My husband was really clear that he was worried when I started lifting as he didn’t want me to be big and bulky. One year of hard work later and 4 around of MAPS Anabolic, he actually said last week that he finds my sculpted back really sexy. I am about to go on a cut for a beach vacation and can’t wait for him to see all of my hard work! 😊

Sal, your advise to the second caller brought me to tears. My relationship with myself and with food has been so dysfunctional all my life. I'm almost 52, perimenopausal, struggling with weightgain and Ive just been diagnosed with Lupus about 2 years ago. Trying so hard to build some muscle and not gain weight but also trying to heal my body with nutrition feels like climbing Mount Everest some days. Your advise to her was just so moving, it was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you ❤

Omg i fell into this trap and trained within higher reps range for few years. After starting to listen to you guys recently i switched to low reps (3-6) and my body alongside strength changed so dramatically in a matter of weeks that i would never dream of. Even people at the gym are shocked with my progress. Ladies, dont be afraid, lift heavy and keep grinding💪💪💪

Thanks for this! I'm glad someone is saying this out loud. I was sedentary for 3 years and lost a lot of muscle mass and strength. When I first got back into the gym, I started doing classes and most of the exercises were the "for women" type. That was OK for me for about 2 weeks. Then I realized that if I was going to get stronger, I had to doing some real lifting, so I stopped doing classes and made my own workouts doing heavy lifts. I have gained so much strength since I stopped doing "exercises for women" and started really lifting! I feel like I am making progress. Now I feel like it is my duty in a way to represent the women who lift heavy weights and get strong without looking masculine and to show women who may be "stuck" in these classes what is possible. At the end of the day, whatever gets people in the gym is great, and not everyone goes to the gym for purely physical pursuits, so I think these classes "for women" have their place.

Honestly, guys, those of us in perimenopause could sure use some direction around training. It comes with joint pain, fatigue, cortisol issues, etc. You already know women in this stage of life are the hardest to train. EDIT: I'm not looking for personal advice here. I am only stating this would be an appropriate time to write a women's only program.
@BethVonBlack
@BethVonBlack 10 ай бұрын
I'm perimenopausal and I've not changed my training style. Like, how do you know what your cortisol levels are? I go based on how I feel - stronger some days than others, which is normal for hormonal women. I can only advise that you try and focus on things like sleep quality and nutrition and not so much on 'I'm perimenopausal so this is harder for me' - just optimise what you can and roll with it! x

@@BethVonBlack I train as hard and as heavy 6 days a week as I have done for years. I have my cortisol and hormones tested every 3 months. I sleep as well as I can given my varying shift work. I have gained weight, experienced occasional hot flashes at night, and most recently, continuous joint pain in my knees and elbows for 3 months. All of this is expected and I am happy I continue to live and train as I always have. The idea that there is no appropriate time to create a program for women only ignores this unique phase of life where changes may be needed in training methods to address stress reduction, promote sleep, and facilitate weight loss. The guys have addressed this unique phase several times and have always commented that this is the most difficult client to assess and train. I am suggesting they consider creating a program to help women in this stage of life assess their ever changing situation and how to make adjustments to the training which might benefit them. I certainly feel it would be an appropriate time to market something just to women.

I totally get the red flag about "workouts for women". Personally, I'd love to see MindPump partner with a woman and create a program that is effective specifically for postpartum healing. There are massive amounts of women out there who try to find workout programs once they're postpartum and they waste their time and money on other red-flag programs. I 100% would've purchased a post-partum bundle if you guys had one.

Yes! I've seen those workouts on youtube by women who are stacked, but promoting a 30 minute bicep workout with bands (lol). Now, I'm smart enough to know she does not look that way by doing the workouts she's promoting. It's such bull. When I look for exercises for my own training split, I look to the men. I never take advice from women unless they're competitive body builders!

I appreciate so much that you guys always check in and encourage honesty about callers mental state and their true goals. It has been a great encouragement and reminder since I found your channel a couple months ago. I find myself checking in with myself whenever you ask the questions about relationships with food and why people actually “like” cardio and higher frequency of training. It’s been so helpful to keep myself on track and not overdo it while I’m on the journey.

I love that you guys touched on that women don’t need a separate program. It’s understandable that individuals want to highlight muscle mass growth for their specific physique goals, but that does not mean one should void overall development and strength in fear of that age old adage of “I don’t want to get huge/bulky”. Good luck, for the most part it’s almost impossible to to get ‘massive’ on accident. We should all develop overall strength for at least longevity

I think you should make a program talking about those myths about women in menopause or perimenopause need to train different please … training gets confused with eating … it is the eating that needs to be adjusted in order to control hormones …. Thanks for starting this subject hopefully more women will find the value of strength training

Great episode! I'd like to think that the women in my gym have gone past beyond this whole "heavy lifting = icky bulky muscles" mindset but considering I'm still one of the few women who actually spend most of their time in the free weights section..... it's still very much a thing. :| What's interesting is even in the beginning of my fitness journey I would scoff every time I saw these "workouts for women." It honestly felt like I was being talked down to. Like, "Oh, you're a tiny and weak woman, so we'll give you this really easy workout" LOL.

