Betty you’re a really good teacher! You’re clear and concise and make your teachings easy to understand. I’m going to re-watch this teaching because I really need it. I stumble with technology and must stick with it and “Power” thru like you sometimes say about a painting we might get stuck on. I remember one video of you I saw years ago and people asked if you’d teach your way of painting. At that time you had said you weren’t ready yet. Boy am I soooo happy you decided to teach. You’re such a blessing and benefit to so many of use who love the way you paint and learn from you. Thank you for all you do and all you give to us!!! May the Lord continue to bless you!❤️

Hello to you! Thankful to have found you online. You are covering a LOT and it is vital to know what's worked, your experiences,etc. I'm trying to get back to my art, which I enjoy immensely-always have. No matter what holiday, birthday, etc. I gave my 3 children decent art supplies. Yes, they received other things but I never let them run out! My 2 girls can draw and my middle daughter, Jenna, is the one that took to it the most and on her own volition, created. Because she HAD to-because she was a true, for real artist with an artist's soul. She had a very discouraging art teacher at her high school, which hurt me as her Mother. I have friends who had kids near the same age and "experienced" this "teacher" as well and had a horrible experience! SAD!!! I was fortunate in my high school to have a wonderful and very talented herself art teacher and no matter what, she always found something positive about what we were 'turning out.' She was a gift! She would answer any questions, encouraged our projects, had great projects for us to do and used a plethora of different mediums. She is fantastic-she's an older lady now but I call her every so often! In fact, I think I'm now going to check in with her again and I just now decided that. Hey-Thanks-you just became part of this. Congratulations, you just made a difference and you don't even know it! I think that is FUN! My daughter, Jenna Rose, was fearless later on and used a lot of intuitive art-she had no trouble painting over something and redoing things or let some of that becomes a part of the new project. She also was a good photographer! And when her computer broke down-and she was using the 'old fashioned' but at least top of the line Adobe system. So she was playing with photos, etc. digitally. I began to tell you that her computer just ran out of gas, so to speak, so she began writing! She checked and researched, bought a lot of books about art, multi-media-tons of that!- and I realized, this young woman is so "Zen" and centered that she simply poured herself into writing-and, I realized-wow, my daughter can really write. We have a number of friends who are published in the poetry field and going further to include plays that have ben developed for the stage, songs, -gosh-can't even remember what all. Amazing and gifted people. And most all of there wives road in 3 day eventing with their horses! We live in an area where there is excellent footing for all types of horsemen-horsewomen. I rode when I was younger but these people, Wow! Major talent and lots of hard work! And the published authors, wow. A lovely friend, Harriet was one of the strongest people I've known and at the same time, so gentle. I have a plaque with a picture of a man and his young child in "nature" and holding the babe up to the sky-that was the statement below. Harriet could draw and drew a picture of one of our Bouviers-we kept our dogs among friends when planned litters happened so we had brothers&sisters, Mother, Aunt, nephew, Grandmother. We did that with the Bouvier de Flanders and then later when our friends golden retriever had a litter and she gave us -all of the friends, the choice of the litter. I'm getting off topic-very sorry. I am very much looking forward to learning more from you-and Jenna Rose would've been, as well. But my darling girl died from cancer about 3 years ago. It seems that I have a hard time doing anything without mentioning her and I know it makes some people uncomfortable, which I do not want to do. Jenna could put anyone at ease. Beautiful inside and out she was. Talented and creative she was. Genuine and knew herself. I could go on but I will not. This is too long already. But I still have 2 speeds, 1,000 mph. or STOP. Am trying for the middle ground. We were incredibly close-never had any of those Mother-teenage daughter problems. Her bewildered brother had her as a best friend, confidant, protector, one to bounce their own brand of humor off of-just a truly close relationship and there was a pretty big age difference. He was born13 years after her! Same Dad. But they as close as a brother and sister could possibly be. She was so proud of him and he came to her for a lot of advice before us, a lot! She was so calm. She knew things, knew him and could advise him if he wanted that. They had a blast together, always. No sibling jealousy-never happened. Love is what it was-just pure love. But she was the artist in the family although we often did projects together, supplies, what not and she would show me what she was working on, etc. We shared that. I know this-were were trying for a studio space somehow that we could be in together and then just be able to shut the door and leave our supplies out by closing a door so the the myriads of dogs and cats couldn't get into it. Plus, a dedicated studio makes things so much easier. I NEED to get started again. And to get back out into nature again, too. There were many times she would put on her muck boots and hitch up our giant dog, who adored her and go into the meadow across the street and through the woods. Dog and Camera in tow. I have written way too much and I know that. Please accept my apology for that- you are not a counselor, you are an artist with whom I have resonated with on my side-therefore--therefore- aw, heck-therefore -nothing, I guess. Sheesh! I will say this and keep my word- I will not write a treatise should I write you again! That I can promise. It's just pouring out of me right now. And your artwork is very inspiring to me. So, now you know that you are reaching people at a lot of different levels and experiences that are trying to have fun, improve their work, price their work, let the work bring focus and joy, etc. She was so good on the computer and I am your basic dinosaur when it comes to these new-fangled Google machines-lol. Thank you and thank you some more. Yours truly, Terri Spencer-Williams, Aiken, South Carolina.

