Thank you! Our women's group at church did your Bible study and I have been making changes to my diet. I no longer drink sugary drinks and am eating more vegetables. Over-eating, especially the wrong foods, certainly leads to disease, like heart disease, fatty liver, diabetes/insulin resistance, kidney disease, Alzheimer’s/dementia, arthritis, cataracts, & other degenerative & auto immune diseases. Thanks for all your great advice. May God keep blessing you. 🙏🏼

I water fast at least 24 hours every week, some weeks 48 hours, and some 72 hours. I’m not on any medication, and I always eat a very low carb/keto/carnivore diet when not fasting. Since having breast cancer 6years ago, I’ve done a deep dive into the science of the optimal way of eating for my health to prevent hearing those words ever again. 🙏🏼 When you fast, your body switches fuels from glucose to ketones- which then starts fat burning and is also a huge benefit to your brain (increasing BDNF). You definitely do need to add salt to your water daily for electrolytes to prevent cramping, and dehydration because our cells cannot absorb water when our body flushes out the salt. But every one that does a ketogenic or carnivore diet understands that salt/electrolytes are essential. When you don’t eat carbs you reduce inflammation- that is the initial flush of water weight most people lose. Carbo-hydrates hydrate the body. I believe God made our bodies to be able to use the state of ketosis for healing. Did you know that babies are in ketosis when they are nursing because the ketones help their brains to continue to form. I use the fasting state to create autophagy in my body to get rid of wayward cells. So much good information you can learn from from Dr. Bikman, Dr. Annette Bosworth, Dr. Paul Mason, Dr. D’Agostino etc. God bless.

Good warnings ! As a retired dietitian I would not do a water fast. When I was younger and in good health and no illness I would do a three day fast with liquid electrolytes. I did it for prayer and not for weight control. To loose 10 lbs in one year drop one 100 calories per day habit. Once I cut a fruit portion in half . 1 pound is 3500 calories.

👍Thank you very much Doc for commenting on this matter. Knowing one's body and medical issues is so very important. I just started an intermittent fasting routine and in just a week I have noticed in a good way a difference in my spiritual, mental and physical state of mind. I want to lose only 10 to 15 lbs so the intermittent fast is the way to go for me along with my workout routine. God Bless and keep up the good work. ☺

Overeating is a disease? I guess we cannot stop putting too much food or the wrong foods in our faces. Intermittent fasting is not fasting from processed foods. You should never eat processed foods. It is fasting (no solid food) during a fasting window every day. So you might be eating 2 meals a day instead of 3. Or one meal a day (OMAD). This is done for health benefits, not to lose weight. You do lose weight but that is a natural byproduct of eating healthier. You are correct we should never stop taking vitamins and electrolytes every day.
