What a BRILLIANT tutorial! A few months ago I looked for a thorough introduction to curves in Blender, and couldn't find one. And then I found your tutorial. It's super-easy to follow, and introduces the viewer to very powerful, subtle tools for controlling curves. A thousand thanks for taking the time to make and post this. With greetings from Cape Town!

Some people complain that I use Blender's light theme, but things like bezier curves just show up better in it for tutorial purposes so that's what I use, But yes, for this first bezier tut I did indeed change the color for that reason.

Yes, I could. In my tutorial, "Modeling for Beginners" (the one with the lipstick), I use bezier curves for the construction of part of the model in case you want to see their use as integrated into the modeling process.

Thanks. Blender has very limited curve editing possibilities and it's been like that for many years. Let's hope some day this shortcoming will be a history and we will have a whole vector editing app inside Blender so we can draw full-blown vector art.

If you know you are going to create a symmetrical shape, you can use a Mirror Modifier rather than duplicating and joining your curve. It will copy the Curve Type, so the Vector "curves" will remain low poly even if you later decide to Apply the modifier and modify each axis individually.

im trying to build a 2d layout of a guitar and then make it 3d. My bezier curves do not stay 0* on the z axis and it creates different heights on my curves. How do i zero out the z axis so it will remain on the same plane while i build my initial layout?

Watch my video on the Curve Pen Tool that was added after this video was made, it allows for more immediate editing like you describe. But there is a benefit to this method because it allows you to select multiple curve elements and operate on them as a unit. But yes, I know it's a lot of clicking. Use the Curve Pen Tool instead.

If you select a point, and then switch to the Move tool on the left hand side tool bar, then you'll see a widget appear. I'm guessing it was one of the handle components. The blue box is the Z-grid planar move component.

I start to feel like i may be just totally dumb. I follow so many tutorials, and always fail right at the beginning because it doesn't work. In this case, when i click Add Curves - Bezier, nothing happens, no curve shows up, none that i can edit, simply nothing. The shortcuts don't do what they should even tho i never changed anything about them, im getting frustrated
@christopher3d475
@christopher3d475 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I get the frustration. The first thing to do is look in the Outliner and see if something has been entered there. The second thing to do is do another Add -> Bezier Curve operation, then immediately do a View -> Fit View to Selected. Or press Tab as soon as you add so handles become visible.
