Hi I am stuck on Configuring the gateway as it's keep on giving me error: "The requested operation cannot be completed. The Computer must be trusted for delegation and the current user account must be configured to allow delegation." Can you or any other expert help me? My user account have all administrative rights using Windows SERVER 2012. I had previously installed this and was working fine. Day before yesterday i have updated the Gateway software to newer version and it stopped working, had to uninstall and tried reinstalling but failed so now installing older version and getting the above mentioned error. it seems the gw needs tcp port 443 however, it also mentions 5671-5672 and 9350-9354. Does it need those ports opened?

Hi Rohan, To connect with the VM, you need the Server Name, user name and passwords. Also, if you have your own VM, you can connect via Microsoft Remote Desktop App. There are several videos online for it.

I have few questions: I have created and published one report in Power BI Service, by data source is SQL Server and I can easily do the schedule refresh without creating any gateway. iIn the Data Gateway Connection it is showing: "You don't need a gateway for this dataset, because all of its data sources are in the cloud, but you can use a gateway for enhanced control over how you connect. ". what does this mean? when do I need a gateway, in your example too you have connected with SQL Server but still you needed a gateway. When the gateway is actually needed because in my case I don't have any gateway still I can schedule refresh my dataset?

It's because you are using cloud-based "SQL Server" which means Azure SQL DB. Your database is no on-premise-based.

First, the machine should always be where your data gateway has been installed. Secondly, you connect data gateway on Power BI Service, not on Power BI Desktop, so there should be a proper authentication method.

yes sir, no matter which mode you are using. If your data source is on-premise or private network, you need to use a power bi data gateway.

scheduled refresh is not working only if the system in which gateway is installed is shutdown state all sources are in online.

It should run 24x7 hours. That's why I always encourage people to use a cloud based server. If your application is not running, then you cannot see the results. Here, I am talking about application as Power BI Data Gateway. If machine is shut down, how will it work?

Lastly, you can switch it on or off if you want. However, it should be on at the time of schedule refresh. If your server is off, then no matter what automation you have planned, nothing would work irrespective of Power BI Gateway

Unfortunately, you won't get any email about credential expiration as this has to do with your AAD (Azure Active Directory). You use your official credentials so you'll get email from your O365 side not Gateway side. So, you need to connect with you O365 admin.

Thanks for your question. Power BI Data Gateway has nothing to do with your license. You can use it with any kind of license. You need a license to share the content such as reports.

Hi, thanks for your comment/feedback. While installing Power BI Data Gateway, kindly following the following best practices: 1) Install Power BI Data Gateway as close as possible to the Data Source. 2) Installation must be done on a machine that is 24/7 hours online. For example Virtual Machines or on a cloud server. I hope this would help you. Good luck!

Have you already installed the gateway? If yes, then please make sure to start the machine where it’s installed and restart the gateway if required. Now, go to Power BI Service and go to the gateway management tab (Click on top hand right side, where admin portal options appears). There you can add a new connection and you’ll get the option.

Thanks for your question. I believe you have installed Power BI Data Gateway on your own system which I never recommend. You should install it on your organizations server which is 24X7 hours available. That would be always on companies VPN Or private network. When you installed on your machine then it needs to authenticate your machine against organizations network. Once your VPN is connected, only then this would work, otherwise it won't due to security concerns. I hope I am able to answer your question. Ask someone to publish the report who has the access. Only Admin (who would publish the report/dataset) needs to have access, not the consumer. Only one access required. Also, if none of the admins have access, then, unfortunately, it's not possible.
