Coan out-totaled the #2 total at 220 by more than 14%. Nearly unprecedented across all sports.

I wish I had been interested in this stuff 30 years ago. I joined the Army in 1994. My main focus at that time was passing the APFT (pushups, situps, and run 2 miles).

Matt, I remember sending away for a Scottish power lifting news letter type thing. It came and had all the winners and weiggt classes of who had won the worlds that year. I read the name ED Coen and im sure at that point he was in the heaviest class and I thought wow, he must be one huge guy. Wasn't till years later I learned he was only about 5 6". And it wasn't till a few years after that I learned he had moved up through the weight classes and bested them all. Truly an all time great accross all sports.

Completely agree that people have completely stopped reading articles and books. There's a lot of information out there and some of these videos only scratch the surface and don't even touch the tip of the iceberg. Would've loved this type of community when I was a kid.

When plates were real and comments had to be said to your face. Such a great time.

For you decades I made zero progress. Now with your videos I am starting to figure some things out. So hard to get food, sleep and training right. Its hard to get 2 out 3 nowadays. Just hit a PR in sumo. focusing on potentiation and post-chain. I had no clue. such awesome videos you put out Matt. I am saving up for a reverse hyper hopefully it will fit in the shed door. never tried one.

Matt, I gotta say man I’m sorry you’re having some trouble with the Dr whoohah BS. You have so much to offer and it’s just too easy these days for younger people to follow some jackleg with a loud and boisterous personality with little to nothing valuable to teach people. It suck that that is what you are up against. I tell everyone of my clients and friends to listen to you. I hope you keep on keeping on and get more recognition for the value you offer. Thanks, you’ve helped me tremendously.

This was also before video of high multiply squats and questionable bench presses started to flood the internet posing serious questions on the validity of all time records. There were still a few lifters who adhered to standards, like Chuck and Brent Mikesell, but too many other big lifts were absolute garbage.

On the whole I agree especially in multiply

Because antidoping was incredibly far away to find 90% of the substances that people used. Same thing in pretty all the other sports 😂

Well....ahh for most of us Gen Xers yeah the 90s were awesome: Better music, TV, humor, no smart devices consuming us. Yeah i miss thoes days😢 Oh and also, the Grimmwoods were super popular in the 90s powerlifting world. The Grimmwood Powerplant was the best in PA in the 90s.
