It's always with a tear in the eye, that you let go of the things you love, but that just means there's room for a new thing to love! I would have the Guzzi any day over the Interceptor, overall more appealing package to me. The CFMoto looks to me to be a winner in waiting, I would have one for the gravel roads around here. The ZX4R would just be a sweetheart machine, wouldn't it? Just enough power to be compelling and interactive with the look, feel and soundtrack of it's older siblings, it's got to be a win. The other manufacturers need to wake up to the renaissance in this segment.

I'm 68 years old, been motorcycling since 1974 and I have never had a new motorcycle. I did try once or twice but the process defeated me for one reason or another. I have always promised myself I will one day own a factory fresh bike but it hasn't happened yet. My last attempt was scuppered when I spotted the bike I was after for sale with 800miles on the clock and just two months old. It had lots of sensible extras fitted(such as a centre stand) and was a couple of thousand pounds cheaper. I couldn't resist.

I remember the 400 four cylinder bikes imported from Japan. I believe originally they were developed for the Japanese market as part of their test was to lift the bike from the ground so they scaled them down so people could lift them. They were very popular especially late 80’s and 90’s, when I lived in Australia 250’s were a popular choice as well. I had a Honda RVF 400 it had been de restricted from its original 112 top speed but that wasn’t what it was about it was the handling on the road as it was so light and well balanced. Honda used to do a special for the TT that would rev much higher think it was near to 20000 sure the engine life would be reduced at that.
@chrishart85482 жыл бұрын
The 250's rev to 20,000rpm and it doesn't bother them. The 400's made around 60hp. I guess if the made 80hp they would need to rev to 18,000rpm (the 400's)

On the Brough front end...take a look at the similar front end on your Goldwing which looks even heavier but due to materials tech is way lighter than it looks. Norman Hossack was doing this stuff in the 70's/80's and still looks like he is developing stuff today. Brough/Vincent and others were doing similar stuff before WW2. Like the aero industry there aren't many new ideas around that aren't refinements of old designs improved with modern material/casting/machining tech

There needs to be more 200-400cc motorcycles, at the moment all there seems to be are 750-1000cc flooding the market. The ZX-400 I'm really interested in, as long as the price isn't over inflated. As far as insurance goes, an idea would be to receive 50% back if no accident claim as been needed. May make people more careful on the roads and keep premiums lower.

On a visit ti Rolls Royce Aero Engines at Derby I discovered they use factories in China for some precision engineering of major components of their turbofan engines. I asked a senior engineer whether quality had been a problem with China. He replied "no, as long as you 100%spec exactly what you want, then it's very good". Of course, they have Derby engineers over in China to oversee production, a luxury that KTM might not be able to afford? Or maybe they can and they do, in which case all should be well. That V7 looks nice but I got stung by cam design issues on an 8-valve Griso. Cost me a lot of money and MG were no help whatsoever. The MG club took Piaggio to court over the issue looking for compensation to those affected but lost due Piaggio having bigger lawyers! I won't be buying anything from MG anytime soon! Great news about the new sponsor.

Great news roundup as usual. Regarding electric vehicles remember our true enemies are the government and the Civil Service. UK Government Transport Minister Trudy Harrison recently spoke at a conference where she addressed the future of personal mobility. She said it is necessary to ditch the "20th-century thinking centred around private vehicle ownership and towards greater flexibility, with personal choice and low carbon shared transport." Quite where the greater flexibility comes from not having your own vehicle is beyond me. The silly tart (other insults are available) is also unaware where power comes from or how electric vehicles are manufactured or dismantled. Now is the time to write to your MPs and question any prospective parliamentary candidates about their attitude to private vehicle ownership. When you have their opinion, post it on social media and make it public - good or bad.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Interesting question. Firstly it goes without saying that anything involving a gen1 1200N Bandit will be binge watched by me!! Secondly my main thought to the question is rather than any particular suggestion for make and model I think it would be interesting to see you review any makes and models of older gen bikes still being made and that that you have reviewed recently i.e Honda Goldwing new vs old or BMW GS new vs old etc and to then compare how much bike you get for the money with either option. If the new bike costs 30k and a 2002 model costs 5k then does buying the older model only offer 1/6 of the value? And any other comparison ideas you may have. Ultimately I think the bigger half of any KZbinr's audience is probably in the price bracket for the older bike. Personally I see reviews of loads of new bikes and the reviews sometimes make me want the bike however I don't a spare 30k for a specced out Goldwing but if you reviewed a K5 Gixxer thou I would probably end up wanting one and actually being able to afford it too! Apologies for the essay!

