Daveleindrummerboy said that this is the greatest pop song of the last half of the 20th century and I think he may just be right about that ! Of course there are so many great songs, tunes and melodies that were sent out in the world the last half a century and it is true that a thousand people will choose a thousand different best songs. However, there is something about this particular song that seperates it from other pop/rock songs by orders of magnitude. (I wish I could express myself better since english is not my first language, but let me give it my best shot. ) Maybe it can be ascribed to the structure and composition of the song, that famous "wall of sound" but also finding an almost perfect balance between a solid rock sound and a good melody, a tune that sprouts roots in your brain and makes you whistle it all day. Maybe it is in the way the musicians found each other and their contributions fit together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Needless to say, the sound engineer had no small part to play in this musical masterpiece. This song could, in visual terms, be compared to a painting from Da Vinci or Ingres- sheer perfection.

I'm embarrassed to be American when I think how GREAT Big Country was & how most of my fellow Americans missed the genius of this band. I never wanted to be Scottish as much as I did until I heard this music.

Why on earth would the producers have asked them to get up on stage and PRETEND to perform? No wonder they look pissed.
