The R7 is easier to ride fast, Less electronics, low end torque. Lighter, cheaper, more comfortable and better for the road. aka better for newer riders or people who want to develop their skills. The cbr600 is not that. The r7 is not in the same market as the cbr600 and zx6r. Its pretty obvious.

There are very good reasons to want the new 600RR however the now absurd pricing can't be ignored. A new 2024 (MY22) 600RR costs over $27k Australian. That's (give or take) 10k more than before they were removed from the market due to sales and Euro4 regs 🤔

Ahhh, the CBR600! When I was instructing (for gov bike licence), I had a fellow instructor, we'll call him Steve G, who rode one. Well, several, he kept crashing them 😂😂. Now, bearing in mind this was early 90's, after the last time he crashed (into a Ford Transit landing inside!), his insurance went up to £3,500 third party only with a £3,500 excess. On a bike that cost about £6,800.

As much as I'd love a brand new 600 Supersport the price is beyond ludicrous here in Australia. Dealer's are asking for $28000 AUD which is already within and around brand new R1/S1KRR/ZX10 territory. Edit: From Honda AU's website the ride-away quote is $29,046

I get what you're saying about missing the point with 140bhp, but for those of us who fancy coming away from litre bikes (I own an S1000RR and love it, but...), we really feel a few more ponies than the middleweight 100-120bhp standard would help our laziness for that 'get you home without the gearshift tap dance' end of day riding. 200bhp plus may be pointless, but the handling and quality of brakes and electronics on those bikes aren't. Superbikes still look the dogs, so perhaps there's a market for Gixxer750 levels of power and handling?

I think everyone wants a sports bike until they realise it's a 'one trick pony', which doesn't suit most of us who can only afford one bike that therefore needs to fulfil a number of roles - hence the popularity of adventure and naked bikes. 😊

And these aren't even proper sports bikes. They're not even that great at their one trick. Ride an NSR for any length of time and these 600s feel like what they are, uncomfortable touring/commuting bikes. I could see splashing out if they did that one trick really really well. Build a 600 two stroke twin that's 115 kg dry, yes, I can see the attraction. But this is 50kg too heavy.

Another great video! Small observation about the term "retro fad": the Triumph Bonneville was first produced in T120 and T140 forms from 1959 to 1983, totalling 24 years. The "new" Bloor-era Hinckley Bonneville has been produced from 2001 to the present day, so 23 years. I know Chris will be aware of this from his work with Triumph, but it's pretty cool that the new Bonneville will soon have been around longer in its current form than in the first, and shows no sign of being removed from the model lineup. Should we still think of it as a fad?

But I think supersport is making a comeback. Because once you ride a 600cc screamer, or liter bike SS, you realize "that's the real thing". I still tool around on my naked bike, but I ride my R6 the most. LONG LIVE SUPERSPORT!!!

Trouble with modern 600s is the 1000s have completely caught up weight wise. A modern liter is also right around 430lbs (195kg) same as the 600s. There is no doubt a massive cost difference in both initial and running but the whole corner speed argument is kind of moot now.

As a teen and younger man I was always drawn to sport bikes; the sound, looks, and performance all sucked me in. Recently, at 41, I rode my first "sport bike" in the Yamaha R7 and hated every second. Beyond the terrible performance and fit and finish of the bike the horrifically uncomfortable riding position, even as a small, 5' 9" tall rider, I felt broken after an hour and there was nothing about that bike that made up for the downsides. I decided I'll stick to watching sport bikes and riding the naked and retro-styled bikes in my garage.

I feel like its not about how comfortable a bike is, it's more like how lazy and bad shape people are... the CBR650R was uncomfortable for me at the beginning as a beginner rider, mainly numb wrists, but I learned how to sit in the seat, learned that it's better to hold my whole weight by my back (so a strong back muscle is needed), holding the tank with my legs etc... and now I can do 5 hour ride without stopping (only for fueling up) without any problem, and the next day I feel nothing... Same here, you just have to be in shape and learn how to position yourself, I read many comments on the internet that for certain people even the zx6r or the cbr600rr is also comfortable and have no problem...

If you have the money to own two bikes, get a pocket rocket. The contrast in riding styles improves your skills across the board. Yeah you’ll only take it out on the best days in our increasingly soggy summers but, those days and the odd track session, will be eye opening. Then you hop back on the comfy world muncher and suddenly you’re pushing corners. That difference in focus opens up potential you didn’t know was in the other. Plus if the rear lets go on the pocket rocket; what do you care? Steps out worse on dirt… 😁

600's are so satisfying to ride on the road, you have to work them to make swift progress, so involving. I loved my 600 SRAD ❤

Hang on did you say £10.5k? That wasn't a typo of the mouth? Dang it. I was trying not to get another Honda but thats got to be the bargain of the decade. It also makes me wonder why the blade is so much more and why there isn't simply a larger version of this for a couple of grand extra - like the good old days. Looks like I'm booking a test ride tomorrow. Oh and its good to see you back on a real bike instead of those blenders with a seat like some kind of prevart.

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, was a canceled order in my local dealer. Now sits in my garage alongside my Gen 3 SDR and i cant get enough of it. The Duke's only made it around the block since i picked it up.

When have you been able to ride for 2 hours on a sportsbike, the tank range won't let you ride for that long. Come and ride my GSXR 750 for the fun factor.

We haven’t forgot. Motorcycle manufacturers have tried to shove these sad parallel twin cylinder “sport” bikes down our throat but we’ll never forget in line four super sports.

its not only sport bikes , its also big touring bikes and all others that are discontinue'd due to goverment controll and the wussy will of manufactures to build what people want. Im not a fan of Honda but i have all the respect that they build this bike ( way to tiny for me ) compared to all the other mopeds that are for sale now with type names from the past , people are getting bigger and the motorcycles are getting smaller ............. something is very wrong here...........

Genuinely surprised Honda brought this back. Hopefully they can sell enough to keep making them when everyone else gave up.

I have an 09er, great bike. These new ones are $29k in Australia. I doubt Honda will sell one here. Seems they want the class dead.

You should race that 600 against any car that Carwow could throw at it. Just to show people how fast a little 600cc bike is. You don’t really need a liter bike to beat super cars 🤙🏾

30k or 15k pounds in Australia. Just a dang shame noone will buy one here, when you can get a litre for 30 and under.

I love a sport bike too, I get it they aren’t most comfortable but man they are fun and they make you happy. I keep a cruiser and a sports bike most my life and it’s very satisfying.

It is a different breed literally! If you are on a touring bike you will never learn how to drive a supersport bike but if you came from a supersport bike it is so easy to ride on a touring bike! Supersports bike are more challenging therefore more rewarding but if you wanna enjoy the scenery if you are on a holiday touring bikes are the best!
