They are everywhere and the penmanship is the SAME, even the red and black marker colors. Southern CA: Pasadena, Carson, Lynwood, South L.A. You'll find them at freeway on/off ramps with a bunch of small kids in tow or simply with the poster stating donations for either illness or funeral services. Mostly are foreigners; nationals from Yemen, Romania, Africa and also some local thugs here and there. Go to any of these cities and you'll find them. Law enforcement has been called on them for collecting money on a false pretense and they do absolutely nothing. It's absolutely aggravating that they pull on ppl's heartstrings to steal money.

My wife and I made up bags for homeless people that had things like pop off top canned food, water, toothbrushes, etc. The real homeless people were super appreciative. The scammers turned their noses up at it and demanded money instead. Scammers are among the lowest of the low dregs of society.

Having family members that were formerly homeless, I understand a little about it. A large percentage elect to only play by their rules and choose to remain homeless, while others put in very little effort to get out of it. One size doesn't fit all when it comes to homelessness. There a percentage that is honestly doing their best, but many are not.

Went into a McDonalds in Vegas several years ago. On my way in, I was stopped by a young woman who told me "I'm hungry and I don't want money. Can you please buy me a hamburger?". A few years ago, whenever I saw someone with a “will work for food sign” I asked if they could help “paint my shed/clean out my yard/move some furniture/etc” and NOBODY ever accepted! I worked in the funeral industry for 23 years. Yes, this is absolutely a scam. And as a side note: when we knew there was going to be gypsy funeral, we would go through the funeral home ahead of time and put away anything of value. Otherwise, it would disappear. The thing is, these people don't consider stealing, "stealing." They see stealing as a form of long term borrowing or self gifting. Its cultural and they have no moral issue with it.

We got funeral scams in FL. They sit on the median of busy highways. Its always the same poster, same picture of some dude and day-in & day-out for months at a time. Similar scam at my work. A family of Gypsy had the family sitting outside of a grocery store and asking for food and money and a customer gave the family a cart of over $200 of groceries and the lady got mad and threw all the good food in the dumpster. I used to be a manager of a hotel in a well known chain; and this was not a cheap hotel. We had a band of gypsies that would check in for a couple weeks every 1-2 years and scam people with this malarkey; same group every time except their kids would be a little bigger each time. They would complain about everything, and company policy is that any guest who complains MUST be given a discount. When they finally decide it's time to go they will call corporate and file a bunch of BS complaints; talking about how filthy the rooms were, bedbugs, staff was rude and condescending etc. When they'd come to the desk to check out I'd get an earful about how horrible everything was. I'd offer up a discount but that wasn't good enough, they didn't believe they should have to pay anything because it was so bad. They would literally ring up a $13,000 bill, and I even went as far as offering a discount of 90%, but that wasn't good enough. Then they'd get back on the phone and bitch to customer support yet again. A few moments after they hang up with customer support the front desk phone would ring and it would be customer support telling me to go ahead and comp the entire bill. Used to make me so mad that they let them steal from my hotel like that, and to do it over and over again. If the service is always so bad why do they keep coming back? I just can't stand people who scam their way through life at the expense of others.

They do this in California too with the funeral scam. I confronted them not too long ago about how they somehow didn’t have a funeral for like 5 months and they got pissed and ran away. I am Romanian and I feel ashamed about the situation that just happened with those gypsies. I am not a gypsy, but I can say that most of them travel well across Europe to run most of the scams you have mentioned... try not to get involved in their actions because they could stab you at some point.... the first thing to do is to call the cops when you see them... because for sure most of their visas have expired and they could have bad records in their background... try your best to send them back home. And that lady cursed you, saying 'go fuck yourself

I see this constantly out here in the Palm Springs area. Originally I thought “nobody would would be so shameless to make something like this up!” I’m in my 30’s and I’ve been battling stage 4 cancer for almost four years now. The first time I saw this scam I gave them $50 from my paltry disability income (which I can barely live off of!). When I saw them again two weeks later on my way to chemotherapy I felt betrayed and jaded.

I came from an ATM booth by a hospital to find a woman waiting by the door in a nursing uniform. She said she had an infant at home and was in need of food, milk and diapers. She wanted me to give her $100. I told her not in cash but to tell me what size and type formula she wants I would be happy to get it for her and bring it back. She screamed at me, cussed me out and started throwing lawn debris at me and my car.

Thank you for exposing them ! I won't feel bad about not giving anything . I've seen this before in different cities around Los Angeles , California . I got suckered once and it won't happen again . Funny thing too , if a child died ! Why wasn't there any tears ? I would be totally heartbroken and full of tears if my child just died . These people ruin it for the people who truly need help . It makes me angry to know these kind of people are out all over the streets . I've seen families and their kids doing the same thing . Again no one was crying ! That's awesome that someone like you would truly help in a situation like this . Keep up the good work !

Even if people are asking for money for a real funeral, just remember 🧐 Funerals are for the living. The dead are dead. They have nothing to worry about anymore and funeral homes and cemeteries take advantage of the grieving but these services are truly unnecessary. If a family can’t afford a funeral, they simply can’t afford a funeral. We as a society have been endocrine to think we somehow care less for our loved ones if we don’t get ourselves into debt for the dead.
