I kept hoping for a G310GS Adventure, with larger fuel tank, upgraded suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. The G450GS is most of that, although it apparently has a 14 liter fuel tank that is slightly larger but still too small for an ADV bike. The F450GS is also the same weight of the G310GS with 14 more HP that will allow it to cruise more comfortably on the highway. It also has a big color TFT display, ride modes and all of the miraculous electronic safety enhancements. This looks like a big winner. For a couple of decades, BMW and the rest of the Big Moto cartel ignored our pleas for a lightweight off road oriented ADV bike because they wanted to force us to buy their heavy and expensive mid and full size ADV bikes. Even when forced to make small ADV bikes, they crippled them and marketed them as entry level bikes to get new customers on the upgrade path to their more expensive heavy bikes. The emerging Chinese manufacturers aren't part of the Big Moto cartel so they listened and did their best to make the bikes we wanted - The Kove 450 Rally and CF Moto 450 Ibex. The industry buzz and lost market share is forcing the Big Moto cartel to finally manufacture the bikes we want but they didn't want us to have. BMW Motorrad: I'd like my F450GS in Triple Black, please.
@Blockbuster203312 күн бұрын
I mostly agree, however I don't think the manufacturers ignored the pleas. Product development takes time. If you design and build a new bike from the ground up, including a new motor, that takes over 4 years. So BMW decided to make this bike in 2020 at least. If not even earlier. What they showed here is a mostly production ready bike that only lacks type certification and a few little details. So they're basically at the end of the development phase.
@UltralightMotorcycleCamping12 күн бұрын
@@Blockbuster2033 - I'm an engineer so I'm painfully aware of the new product development lead time. Riders have been begging manufacturers for a powerful lightweight off road oriented ADV motorcycle for at least 20 years and they kept pushing the R1150GS that became the R1200GS, R1250GS, and then R1300GS. The BMW mid size ADV bikes similarly went from 800 to 850 to 900. The G310GS was deliberately a bit too small to comfortably cruise on the interstate (although surprisingly doesn't seem to mind being rung out at 7500 RPM in 6th gear for a couple of hours), it was feature lacking, and had too small a range to be a *real* GS. Other moto companies did the same, with the KLR650, Versys 1100, Honda Africa Twin and TransAlp, Suzuki V-Strom 650, 800 and 1050, etc. Their ADV bikes were either big and bloated, or a bit too small and deliberately crippled. We were denied the unicorn ADV bike for DECADES. BMW seems committed to getting the F450GS to market ASAP, and that's admirable. Apparently, the design is mostly finished and it'll be a 2025 model. I'm not sure, but I've read that the engine, new to BMW, is a Chinese knockoff of a Kawasaki 500 engine, with a new BMW logo on the cast engine cover. If that's true, it doesn't require four years to develop that. When asked about the new engine at EICMA, the BMW rep was clearly circumspect, as if he couldn't say that BMW had developed the engine and was instead doing what almost every motorcycle manufacturer now does, using a generic clone engine in their new bike to reduce development time and cost.

I trust what the reviewer from England say's-if he is interested in the bike, then it must be good-if he's excited about the bike & likes it, then again it must be a good bike. It looks amazing to me-frame, chassis, styling, 450 twin (48 hp it must be reving in excess of 8,500 rpm), Sounds & look of the Akropovic is perfect. I think by looking at it that it has an off road bias-suspension, tubeless spoke rims. The weight at 175 kg wet is perfect which puts it inline with Triumph Scrambler 400X. It will be interesting to see how it cope's as an all round bike for going to work-weekend rides-trips away & off road trails, also what pull it has down low-mid for difficult sections like river crossings so it doesn't get bogged down especially with softer bottom to the river where you have to grunt your way out. Seat height will be the other factor-I think having an adjsutable seat height or other seat height options is the way to go so your market is more diverse. Definitly more off road focus than the 450 MT & the Himalayan 452. Will the motor be strong enough to do adventure riding or longer distance is an unknown.
