Looking for an espresso machine that is reliable and not too expensive checked out a few brands and I'm focusing on the Bezzera which I will buy next week! Thanks for your video.

does the water reservoir get hot when the machine is in use? I noticed it looked steamy in the back when the machine is warmed up.

Great video! I have the same machine, and I'm very happy with it. It does have two drawbacks however, that make me want ti upgrade. 1. The excess water ejection spout sprays water into the tray with a blast, which jeopardises the electronic scales (I solved this by printing an external exhaust pipe). 2. The pressure is too high, and not easily adjusted. The temperature can't be adjusted at all. This means you are stuck with a very specific amount of ground coffee you can use to get great results. In my case, 16g. Less than that, I must grind finer, bit since the pressure is too high the puck breaks, and the coffee is both over and underextracted at the same time... But if a double shot is what you always want (like in my case), the machine provides great value for the money.

Thanks! Can 1 be related to the high pressure? I opened my machine and adjusted the pressure valve, so that it gives me 9 bars consistently. Before that I had trouble pulling good shots. I somehow use 18 g, and find that gives me the best, rich shots.

@@DeHobbyBarista It is definitely related to the high pressure. I'm not sure how to adjust the pressure, though. Can you please make a video to show how to do that? What was the initial pressure in your machine? The manometer on my machine vibrates really hard around 12 bar. I think it's defective (because of the vibrations).

@@orikolp9379 Mine was set at 11 if I recall correctly. I opened the machine and used these images as a guide: support.clivecoffee.com/en/bezzera-bz10-expansion-valve-adjustment It was my first time adjusting the OPV on any machine, so if I can do it anybody can ;) I hope you get the same result as me, pouring good shots consistently was no problem after that Let me know if you have any questions!

Think in your case you might want to upgrade to a dual boiler with flow control. Any E61 machine you can get aftermarket kits for it or some manufacturers offer it installed from the factory. That is what I did, not only does it allow me to pressure profile but it can correct what would otherwise be a terrible shot.

@@jhomrich89 I'm not sure I want an E61 group. I'm trying to decide between a lever machine to a Decent. The latter can do lever profile (among tons of others) but is muy expensive..

I am considering this machine as an upgrade from my single boiler machine. It's a pity that it doesn't have a PID like the BZ07. Have you been able to measure the brew water temperature in the portafilter, with a Scace or just a thermocouple device? Seeing as these BZ brew heads are electrically heated, they must have some sort of temperature control of these heaters?
@DeHobbyBarista
@DeHobbyBarista Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's definitely a pity and a PID would be a great upgrade. I never measured it, but I try to be consistent in warm up time. And I always flush a bit of hot water to warm up my cup. I am not the most experienced taster, but the espresso taste is very consistent to me

I use one made by WeighJo (bought this one because it looks clean and was very affordable) , the brand does not really matter in my opinion. As long as it has a weight and timer function. So we can track the weight and brew time at the same time

hello my bezzera in each espresso barely reaches 6 bars of pressure on the pressure gauge, the coffees come out of more than two ounces ... is the bars related to the amount of water they release?
@DeHobbyBarista
@DeHobbyBarista 3 жыл бұрын
The amount of pressure is related to a lot of factors. Could be that the OPV is set too tight/loose. In the beginning my pressure gauge would display 10 bars, I adjusted the OPV by loosening it a bit. Until the gauge displayed 9 bars. This really improved my shots. Maybe this page can help www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/proper-way-adjusting-brew-pressure-in-espresso-machine-with-vibe-pump-t67459.html
@davidelfstrom9008

The machine is factory set to perform as it should. All else is determined by grind size, or dose size or basket size. I found a IMS basket helps the flow and allows for a better tamp. The grind also is a major contributor. A finer grind will help increase the pressure but not to over do it because you want the water to extract from the grind. Nail the 18g, in the right basket, with the proper grind, and your gauge should be at that 9-10 bar mark you are in for a fantastic cup. The temp should be at its mark when brewing.

Brilliant video! Is that screw on the shower screen the same one as from Rancilio? I noticed the head of that screw is a bit thicker, do you have to under-dose so it doesn't dig into your puck?
@DeHobbyBarista

Thanks! Yes, you're right, it's the Rancilio version which has a thicker screw. So it might be good to under-dose it a bit, or use a bigger basket (which I do)

Whats brew pressure (11 or 12 bar) was the machine was setted up from factory? My BZ10 is about 11 and 11.5 bar in shots. With blind basket almost rises to 12 bar. I tried to lower the pressure (10 to 10.5 bar) via the OPV valve but the pump started to make squaeking noises. Any ideas?

That's a tidy machine. The water in the boiler doesn't change except when replenishing steam or water from the hot water tap so maybe your water will taste better out of the hot water tap if you use the tap more -- I like to super-heat my cups using the water tap so the water gets exchanged more frequently. Also, water conditioning may have an impact (filtered water). I wish they put a tapped hole in the brew head so you could add a temperature sensor or pressure gauge.

When you say the shots are “less full”, than the E61 grouphead, are you in other words saying the shots have “less body”? Thanks for your observations!
@DeHobbyBarista
@DeHobbyBarista 3 жыл бұрын
Good question, yes! I am referring to the mouth feel of the espresso. It seems that the E61 espressos tend to be more full-bodied, whereas the Bezzera espresso tends to have a bit more clarity. The preparation of the espresso plays a very big role in this, so the difference might be very little. I've used both and still experience the Bezzera shots as full-bodied. But I had to work for it a bit more ;)

Hey! Do you recommend getting a specific filter basket for the BZ 10? Some people in the HomeBarista forum recommended getting a bigger basket (20/22) and underdosing it? Does the screw from the shower screen touch the puck? Which dose are you using atm?
