I had my first ego death experience back around 1992, it knocked me on my butt. I was still in high school, I went out and bought the Tibetan Book of the Dead (the version by Timothy Leary and Ralph metzner) and learned about set and setting, ego, bardos Etc. A lot of these things do matter, but most of all it's your state of mind and your intention. Keep your intention from the heart, and do your part we're all here together. Just don't get sucked into the idea that ego is your enemy, nature wants to have independent thinkers, that's why we exist to shine our own light. There's a fine line between ego and narcissism

Just turning on the Your Mate Tom podcast at work is sometimes the only thing getting me through some of these days. Much love ❤️

Yes my friend, well said. The ego is necessary for survival and a part of being human but in todays society our ego drowns out the voice of our intuition.

Reckon it does take a fair bit of attempted understanding and incorporation to reach a bonifide "ego death" (never was a fan of that term; more like awe or personal apocalypse, but I digress). But I will say that the experience made everything prior to that feel like the tutorial that put me at the point to BEGIN living life and owning the responsibilities that this body and this mind has at this point in the continuim of history. As if you can't entirely know who you are until everything is raptured away from you and only ___ remains. Whole system flush and you build from there with no excuses left. How are you going to carry on with your limited time? Honestly and earnestly or cowardly and destructivly? Life's full of surprises and God works in mysterious ways. Well said Tom, thanks for speaking your mind on the other side of the globe. Best of luck.

Thank you for your video man. I had an ego death when I was 15. It made me both believe in something greater, but also made me suffer greatly in many forms in my life. I have found my identity, questioned my own validity of who I am. I still don't have an answer. It seems like society just won't ever except me for who I am. It's brought me to a crosswords where I have to chose to just forget and abandon society, or to adjust and change to fit in with them. I'm 26 now. Im really trying so hard to just be able to exist. It honestly even hurts to type this. Because the pain that it makes me feel to not be accepted by anyone or understood, is so beyond painful. I wish I could even describe why. But I'll give the short and it's that I'm gay. I'm not a serial killer or nothing that actually warrants the way I'm being treated in my view. I am actually lost. I have everything, I have talent, smarts, I work hard, I treat others as nicely and fairly as I can, I do all these things and it's never good enough. I produce my own music, I stay away from hard drugs. I even recently completely got off the antidepressants. I still take kratom, very low around 4 grams a day or less (I used to take 6 but went down). Other than all that I eat as healthy as I can. I take vitamins, I workout. Everything. I guess all I can do from this point is try to take the advice you are giving. Thank you so much for you video man.

"The point isn't to deny our Egos, but to extricate ourselves from our exclusive preoccupation with them. The ego is a tool. You don't separate it. It's a tool for the spirit. The Ego is an exquisite instrument. Enjoy it, use it --- just don't get lost in it. One of the ego's favorite paths of resistance is to fill you with doubt. It's very different because the Indians live as if they are their souls and Americans live as if they are their egos. These are planes of consciousness, and I think human beings exist on two planes of consciousness, the soul and the ego. Most of us are convinced that we are our egos, which is who we think we are. The ego is part of our incarnation. It dies with the body, which is why we are so afraid of death. Death scares the hell out of who you think you are, especially if you think you are this body. Spiritual practices help us move from identifying with the ego to identifying with the soul. Old age does that for you too. It spiritualizes people naturally." Ram Dass

True enlightenment is when you realize being enlightened is not going to make your life better, that you’re not going to avoid suffering more than the common man. Being enlightened has its own kind of suffering that is probably equal to the suffering of the common man.

Tried to get on board with all of this ego death stuff but it never set right with me. Maybe it's because of where and when I was born but I've always valued my individuality, and what is the ego if not my sense of self as being different from others. Yeah sure I know all are one and everything comes from the same source and the ego is eternally changing but I don't think that makes it less real or something which we should do away with. Ego brings variety and variety is awesome. Like you said it's when the ego gets out of control that we have an issue. The ego is a creation and I don't think it should be tossed aside.

I wonder if narcissists can be cured with psykedelics. they are stuck in this childlike state of mind with no empathy and insight.totally inprisoned by their own ego cos often due to childhood trauma they left their true self/soul as a coping mechanism.in the lack of this true self they need supply and validations all the time. just a regular mushroom trip could put them in contact with true self/higher self wich I feel is connected with something beyond.god one can say.
@reileytaylor44507 ай бұрын
ive takin mushrooms quite a few times but my last trip ended horribly and kept asking myself like "who am i", " am i real?" "is any of this real" and for the 9 months after that trip i felt like a completely different person like the old me just disappeared and was left behind to never be found again. i still feel this way. i want to do them again but im afraid this will happen again as i go insane again. is this ego death?

Ego deaths lead me to realize that i am nothing and am in control of nothing. God is sovereign. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only answer to the death of the ego. “Take up your cross deny yourself and follow me- in the world you will have trouble, but fear not, i have overcome the world” Jesus- God in the flesh

You don’t need to mess around with these experiences when you can have a relationship with god through Jesus Christ. I say this from experience my brothers and sisters. I used to mess around with psychedelics and Buddhist literature among other things, but the moment I began listening to some bible verses one night as a non believer my life changed over a matter of days and I felt the Holy Spirit manifest onto me. Many miracles occurred after this and I started to really, truly become a better person because the spirit of god was leading me to a more righteous life by the day. I feel the spirit move when I pray. Jesus is the son of god who didn’t come to earth just to make a bad person good. He came to earth to make a dead person an alive one. That’s real, and I realised the truth of the gospel in a matter of moments when I was listening to a video about the resurrection of Christ a couple of days after my deep encounter with the word of god. Tears flooded to my eyes and I felt a strong love for Jesus all of a sudden. Those who seek him find him my brothers and sisters. The psychedelic lifestyle only leads to more confusion and isn’t a proactive method for overcoming sinful tendencies. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
