Biggest Block to INFJ Intuition

INFJ personality types are one of the most highly intuitive personality types in the MBTI personality type system. Many INFJ personality types experience intuition naturally. It’s an ability they don’t need to work at or push toward, because it subtly arises whenever they are faced with major and minor life decisions. But for other INFJ personality types, intuition can remain elusive and difficult to pinpoint, leaving them confused as to which direction to take in life.
INFJ personality types who are struggling with intuition are usually struggling with overthinking and worrying too much about the outcome of different situations. When they anticipate a situation unfolding in a way that does not end in the outcome they desire, they become nervous and feel panicked. This is because their security center is triggered by feeling uncertainty about the future.
The key to working with INFJ intuition is to understand that following intuition will often trigger the security center and that this isn’t necessarily an indicator that something is actually wrong. Much of the time, we can’t have it both ways when it comes to following our intuition and feeling secure about an exact outcome we want to happen in the future. Intuition naturally involves risk, and if we try to avoid risk at all costs in order to soothe our security center, we will end up blocking our intuition and nothing will get through to us. To connect more deeply with our INFJ intuition, we must accept that our security center may be triggered and move ahead with following our intuition anyway, in spite of the fear or other uncomfortable feelings we may experience.

Stress, anger, depression, and other distractions are intuitive blocks. Intuition is a whisper that you need to quietly listen for.

Understood. It's not necessary to worry about the future too much. You are a good learner so you can learn from mistakes. Making a mistake is just a part of the learning process.

Fear screams loudly in the front of my head when it panics. But sometimes it disguises itself as what's "sensible." Intuition whispers to me to encourage exploration. Oh yeah, also I'm 10k words into my book!

My intuition doesn't really act as a motivator like that, it acts more as a warning than anything else. It tends to serve me best by assessing integrity in others. Even when I have no evidence of dishonesty, I will still get a sense that someone feels unsafe to me. I used to ignore it because I didn't know it was intuition, I thought it was just underlying anxiety or insecurity or something, but that landed me in a relationship with a narcissist!. Once I started heeding that sense of danger, I was actually able to let go of the mistrust and fear I was carrying with me and I stopped having to maintain an exhausting hypervigilance to protect myself.

Usually when we reference a specific cognitive function it's one that we have in our top four cognitive functions The SI is your eighth function and for us mostly what it does is lets us hold on to bad memories and makes us bad at taking care of ourselves like sleeping right drinking enough water and eating regularly like we should.

@@mokari9268 I don't mean to butt in where I don't belong, but I will because I think it's important. Where and when and how many times did you test for Your type? Also, I happen to be a trained type indicator and I think it's important that if Typology is important to you, that you're getting the right information for your type. I won't charge a dime and if you know yourself well, I can type you in 6 questions.

When my narcissistic parent wanted me to become a narc as well, he encouraged me to talk to people. So when my intuition is telling me to do something, it is like this big inside anxiety like the one before one big exam. Before executing it, I say to myself if it gets bizarre, at least I will be able to say some funny past stories of myself, to my grandchildren (if one day I have kids by myself. If not to neighbours children) kids love those unusual stories. Of course when I finally lived the situation, my intuition put me through; I analyse it. After all I'm an INFJ.

I guess I kind of assumed all INFJs recognize and depended on their intuition or "gut feeling". Mine seems to be in overdrive most of the time, and tends to help warn or steer me away from something negative or not the best choice, as apposed to providing me with the perfect answer, decision or magic combination of numbers.

I recently started doing a lot of shadow work and found a huge passion for it. During meditation I asked for a sign in what my next step should be. The next day a guy came knocking on my door looking for donations for a local sobriety center. I gave him a donation and threw away the pamphlet. Then went rifling through my garbage because everything in my being was screaming at me to call the number to volunteer. I kept overthinking everything about it (if i was seeing things because I wanted to or if this was actually the sign I was looking for.) not to mention the full body anxiety that I'm feeling about it. Needless to say your video highly resonates and giving me the proverbial kick in the ass that I apparently needed.

Thanks Lauren. I'm going through a very challenging time right now and this video helped me remember how to reconnect to my intuition and distinguish it from the anxiety and trauma voices that are so much louder. One thing I can add, and that is often missing with these kinds of talks, is to emphasize that a risk really is a risk. There is no guarantee that it will work out. I've taken a number of risks in my life - some guided by intuition, and some not. Most of them have not worked out well, and while I have learned something each time, I can't say that the learning has paid off or made my next decision a better one. It's important to know that if you take risks you may well fail repeatedly, even as you are learning and growing, and that it is imperative to find a way to make peace with that.

This was great clarification about our INFJ (P) "superpower". I really nodded along as you were talking about how fear (our fear center) is the reason we want to be able to harness our intuition but fear is at the same time a big blocker of our intuition. Since I have become aware of being an "intuitive" I have started to see how that quiet little voice works and you are exactly right about how it guides us to make changes and stretch ourselves. But it does so on its own timetable and not by our prodding. I was brought up to believe that this was the still small voice of God, and maybe it could still be attributed to God by a person of faith, but its more helpful now to see it as within me and ready to help me as I need guidance to make choices...if I will just settle down and listen. Thank you Lauren!

Sorry but I don’t really agree. Connecting with your intuition is not about looking at a crystal ball. It’s about connecting with that still voice that guides you through life. If someone is connecting to their intuition to see the future or to feel safe they’re doing it for the wrong reasons. I’m not sure most people are doing it for that reason.
