"Mystery Incorporated" was a very intriguing take on the franchise, and for the most part it worked. A lot of the characters interactions were interesting, Pericles was a fascinating villain, the overarching story and dark tone were captivating, and the countless references to previous installments and other Hanna-Barbera shows were a real treat (especially in 'Mystery Solvers State Club Finals'). The only major things that bothered me were Velma in the first dozen or so episodes and the cynicism in some parts. Velma seemed too unlikable when she urged her relationship with Shaggy, especially in the episode where that Terminator-dog framed Scooby. Luckily, by the second half of Season 1, she really began to improve and became a more sympathetic character from there on out. With that aside, MI is still worth checking out.

It shows you really appreciate all aspects of this series.
@pumpkinpartysystem2 жыл бұрын
It kind of makes sense why it didn't work. Velma isn't really into guys in general in the show, she's written as a lesbian, but when the society is so heteronormative around you you feel like you're "supposed" to be into guys. She didn't really like Shaggy in the way she thought she did but she didn't really know what it was supposed to feel like and she just guessed her feelings wrong, and she was trying to "fix" him in the hopes that maybe that'd help spark some stronger feelings for him but it just wasn't gonna happen. Shaggy choosing Scooby over her is probably one of the best things he ever did for her long term.
@RGBtheRhinoOverwatcher2 жыл бұрын
@@pumpkinpartysystem X2: Wolverine's Revenge video game was a very intriguing take on the X-Men franchise (especially the 1992 animated series), and for the most part it worked. Sabretooth was a fascinating villain/boss, the story and dark tone were captivating (where Wolverine must find a cure for Shiva Virus before he dies). The only major things that bothered me is the extremely hard difficulty. To beat Magneto in a boss fight, you have to use one particular attack from one particular spot (while dodging the wide and painful arrangement of things he'll send flying your way) to knock him down and beat the crap out of him. If that wasn't bad enough, you're on a clock - beat him before he gets his power-dampening collar off and instantly murders you. And to make it worse, he's not even the final boss. If there was ever a time and place to use the built-in Invincibility code, now would be it.

Fred's story in this series was surprisingly tragic. His narcissistic father was more interested in tourism profits than raising his son. Then after Fred has to unmask his father, Fred learns that he was actually adopted as a ploy against his biological mother and father, who are still alive. And when Fred starts digging into his biological parents, he finds out that they are actually much worse than the father who raised him, realizing later that they were corrupted by an artifact. His birth parents go so far as to get plastic surgery as a way to trick Fred into giving them the artifact, later dropping all pretenses and go after Fred in an attempt to kill him, helping an eldritch beast kill one of his school friends when she tries to protect the current Mystery, Inc. His birth parents are eaten in their corrupted state by the beast when they pledge their service to it. Before Fred's adopted father is also eaten, a dream world version (but more or less a genuine copy) apologizes to Fred and admits that even though he didn't adopt him for the right reasons, he still considers him his son. (Did I mention that Fred had to watch all three die?) Then when the corrupting artifact is destroyed, it resets the timeline as though it never existed, with only the current Mystery, Inc. remembering. In the new timeline, Fred's birth parents are uncorrupted and happily raising him, while his adopted father doesn't remember raising Fred at all, only saying that he wished he had kids. Did Fred steal the writers' waifu or something??

Mystery Inc was great. The characters were certainly way more interesting and acted as real teenagers and their relationships were actually important for the story. I also like how the old Mystery Inc group were cool and interesting parallels of the current characters. Great video by the way.

It was on Netflix when I was younger so it impacted my sisters and me a lot- it, of course, was taken off but recently returned to Netflix- it was really complicated to younger me and going back and rewatching it was incredible;e. The coloring and music complement the show so well and the artistic taste was put together sooo well! The plot was another thing that had me awed it was just as complex as I remembered and I still enjoyed it, I was able to piece together how they had every little thing be intentional and move the plot forward. It was awesome to rewatch and it makes me simply ecstatic that I was able to rewatch and understand the show.

You've hit the nail on the head. Before it was quite a shallow show where the characters had nuonces like their phrases or specialities when it came to mystery solving but no real character development. As a result, as a kid (in the "whats nee scooby doo? era) I didn't mind the show but it didn't leave me caring too much in the end. Having watched a load of clips on KZbin of Mystery Inc I'm amazed at the transformation and maturity it brought. It seems like a show I could watch and enjoy even as an adult. I especially loved the way a character like Daphne was done. Her design was best iteration I've seen and really captured who she was in the series, an attractive young woman who was constantly ignored by Fred even though she would be a catch for most people. It gave relevance to a character the was just there really in older series. There were actual arcs and consequences in the plots and was overall just quite mature. The way characters interacted was interesting too. It just felt wholesome and noteworthy. Definitely THE BEST iteration of Scooby Doo I've seen.

I’m glad to see more stuff covering it now!
