Emotional abuse is a severe form of psychological trauma. It’s otherwise known as mental or psychological abuse; however these terms refer to the same concept. Unlike physical abuse, emotional abuse doesn’t leave visible scars. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t damaging. When a perpetrator abuses a victim emotionally, they use several forms of manipulation to control the person.
Abusers break down their victim’s self-esteem to the point where they feel worthless. When a victim believes that they don’t deserve love, they are at the whim of their abuser. The perpetrator may engage in name calling, shaming, and telling the abused person that they’re unlovable. Threats are a large part of the emotional or mental abuse. The abuser tells their victim that they won’t be able to do better or find love.
The victim often hides the mental or emotional abuse from friends and family because they are ashamed. However, there are some signs to indicate emotional abuse is happening. If you think someone you love is a victim of abuse, don’t ignore that intuition. Check in with them and see if they need help. You could save a life.

I was emotionally abused - but I was the one who was looking up his phone and trying to find proof he is cheating and lying. Finally I found out it was true, but because of the gaslighting, I needed solid proof. Emotional abuser can make the victim act like an abuser.

In my experience, they don’t flat out deny ever having said something, but they reinterpret what they meant by what they said. This makes you feel like maybe you were wrong. But after so many instances of this, you begin to see the pattern of avoiding responsibility and gaslighting

Never have gone back. Withstood the abuse, the stalking, the hoovering, the manipulation. If I told you what she did you would be sick. It hurt like hell because I loved her but I discovered I loved myself more. The pain feels like death sometimes but I kept moving forward. The journey gets easier. @@matthewcallaghan1512 Exactly. I'm one of those men too. It started out beautiful -- like a fairy tale. I genuinely thought I was going to marry her -- we even picked out names for our future kids! Five years later, she forced me into a joint bank account, would take all of my money, refuse to let me use any of it, forced me to do things I would NEVER do otherwise (but i did them, because I loved her). Among other unspeakable things. It's been two years since we broke up. I just found out she's marrying her rebound (they started dating a few months after our five year relationship) in two months. I'm bewildered, but also relieved. I dodged a bullet. I'm still healing, but now I know what to look out for and how to love myself. Thank you for sharing your story and letting other guys out there know it can happen to them too.

I used to wonder why my relationships always ended badly, then one day I realised that *l* was the problem. I refused to believe it at first but when I started really being honest with myself I could see that I was dishonest, selfish and emotionally manipulative. It’s sad to think how many people out there are just like me but will never have the come-to-Jesus moment that I did, and go wrecking lives with no idea that they’re a monster.

Sadly, not all counselors/therapists have the skill to help. I am a therapist myself, and have experienced the abusive tactics contained in this video, and have sought out therapy but despite quite a few attempts, have not found many therapists skilled in this area. That was an eye opener. Maybe a video on how to find such a therapist would help (I provide such help to my clients, but of course, I cannot help myself, such is the nature of therapy and human connection). This video is excellent and I have shared it.

I have been in one and I didn’t even reliase it I’m embarrassed to say as he had me convinced it was all me and I needed professional help...and I was really convinced it was me too ! If I took a step out of his line he would leave me for days and block me , refuse rent owed if I got him angry and control with money , threaten to leave me if I didn’t let him be right..and would make out it was me with the problems and I believed it was me . I still love him weirdly it’s like an addiction but I don’t think I could go back as he won’t accept his behaviour or acknowledge it . It’s been 4 weeks since we split up and it’s hard I would usually beg him back and give him emotional control of me but no more I can’t . Thankyou for this video ❤️
