legal coyote snares that don't kill.

So snares aren’t legal in Wisconsin ? Do you normally walk on the coyote tracks?
@mattthiessen516 Жыл бұрын
You always want to walk on their tracks. That's so they keep using the same trails. If you make a fresh track, it could get them going where you don't want them to go. The coyotes don't care if you walk their trails. The more packed down the trail the more likely they are to use it.
@Vernbubba Жыл бұрын
@@mattthiessen516 I haven’t seen those traits in coyotes in northern Minnesota I never walk on the coyote track. Cool video though
@mattthiessen516 Жыл бұрын
I'm in Manitoba, so not that far from you. I have found coyotes want to walk the most used or packed trail. One set I made didn't work well on their trail because it was to open. So i covered their trail and walked back and forth packing a new trail. Set my power ram in a spot i had picked out and 2 days later had a dog in it. Was no fresh tracks over their old trail.

The loop size law was a frustrating NDGF play, once I figured out my total legal length of cable to cut so no stop was needed I was happy again, I couldn't find pre made ND legal snares for them. I feel we could easily lose there use cuz my local CO was full of questions about them on a visit this deer season and he hasn't seen me use one in years something had him thinking about them.... They save lots of pheasants in my trapping areas after we return from Frisco with another title it's officially Ram season in Bison country....
