I'm turning 32 years old here shortly, seeing this was pure nostalgic and brought back my best childhood memories from 1996/97. I remember LEGO had the wild west, UFO, Pirates, and Submarine sets during this time period. I remember seeing catalogs of this set going for $99.99 USD in 1996-97. Back then, 100 dollars was alot. Gasoline was under a dollar a gallon, minimum wage was alot less then too.... so 100 dollars was alot then. Thank you for this video

@spacelube5845
@spacelube5845 3 жыл бұрын
Low detail is ok because the appeal Lego has is to be simple. You could argue that now the complex pieces allow better and more detailed toys, but we all fell in love with the simple stuff that made us take play beyong the main build. Now most people don´t dare to alter anything about new models, my Star Wars collection is proof of that.

I think LEGO has increased their sales largely by selling more toys to kids who aren't really interested in the construction/MOC side. As a result, no thought is given to designing sets as something a kid might want to take apart and build into something else. Modern LEGO designs are so sophisticated that few kids building a set will feel empowered to build their own creations using the same design language. Even in the 90s when sets had lots of huge and specialized pieces, the way things went together was easy to understand and imitate.

The way I see the card game thing, the sheriff would "challenge" bandits they were bringing in to a game, and would drop them into a cell. If the bandits were armed, he'd drop himself to the lower floor to call for reinforcements from around the fort.

My favorite lego set of all time. So much room for play space and to add more stuff. I had a few other western sets I combined with it to make it even more lively. Can’t say detail was a big deal to me as a kid. Having more space to put people and create scenes were so much more important. Still have it complete with the box (2002 rerelease version, but close enough).

My cousin had this set when I was little, amongst several other classic sets from the 90's to early 00's. I would only ever get to visit once a year during Easter, so the rare times I got to fiddle with those sets in my great aunt's partially furnished basement evoked a special feeling in me that I always associate with that time. Sometimes I catch a whiff of a smell that reminds me of that basement and it takes me right back to 2004. Back to classic Lego sets, first wave Bionicle posters, Power Ranger toys, 1/6th scale action figures, a mini combo CRT TV/VCR hooked up to an NES or N64, a computer running Windows 98 with an installation of Lego Island... good times.

I received this set for my birthday in the late 90s and I really enjoyed it. Up until a couple years ago I still had the whole set with the original box. Unfortunately there was a fire at the house where the set was and it did not survive. Nobody was hurt in the fire which is the most important thing. It was still disappointed that I had lost a part of my childhood that I had been saving.

I like the big open spaces! It's great with interior details and more modern building tequnics, but the aspect of having hollow and unused space to use in all the ways of imagination and play is something Lego should look more back to. It's a great playset!
@evo_is_confused
@evo_is_confused 4 жыл бұрын
It's interesting seeing this. I feel like a lesson can be learned. We don't need as much detail as we recieve I don't think. This set is a good set by today's standards in my opinion. I think detail shouldn't take the forefront as much because a huge fort with lots of space will always trump a small fort with lots of interior.
@Lordodragonss
@Lordodragonss 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Lego is overdesigning so many sets nowadays
@TheRightPart
@TheRightPart 4 жыл бұрын
Disagree. Detail should always take the forefront as that is what makes a set unique. There are only so many ways you can build an under-detailed wood wall without it looking stale. Fort Legorado is revered because it was one-of-a-kind (and because of nostalgia). But imagine if there were two, three more similar forts. Then it would just seem repetitive. Detail is what keeps sets fresh. Instead of three wooden forts with walls all constructed out of big, ugly wood panels, you can have one with a cosy interior, another with SNOT cobblestone etc.

Always wanted this set growing up. My friend had it and I always came over just to see it.

Maybe those parrots represent eagles, as they don't have a mold for that one

What a legendary set, so be able to customise and build upon us much better then added detail. Back in the day Lego encouraged that. I have this set and I remember adding all sorts of other toys, like Dinosaurs in the fort.

love this set and great review!... bought it now as an adult too, after a while i upgraded it with 32x32 baseplate in the middle and added more details (tent, additional cannon etc.)

Yet another GREAT review Jang!!! This set definitely would not flizeye in this day and age!!! Still is an awesome set! All that space in the center is actually great for a kid. This is an actual fully enclosed build and therefore it allows that center area to be a court yard of sorts. Just a great toy fort for playing with! Definitely not a display model. But hell, Lego wasn't really catering to the A.F.O.L. communities then. So really for what this set is designed for, it is perfect i.m.h.o. for sure. Keep up the great work JANG!!!! Cheers!
