You guys are an awesome team! Love watching others find, cut and cab rocks! Please get Jim to wear a mask while cabbing though. I know you aren't getting that much dust since you have a steady drip of water, but breathing in any rock dust is bad. You want him to continue his lovely work for a long time!
@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Margaret. :) I'll pass your message on - but the reading I've done about the CabKing doesn't recommend masks, as the dust is captured by the water. I would be more worried about the basement dust, tbh! O.O You are 100% right, silicosis is no joke. We do have a HEPA air filter going when not filming.

Love seeing you and Jim keep getting further and further into transforming the beauty created in the earth into shapes and forms that display that beauty. I do have to say I envy you the slab saw right now. I've got a large piece (like toddler head sized) of something in the microcrystalline family, and don't currently have a means of getting into it in a controlled fashion. There is just something about taking a hammer and chisel to a stone that my sensibilities don't like. I think that's the sculptor in me wanting to keep the shapes as large and useful as possible for creating.
@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the local rock club might have a large saw? I agree about the chisel and hammer - I always cringe when I see rocks that have been split open. Thanks for joining us. :)

I must be missing something here. Why strive to find rocks you can see light through, and put them on a plate covering the whole back so no light can shine through?
@KatyDidRocks3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you're missing anything. Most Montana agates look better mounted with an open back - we just are developing our lapidary talents, so we went with what we had. :)
@thomasmorrow86294 жыл бұрын
Great video, Shouldn't you be worried about rock and diamond dust while grinding. Wearing and mask and eye protection will protect your lungs and eyes from particulates that are airborne with the grinding process.
@KatyDidRocks4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Although rock dust is kept to a minimum because of the constant flow of water, eye and lung protection is recommended. Thanks for the reminder.
