Very helpful to see it done because I just bought one that “needs service” off eBay for $35!

Nice. Hope it goes well. They are pretty straight forward. Gotta really bend the the white solid rings to install.

How did you end up getting that little O-ring that is the exact O-ring that I need and it doesn’t come in the fox kit.

Hi! I accidentally unscrewed the small hex screw that releases the suspension fluid. Any idea which fluid it is and how to put it back ? Great vid, cheers,
@BikeTeacher4 жыл бұрын
no, I am not familiar with that area. Is that the hex that had a plastic stuck inside the bolt. It may have at one time. May need to go back to fox.
@danshell5839 Жыл бұрын
@@BikeTeacher If the fluid is released in any amount, the IFP charge is compromised, as is the IFP depth. The IFP may run into the lockout hat and yeet the valving. Send it to someone that can perform the full service.

8:50 That mysterious o-ring goes at the top of the stanchion to keep the disc in place at the top so it doesn't slide up and down scratching the stanchion. Why is that flat disc up there anyways? THAT'S the question. I found some tiny rubber bands at the craft store that look like they'll stretch over the air can to get them on the stanchion. We'll see if they don't dissolve in the grease inside the can. It would be nice if you could flip the air can upside down and mount it on the bike that way to keep that flat disc in place by way of gravity.
@BikeTeacher3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the flat disk is doing. I would love to pick the brain of the designers to have a better understanding.

@@BikeTeacher Thanks for the excellent pair of videos! They really prepared me for (today) rebuilding my 2001 Fox Float RC (likely the same as in the videos). Regarding the mysterious O-ring, mine was intact and set against the plate at the top of the shaft. The O-ring does not seem to hold the plate in place because the plate was immovable (at most a slight wobble) after sliding the O-ring down the shaft. Rather, the O-ring probably protects the plate from impacts from the shock body under full compression -- specifically, the squarish head just above the body bearing/seal/bearing sandwich in Fig. A (left side) of the 2000-2001 manual (page 20): www.ridefox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/00_01_RearShocks_en.pdf Rebuild went off without a hitch, except that my kit did not include the Shaft Eyelet O-ring or the mysterious O-ring. Both were intact / reused. Shock is holding air so far (an hour). Thank you again. Woohoo, another step to MTB mechnical self-sufficiency:)

Hi, Hi, Thank you for the video. I see grease around my rear shock’s shaft. The grease mark was up to where the shock traveled at sag level. Is this normal or what could be the issue? Thanks.
@BikeTeacher2 жыл бұрын
It can be normal. Especially if new recently serviced. As long as it’s not leaking oil, runny oil would be a red flag.
@danshell5839 Жыл бұрын
OMG. Not the metal pick!! Use a blue rag to pull the wiper seals off. Also the shock mounting hardware on the end of the Damper tube should be removed before the air can comes off so as not to scratch the inside of the air can.

I purchased this service pack but top can o ring was wrong thickness, way too thin! Had to use original ring! Also had that small broken o ring inside when I opened can, where is it from?
@BikeTeacher6 жыл бұрын
It’s possible the small o ring was accidentally left inside from last service. There shouldn’t be anything loose inside.
@MrOfficerJ6 жыл бұрын
That broken o-ring looks like the bumper that goes on the piston rod damper assembly. It is called the bottom-out bumper and goes between the shim and eyelet assembly (the part that threads and unthreads when servicing the damper body). Here is a link showing what I mean even though the model you are servicing is an older Fox model it is similiar. www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?id=143&m=bike

Good morning, you can do a maintenance of the Shox vivid Air R2C 2012, because mine is defective, and I can not fix it. Would you also like to know if I can replace nitrogen with normal Air Pump? Thank you. it would also have to show this maintenance in the IFP. Or I could do the maintenance of some Shox that had these two compartments, the Air is the oil, so I can build up the courage and be able to do maintenance on mine, because in my city it does not do maintenance and I would have to send the Shox to a city that is more than 1000 kilometers from mine. Thanks. I'm form Brasil
@BikeTeacher6 жыл бұрын
Hi, that has always been a job for the factory. So I have not had to do it. I have no idea about the nitrogen. Sorry I can not be more help.
@BikeTeacher6 жыл бұрын
I do not have a r2c to perform maintenance on, sorry.
@MrOfficerJ6 жыл бұрын
You can replace it with outside air but nitrogen is preferred because it stays longer as it contains larger molecules that won't go past the floating piston and into the damper oil. I believe it also has less of a chance for water to get in. You can probably get high pressure nitrogen from your local HVAC repairman (the people that work on air-conditioning units and related things).

I too found a broken O- ring when I removed the can on my Float RC. Were you able to determine if it is required? There is no replacement in the specified kit. Anyway, my shock won't lock out so I suspect that small broken O-ring to be the culprit, however it doesn't appear to be an issue for you. Thoughts?
@BikeTeacher7 жыл бұрын
+Bill F I did this job for a customer, he updated me the other and said his bike is riding great. I have to assume the previous service on the shock was done incorrectly. All his functions are still working. It sounds like it's a Fox job now. Your problem is not uncommon. Thanks for the question Bill.
@jayryan74733 жыл бұрын
I just found the same broken o-ring in my Fox float R. I opened it up because it was stuck fully compressed (This shock doesn't have a lockout just rebound adjustment BTW). Interesting to see you know no more than the people watching the video. You could have just had words up on the screen saying "take old parts off, put new ones on".
@gileshardy4342 жыл бұрын
@@jayryan7473 Very late to the party here, but based on my experience rebuilding RockShox monarchs I feel fairly certain that the smashed O-ring that fell out was the 'bottom out' O-ring. if you bottom your bike out hard now I would imagine you might experience a metal-on-metal sound (I can confirm that this was what happened to me on a RS Monarch... to fix this required the 200hr service where you rebuild the damper)
@woodchopper7962 Жыл бұрын
This instructional video does not show you everything you need to know for example putting the float fluid on your seals also dumping about 3 CC's into the can prior to threading it on. Also there is a procedure for pumping your shock up after seal replacement so you might want to look at a different video.