I will tell them about lifting free weights especially the barbell, but they go right back to the machines and bodyweight squats lol

About 25 years ago, when I was about 20, I had a trainer tell me I only needed to do 30 mins resistance training A WEEK to lose weight. He said I need to do more cardio, but all I thought was why would I go to the gym to do cardio on a treadmill or bike when I could just walk or jog outside for cardio? I wasn't gonna do a class which he suggested - I wonder now if he said the same to the male gym goers. There were even signs around the gym saying that we only needed to do 30 mins resistance a week. I thought it was a way to make no one use their weights, but the weights was why I would go to the gym in the first place 😕😅

I started in fitness when a fitness gal sold workouts and supplements "for women". They were a lot of jumping Jack's and high knees or running in place in between sets of lifting weights, and always the rep range was 15-20 reps all the time, absolutely zero phasing of the workouts! Also, her supplements designed specifically "for women" only has 15g protein per serving, and then she removed the creatine in her later supp formulas.

Excellent episode! I love to listen to the podcast while I’m delivering my mail route. I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with. I’m hoping to get a MAPS program one of these days. I’ve never done an official program before outside of just winging it other than Body Beast from beach body, and I remember the mindpump guys saying that’s a terrible program! But that’s all I’m familiar with outside of doing my own thing. Anyway, I am fairly experienced with lifting dumbbells, but I don’t have a barbell and I don’t have time to go to a gym to access those things, so I can’t do a barbell squat or barbell deadlift. And many of the maps programs have those in it. So my question is, which program would be a great one to jump into (my goals are overall health and aesthetics) and can I get away doing some of those moves with dumbbells? I have all weights from 5 pounds to 75. At some point I will get barbell equipment, maybe next year if I can afford it! Thanks to whoever helps me out with this!

I know you say you don't want to target women and it's honourable of you to stick to your principles and not want to mislead. However, I'm new to your channel and I went to your website to check out your programmes but as a woman I didn't know which would be the one I needed. Many of them seem to be targeted at men. Anabolic says it's a good place to start and yet there's another programme further down the page called Starter with a woman on the graphics. This confused me. Suggestion - could you have an interactive section at the top where the user chooses what their goal is ie weightloss, bodybuilding, etc, what level they're at ie beginner, intermediate or advanced and then the website suggests which programmes would be good for that person? Or maybe it asks the user what programmes they've done and it suggests the next programme to progress on to? Or maybe a chart that shows various starting points depending on goal and what route a user might take through your programmes to get the results they're looking for? This could encourage more sales as they've got a suggested programme to go to next. Or a video that runs through suggested starting points for different people? Or a banner at the top with both men and women with some text to say it's for both sexes so it's clear? At the moment, many of the programmes show only men and so I think women could be put off by that. And would men be put off by the women only shots? I don't know. Could you incorporate women/men photos into all the shots to show it's for both sexes? Perhaps you could have a page for women on your website that makes it clear that it's the same programme, states all you have said in this video and maybe lists all the programmes with women in the graphics instead of men. You could have sections that talk about recommended fitness programmes to take before, during and after pregnancy/menopause and how they could adapt the programme for their needs so it would be a legitimate page for women that gives value. Your marketing guys could then drive traffic to that page. I'm a web designer in my day job and it just occurs to me that a few tweaks to the messaging on your page could encourage people (us girls!) to take that next step and buy. Love your channel 🙂

In Olympic lifting and powerlifting women tend to recover slightly faster than men so women tend to get a little more volume.

I watched a video of a female power lifter in the 44kg class squatting something like 275 pounds. Just this stick figure girl squatting more than most guys, it was insane. The marketing behind women's fitness has just screwed with their heads so much

Been lifting for 10 years off and on, learned to lift heavy in CrossFit. There are so many amazing KZbin channels that I followed to start learned more hypertrophy - but they are all men talking about getting a thick wide back 🤮 I just have to ignore that part and lift the same way anyway.

My girlfriend shows me the nonsense in women's only fitness groups and it is astounding. If you try to say something they attack you😂 it's like reverse trolling.

The cats won't even eat vegan catfood. They would rather run outside and catch mice. My cat won't even eat those crappy artificial snacks made from meat, much less vegan ones

I’m vegan and have a cat. Most vegans aren’t like this. It’s only the extremes. It’s like saying everyone who lift weights promotes steroids.

I’ve been vegan/vegetarian for 10 years and have no deficiencies. Most deficiencies come from meat eaters. My eczema and asthma. I go to gyms all the way from Sacramento to San Jose and I’m pretty strong especially for my height and weight. When I do accidentally eat meat I get sick and throw up. Lol idk what these guys are drinking late at night