@@BettyFranksArt Thank you, It IS definitely overwhelming for not only my and her Father, brother, Aunt but I totally know & understand how much, too much- it is for others. It is too much to absorb-and as I said, you are not a counselor, you are an artist and a teacher--and whatever else you do and are to your very own people and life! I do not expect an answer for everything-believe me! I KNOW my daughter would have been enamored of your style. We were much alike in that way, as well as many others. And please take me at my word when I stated that I would not do that again! My daughter was a "watcher" since the night she was born. I knew this and more. The artist in her kept her in good stead with all she went through. I am able to resonate with your painting style and also the thing you are speaking of-being more social, social media, advice from experience in marketing and selling your art is invaluable. That is a LOT to share. My thanks to you for the way you are and the info and gifts you share. I am very glad I found you on line :) I am open to wishes for all the best in life! Thanx! Thanks for talking about your process and your marketing approach. I'm not sure if you said this in this video but I have been thinking about it. I think you said you spend about 75 percent of the time on biz and 20 on painting. That blows my mind! That's like having a full time job and painting on the weekends. Actually 1.25 days a week. On painting. I'm trying to become a full time painter but I'm already painting more than that. I'm not selling like you so I guess I have to quit working and spend all my time selling? Wow that is very discouraging. I really appreciate you being honest about that. It's an eye opener very helpful in planning how to work and how to price.
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I spend the majority of my time running my art business. You can be an artist and just create art or you can be a working artist where you are creating and doing everything you can to sell your artwork. I have a very limited inventory of artwork at all times because I don't spend all my time creating and letting the pieces stack up. I prefer having a limited inventory and more money to pay my bills and enjoy life. It's a shift in thinking and doing. Wishing you all the best in your adventures, Peter!

How would you suggest taking that leap so that the process and reasons for creating certain pieces are shared naturally with others?
@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
Good question! Social media and art is all about connecting with others. Sharing your process--work in progress, finished pieces, your supplies, etc.--helps connect you with your audience. If your goal is to sell your art, people need to first like you, then trust you, then they'll buy from you. I hope that helps! Wishing you tons of success!

I'm an artist's assistant, I'm trying to boost her social media for her studio. I'm thinking that having her separate her IG account into professional and personal accounts, is that a good idea? Also how do you feel about the usage of QR codes? Is it a good idea or inconvenience? Thanks :)
@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi JoAnne! I totally recommend separating personal and biz on IG. When folks are following her account because of the art and then she posts a personal picture, the person is going to be confused and may unfollow. I think personal pics can be posted, but in a carousel post as the 2nd or 3rd pic...never the first pic. Sometimes I'll post art and then add pictures that may have inspired that piece. QR codes are great--especially if you're doing live events. I don't think they're necessary for social media or online unless you're trying to quickly get them to a specific page. There's a cost associated with QR code. Most companies have you sign up for a plan that you can pay yearly or monthly and you get X number of QR codes. Once you stop using their service, the QR codes are no longer valid. Something to keep in mind. Wishing you and the artist tons of success!

@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
Great questions. The answer is no. I used his color wheel a couple of times, but quickly found out that I love all color and that his color wheel was too limiting for me. However, that being said, his color wheel is brilliant!

Betty, this may be a silly request, but is there any way that, next time you film yourself painting on a canvas, you might be able to show close-ups of you applying the brush filled with paint to the canvas? It would really help make it very visceral seeing how dry the brush is, and how well, or not well, the paint covers the previous layer. Thank you! 💖 #artistqueries 😊
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
I love that idea, however, it would require purchasing a second camera or having a studio assistant follow my brush strokes...which would then interfere with my ability to create freely. Thank you for asking!

@@BettyFranksArt yes of course, Betty. Is there a way to zoom in post-edit? I've done this once with the editing program shot-cut. Choose a moment when your hand is unobstructed and just zoom in for a minute? Just a thought. No worries, we love your videos zoomed or unzoomed, haha.

Thank you so much for all you're sharing Betty, your palette and your work are amazing 🥰 I am a beginner as abstract painter from Belgium and I love your videos 🙏 I have a question for you. Do you know where i could find, here in europe, a paint with same qualities as Nova? They don't ship outside the USA and Canada and I really like the rendering and the opacity of the tones. Have a great day 😊 Roxane
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome, Roxane! Glad you're enjoying my videos! I'm sorry, I don't know what paints are offered in Europe. If they offer Liquitex or Golden, those are both great paints. Wishing you all the best in finding a paint that you like!

I'm glad you found the video helpful! It's great that you have a FB group. I would suggest looking up videos here on how you can keep it active and generate $. Most folks generate dollars by offering courses. I don't have a FB group, so I'm not able to offer you advice from personal experience, but I know there's tons of good advice out there. Wishing you tons of success!

