If you watch something for 40 years and cannot instruct someone in how to complete observed task. Give up.
@jonscurry54585 жыл бұрын
@Chaitan Reddy What? If a person watched 80 years of programming being broke down football style.... (you know with commentators explaining the ins and outs... checking in with ancillary TV shows, articles written about said topic , conversations had with others with similar interests, etc... they way football fans behave.) if that individual then said " I have literally no clue how to do this or how to instruct someone in the basics. No judgement but I would seriously access again the individual's aptitude for any task. Literally any task. There are people who are great at their job a year in and others who've been on the same job for 20 years and who's performance can greatly be improved. My point is if you watch something for for years and years and don't do the work of examining, studying and growing in what you're watching...what the heck are you doing? Give up. Or spend your time differently. Just my opinion
@jonscurry54585 жыл бұрын
@Chaitan Reddy I guess it's a personality thing. If I spend any amount of time watching something then I'm not happy until I've broke it down and studied it and thought about it and its tangentials. I'm a weirdo. I also know that there are UFC coaches coaching right now who for all intents and purposes suck and you would in fact be a better option than that individual. Not the best, but better than the worst. Hue Jackson went like 0-30 as the head coach of the browns...Bill Burr would have in fact been a better coach. Speaking in generalities is dangerous. Its irritating. It puts limits on situations and people the the speaker has no knowledge of. Sorry, me just getting my drawers in a bunch. Agree to disagree.
@jonscurry54585 жыл бұрын
@Chaitan Reddy So the 0-30 thing no thoughts on that? This weekend you're talking the elite of the elite. How many fighters are under contract to UFC? Hundreds? And all those coaches are unassailable? I agree with you that if you sat on a couch and watched UFC fights for 1 year, but were watching like watching paint dry and never got up. Never went to a class. Never sparred . Never spoke with others about strengths and weaknesses in concepts and tactics...literally just sat there with a TV on and did not learn anything ...not fighters names, not fighters style, not the holds, punches, kicks, not counters to style, didn't understand why one fighter lost or won, or began to understand that a particular win or loss was sort of fluky based on emerging data seen thru this year long fight binge... Didn't begin to see the affect of different coaches against different coaches. If a person didn't pick up just the vocabulary of techniques, of attacks, of defenses. If an individual didn't begin to understand the tapestry at work. I would be surprised. Maybe I'm misunderstanding cause when he says 40 years, and you say 80 years, and I say a year of watching I'm not talking one 15 minute fight per week. I'm talking 15 hours of fights per week for 1, 40 , 80 years. Of course adding practice would make a better candidate (I'm not disputing that) in addition to the 15 hours per week but I know folks who put in a ton a hours at various task and still are weak. Then I know some others who apply themselves differently and excel with less time put in. So to say : Just because you watch 40 years of football doesn't mean you can coach football. Well there are some individuals who can coach football after a few days of watching and there are coaches who still suck after a 20 year career. Bill may not be able to and that's cool that he knows himself so well but don't inflict one's own self image upon the world it's not a one size fits all planet. Again agree to disagree I don't think either one of us is moving on the point but good discush.
@jonscurry54585 жыл бұрын
Chaitan Reddy Ok, unassailable coaches. Wow. I wonder if.. and this is just me thinking.. but I wonder if all 300-500 of those fighters would say: I have never had a bad coach. That would surprise me if all 400 male and female fighters under contract to the UFC said that, but I'll bow to your expertise. Also again, Hue Jackson went 1 win 36 losses and 3 ties in a little over 2 seasons. He is still considered a competent coach. Not by me but by professionals. Just because someone has a job, even if it's a good amount technical knowledge involved, doesn't mean they are good at said job. I think great leaders and hard workers are just that. Just the having a specific title (Coach, executive, manager, comedian) doesn't inherently make a person a great leader or hard worker. It doesn't take much to get a job. In most cases if you have an IN with the right person you can get a shot at any job. I believe in performance judgement. But seriously we will not agree. I have had to many experiences with people whom based on their position, credentials, personal referrals are viewed as good at their disciplenes and responsibilities only to personally observe and realize the individual is not as proficient as first thought. In fact more often than not I'm disappointed in these 100% certified individuals. (High standards) Seriously we will not come any closer on this but the convo is something I will continue to reference in better understanding the world around me. Thanks

James Fallon ran the test of himself, and found out that he has various markers of psychopathy, but how he was raised, was loving and selfless, so he cries at movies, and has other genuine emotions. I like how Tom was clearly ripping off Punch Drunk Love with the smasing the face comment and nobody even notices and thinks he's acttually psycho rather than a guy who rips off somewhat obscure movie lines.
@michaelegan35225 жыл бұрын
Exactly! "Gouging eyes out", "smashing her face with a sledgehammer" is too specific to not be ripped straight out of that movie.

@mizzou196 жыл бұрын
Well, it started when he made some jokes about a certain segment of Louisiana citizens (known as "cajuns"...feel free to google) in one of his specials. Then, supposedly, Trump said a wall at the US border would be beneficial because it would keep out people from "shithole countries," like Mexico. Tom then made a joke that maybe we should also consider putting up walls around "shithole states," like Louisiana. The jokes were met with a fair amount of controversy; a lot of people from Louisiana spoke out saying they weren't mad and understood he was only kidding...but others were offended and said some nasty things to him via Twitter and emails. Some people even made death threats. As for the sweatshirt, LSU is by far the most popular university in the state (as well as one of the better football programs at the college level). It's safe to assume that many Louisianans offended by Tom's jokes are also fans of the school, so you can imagine how they'd feel seeing him wear it.
