You are by far the most creative user of AI I have noticed. Really impressed by the pieces you are putting together here and the many layers they work. Both educational in AI, funny, and a homage to the human creators. Great job!!

Very interesting. Moments of apparent 'thoughtfulness' and stylistic references. As an experimental and improvising musician/piano player over the years, I think the 'giveaway' is that a player like Bill, would be taking us with him, creating small and large journeys for us to follow him on. There's a narrative in his playing that has a future destination, either in a few bars or over the whole solo. It's like some words that can sound poetic in random combinations, as opposed an actual poem. You can get away with non-sequiturs and meditational wandering, but not all the time.

After watching this video I had some thoughts rolling in my head as to how this midi Ai output of Bill could have been better. I think the main missing ingredient is a song structure or form, in this case a set of chord changes and basic intended melody. Bill doesn't just improvise in a vacuum, it's over a song structure. The output of the A.IVans bot doesn't have that so it just sounds like ethereal ghostly allusions of Bill. I have no idea how the prompts work but it really cool watching these videos and seeing how much CAN go into the prompting. Seems just limitless, especially as these tools evolve. I spend my whole day practicing and playing music IRL, but if I didn't I'd probably want to be involved in doing something like this.

I feel like a lot of people miss the nuances in Bill Evans playing. Prominently the dynamics in his left and right hand playing. I've heard plenty of artists, plenty of youtube people, that breakdown his music theory and voicings but no one ever gets the end sounds right. A certain artist wouldn't answer me when I asked if Bill Evans was an inspiration because it was quite obvious (in my opinion) that her piano playing was largely influenced by Bill Evans. Years later after becoming a bit popular she came out and said it. Anyway I don't think anyone can truly imitate someone's playing, I don't believe this AI can either because the data itself just isn't possible. You can get similar. But human error is a tragedy of a thing to copy.

I've been working with AI in a creative field for the previous year. You have discovered exactly the same as I have discovered … 1. AI has emerged already as a genuinely creative tool, capable of birthing entirely new concepts and offering artists unconventional suggestions that may not have crossed their minds. And also, curiously capable of producing genuine beauty. 2. However, the finesse and complete execution, and "making sense" of AI's outputs still needs a human touch. Current AI requires human intervention for refinement. Interestingly, I've found that the workload is quite comparable to starting from scratch. This isn't necessarily a drawback, though, as serious artists are rarely ones to shy away from hard work. 3. AI, in essence, is a remarkable creative COMPANION in the artistic process. Personally after about 18 months working with this, I now think this will always be the case. A companion not a creator. 4. Of course there is a predictable swarm of individuals seizing the opportunity to exploit AI as a shortcut. Aiming to lessen their workload and expedite the learning curve in areas where they lack expertise. So our ability to discern and navigate this becomes crucial.
@kw9172

Interesting perspective. As an instrumentalist, I tend to see AI as the enemy, taking away recording opportunities from musicians, and failing to see any benefits, artistic or otherwise. The situation is arguably even worse for recording studios, where considerable sources of revenue, like voice over jobs, jingles and demos, have been taken over by home recording "studios" and will, to an extent, be overtaken by A.I. completely - for voice over work, the writing is on the wall, and jingles probably will follow soon. But there might, as you suggested, be a creative way to use A.I., but my guess is, most "creators" will go for the shortcut, and probably will get away with it.

Im sure sooner or later Ill be replaced by an AI but when the time comes I will ask (my robot overlord) that it at least look a little like me or perhaps an idealized version. I’m puzzled here; it seems the whole video is a giant joke. AI may be promising (and actually delivering) in many areas, but when it comes to music, all it generates is pure garbage. Yes, I know… it will evolve, etc. but I can’t but feel the author here is sarcastic to say the least. I empathize with the cats shown in the video
@digidope

What you call here "garbage" is for others interesting sounds. When AI "goes wrong" that is where it gets interesting as that is something new and previously un-heard. Currently Suno v3 can generate many music styles as they are. Better it does it, the more boring it is.

The title alone is beyond infuriating To remove jazz from its cultural and political context, to throw together something that, at its core, is calculated and programmed and then slapping a title as indicative as “jazz” on such a concoction of blunt mediocrity which would have bill evans rolling in his grave, is insulting to this art form on so many levels. Ai will never be an apt substitute for genuine human expression, but we as listeners have to recognize the inherent value in that and denounce ai “art”. Bill Evans himself said “Great art is born from dedication, passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence”, there is no doubt in my mind that he would be livid over the rise of ai content. We cannot let expression lose its value in art.

So, obviously the future of music is secure with all of our technological advances - as long as one has no soul or ears to tell the difference. The video is funny, the music is dreadful (not even close to what Evans was doing). Perhaps, the creator was merely being ironic. I hope so - that it was all tongue-in-cheek - otherwise his perceptions are in dire need of sharpening.