Hi Betty! Thanks for the great info. I would love to know how you sorted out shipping internationally. I'm not sure where to begin.....
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Becca! Shipping is always a tough one to tackle! After years of experience, I am finally able to estimate shipping within the US pretty easily, but overseas is still a challenge. What I do for my art going overseas is I estimate the size of the box (or tube), the weight, and then using the buyers address, I can enter the information using either FedEx or USPS. The smaller ones on paper (flat, rigid envelope) to via USPS and the larger pieces go via FedEx. Once it's a go with the buyer, I get a FedEx agent online to help walk me through the customs paperwork. There's a lot! Wishing you all the best with shipping!

@@BettyFranksArt Hi Betty! That makes total sense. Thanks for sharing. International shipping has been a big question mark for me and I wasn't sure where to start. Now I have a direction. Thanks for the info - I very much appreciate it!

Hi Betty. Just found you a week ago or so and very happy I did! The videos I've watched of yours are so helpful. I have a question with this topic. How valuable do you find youTube? I am on a couple Social Media platforms but have hesitated using YT because I feel a bit shy and unsure with how much it would help me build an audience for my work. TY for sharing your experiences with us. Just an FYI for others. I tried to find my Instagram analytics, called Insights, and you have to have over 100 followers to see the button. :>)

Hi Casey! I'm so happy you found me and my art! Being on different platforms, I believe, is important. I love KZbin because it allows me to share what I know (which I love to do!). I was recently removed from IG and now I'm fighting to get back on it. So, being on FB, Pinterest, FB, and having a healthy email list (over 6k) is keeping me moving forward. Yesterday, I released 21 pieces of art on paper that sold out within 1.5 hours. The release of that collection only went to the folks on my email list. So, again, super important to have an email list and be on several platforms. I hope that helps!

Hi! I have a quick question. What should I do if I am NOT getting the sales/followers for my art on Instagram? I am getting only approx. 8 or so likes and 8 or so comments(all requests to submit the photo to a gallery) I'm trying to be engaging by asking "What should I name my painting?" I list the lowest price & size of the art piece I use a lot of hash tags and I vary them Thanks for any help, Greg
@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, IG has changed a lot since I recorded this video. I would suggest that you look up other videos on YT that are from this year. Honestly, IG seems to be changing monthly. Right now, your best bet is to do reels as much as possible. IG is prioritizing reels over posts (pictures). Wishing you tons of success!

Where should I get a website?
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
Great question! There are so many options out there. I started out on Etsy, then I went to www.artspan.com and then I upgraded to Art Storefronts (where I'm at now). For each of these, I had to setup everything myself, but the support was there. With Art Storefronts, they also give you all the tools to do the marketing with step by step instructions. I hope that helps, Shasta!

Hello, I post my paintings on Instagram and I do get responses from the public. However, on Facebook I just get responses from "friends" and not the public. Is Facebook even worth posting since my paintings are not selling anything?
@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that, Jo. Do you have a FB business account? If not, you may want to create one. And then, join FB groups using your business account. You'll then be able to invite people to your page (when they like your posts in the groups that you join). It's a great way to build up your following. Wishing you all the best!

What do you think about Artspan?
@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda! I used Artspan for a couple of years before upgrading to Art Storefronts. I really liked it because it was super easy to set up my site and checkout cart. And, I really loved that they offered print on demand services. Made it super easy to get print to my customers (without me doing the fulfillment). Plus, the price was just right when I was starting my business.

@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Sherrie! Honestly, IG is changing weekly, so it's almost impossible to keep updating old videos. (I think I'll retire this one!) What I see happening now is not too much different. It's important to use all their methods of posting: single post, carrousel post, stories, and reels. Posts will be seen by more of the folks that follow you, but reels will be seen by more non-followers. It's good to have a combination. I hope that helps!

Very good info here. I have been working very hard trying to get more followers on IG. I post allot, comment back, explore hashtags, vary my images, tell stories, shoot videos, reels and promote pieces by tagging . I still feel like I am not getting results. Not sure why. I feel very frustrated, and this year has been decidedly insane. I have won awards, been on juries, and usually do between 15-25 shows a year. I watch you tube videos, research and have studied marketing. I am signed up for 4 art festivals this year, ( Sausalito just cancelled...) and I have no idea what to expect. Thanks for you effort in info.. EileenPGoldenberg/Goldenberg Designs. Btw I also create abstract painting, I use encaustic.

Hi Eileen! IG can be so frustrating at times. I always have high and lows in terms of reach, likes, comments, etc. It seems to go in waves (weeks of bad then a couple of weeks of good). I just keep plugging away. Too bad Sausalito was cancelled. With California opening up fully again in June, I would think they would keep the show this year. Wishing you great success at the others!

I think hashtags are important, but also posting on a regular basis. IG has many different ways that it serves up your images. You'll want to also use as many features as possible: stories, IGTV, reels, IG LIVE. I hope that helps!