Suggestion for a year 2000+ review - Pierre Terblanche designed Ducati 900ss ie. Polarising Duke when released - looks and performance. Very basic against modern bikes, no rider aids. Rides on rails and great fun in the twisties.

Please could you do a vedio on how to get bikes ready for spring and summer… after not riding in winter and suitable clothing to buy for riding in summer

I love the idea of the ZX4R, and would love to see Triumph build a Daytona 450 Triple, based on the Trident 660 motor, short stroke and howling. A 450 triple would be roughly equal to a 400 4. small, light, and immense fun on Dorset`s lanes. Sadly though, Triumph will no longer build proper fully faired sports bikes, even though they would sell like hot cakes on a winters day.

Kawasaki announced the 50th aniversary bikes and i went to a dealer here in Australia wanting the z900rs only to be told already sold out as on 20 coming to Australia and that was only 2 days after reading about the release. Very Glad you didnt mention them as mcn on the net did as well as heaps of others with no mention of limited stock. Enjoy your work keep it up..cheers

Ninja 400 4 pot screamer would be great for those of us who remember this genre from the 80’s but couldn’t get onboard then. Nostalgia sells! Needs to be exciting and economical.

I like your point about Tiger 1200 availability. I was at the Motorcycle show and having spoken to the guys on the stand and dealers it did seem that the earliest you could expect one would be June which is awfully late in the season. I wasn't prepared to wait that long so bought something else.

If you are looking for bike suggestions, I think it would be fitting you having ridden a Busa, to have a go on the Kawasaki ZZR 1400, in the past I had two of these, and in my opinion probably the best Hyperbike to have been made. A very comfortable reliable mile munching ballistic missile.

Always enjoy your monthly MCN review, really hope you do review the 850 V7 Special in 2022 as its a fabulous looking 'retro' which we rarely see being reviewed, sorry to hear your sold your beloved Street Triple, I am sure you will miss it, I still regret selling my old 'Atomic Green' 955 Speed Triple with its awesome engine and ability to put a smile of my face every time, I wouldn't mind betting you buy another Street Triple (with gold wheels of course) sometime in the future.

A small I4 screamer with 50-70hp would be brilliant. Give it nice low gearing so you can red line it through the first 4 gears at legal speeds.

Couldn't agree more about the Goldwing being a superb bike, for years I mercilessly mocked my brother in laws goldie till last summer when he said how about swapping bikes for the weekend so he got my 2020 Street triple R and I got the Goldwing and both of us became fans of the others bike.

And another suggestion, the Yamaha TRX 850. Their take on the Ducati 900ss. Trellis frame, not a V-Twin but the first production bike with a 270 deg. parallel twin. A bit more of a whitegoods bike without the glamour/refinement of the Duke. Badge snobbery?

Would love to see you do a video of yourself riding the Pendle Witch Trail, through the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire. The route runs from Clitheroe to Lancaster. There is a lovely reservoir there too, called Stocks Reservoir. Very picturesque scenery.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Because of the pandemic and the restrictions on international travel over the last 2 years, me and my partner have travelled extensively across the UK, during this period. We have a few areas left on our UK list, which are predominantly in the North West of England. Thanks to your videos, we have begun researching Buttertubs Pass and Hartside Pass, as scenic routes to the Lake District. We can't wait to drive the passes in the Lake District too. We haven't been to the Forest of Bowland, but have just begun researching there as well. It looks amazing. Keep up the good work. 👍

Enjoyed the update Andy, cheers👍 I would say do please be clear when you talk about Insurance “companies” versus “brokers” as they are different and you are the brokers customer first and foremost; also sales documents are all clearly sent and available which would have stated what the transaction fees were when you bought the policy, don’t blame the firm if you didn’t take time to read them🤔 If you do want to talk insurance, so please be clearer which part you’re talking about and talk to an insurance professional👍

I'm insured with MCE and it's about to be cancelled - they're sending me a cheque. I should probably ask for a 30pound cancellation fee on top...

Hi Andy, I was with MCE, and I have been aware that they were going into administration since about November time, as you said. They have informed me that the policy will runout at the end of this month, January. They have told me I will be getting a refund, for the time remaining, as it happens, only one month left. Incidentally, on your other note about getting a cheque, did you know there is a feature on, on-line banking, that you can take a picture on the check and pay it in on line 😁
