I have had the pleasure of meeting David a couple times. Let me tell you, he is the real deal. He lives what he sings. He is the nicest, most humble, genuinely Godly man you could ever want to know.

The first time I heard David Phelps was a night I was coming home from a dance for special needs children. My children are severely autistic so you can image how exhausted I was. After he hit that first high note I had to pull over. The tears I was crying made it impossible for me to drive. By the time the song ended, my children, my hyper children, seemed to be in awe of his voice. They were all quiet as if they were hanging on to every word of the song, even after it ended. That song has always been my favorite Christmas song but after hearing, David sing it, it is my favorite song. You can almost feel as if you were there in Bethlehem experiencing the birth of our king.

This song moves like no other! It is sung by an observer who KNOWS this night is the night Jesus came to us! The observer knows he is what the soul yearns for and he calls out to fall to your knees because of how magnificent this night is… it is too much to take in! Then David gets up and puts his talent to telling the story

The singer is David Phelps. Bill and Gloria Gaither hosted the concert. Bill was the man who pulled David back out at the end. Gloria was the blond lady on the front row of the choir, both hands in the air near the end of the song. Bill and Gloria Gaither are legends in the Gospel music genre, writing hundreds of songs that are still sung today in churches around the world. David is the best male vocalist on the planet and has been for the past 25 years. I know...I have seen him live 11 times live from the front row, met him and his family multiple times and have been to his home for two barn bash events in Tennessee as well. He is immensely talented but as gracious and humble as he is talented. The best that I have ever heard in any genre. Reply

I think this was recorded in the early 2000’s. I’ve watched Phelps sing this song in multiple videos and in various venues through the years. He has an incredible gift. Without a doubt, this was his best performance IMO, and the most powerful performance of this beautiful song that I have ever seen from any artist. I watch it multiple times every Christmas season & probably watched it 50 times at least. Each time is as good as the last, never gets old and always gives me goosebumps! This is absolutely the best performance of any song from anyone I’ve ever witnessed.
