I think it's a kinda weird question to ask "why was that put there?" from a metalhead. I mean, noises that aren't typically "beautiful" is all over metal. The distortion is an artistic choice, even if you don't find it beautiful you could find meaning in it.

Guy's it seems like you just attempted to turn it into a boring metalhead song ! And thats not what it is. The "Blown Speaker" sound is to emphasize the hurt & the F you ! Attitude. I love the fact that the distortion sounds were make by synthesizers not guitars, and the cut-off ending was really unpredictable and interesting Thanks for checking it out Please checkout, "You should see me in a crown" (vertical version only)

The distortion at the end while unpopular with some, was an artistic decision that Finneas made. I feel like it was made that way to show how disappointed and angry Billie was with this person that meant a lot to her but evidently the feelings were not reciprocated. I understand and kind of feel the same way..but understand why the decision to do it that way was made.

Sometimes y’all are frustrating to listen to as reactors, because you often don’t seem to listen with an ear towards the artist’s intention behind certain sounds, and instead spend a lot of time talking about something being likable to your ear or not, and as you said, you then stop listening. You did similar with Ren before. The whole point of the distortion is to create the unease that she was feeling. It’s like a painter consciously choosing to an include an off color in their painting-one that doesn’t harmonize with the other colors. It’s usually done to draw attention to a certain part of the painting, (because when things are too cohesive, the eye/brain skips over it completely, but is drawn to pay more attention to the parts that don’t fit), and/or to create a sense of dread or discomfort on purpose. It would be great to see y’all listening with more of an ear of “what is the artist trying to achieve with this discordant or uncomfortable element,” rather than just stop listening because you don’t “like it”/it doesn’t follow the rules or your expectations. With your backgrounds, this could be a superb reaction channel, but it’s like you’ve been trained out of curiosity and inquiry, which is such a shame. Several times that I’ve listened to your reactions and they sound like a first year student’s critique “I like it/don’t like it,” and second year student’s critiques “it follows the rules/doesn’t follow the rules”, and seems to lack the inquiry and curiosity of the next stage: asking why the artist made that irregular/uncomfortable choice and exploring what the effect of that choice is and how it relates to the intention of the overall work. It’s hard to understand not being able to understand why she would choose distortion (an uncomfortable element to hear) to wrap up a song that is entirely about an abusive (aka a distorted and uncomfortable) relationship-unless you just aren’t asking those next questions. I say this as a visual artist who was educated to approach critiques of visual art with an attitude of yes, reviewing how a work fits the “rules” and elements of design (which can be important to note), but to also deeply inquire about how and why those rules are being broken. Also to understand that it’s often how a work *doesn’t* follow those rules is in itself what makes it interesting, as the brain likes puzzles and anomalies more than it likes things being perfectly cohesive, and to consider the intention of the artist in the choices they made. Great critiques will note how things do or don’t follow the standard rules of the medium, but then follow it up with identifying how the broken-rule choices communicate something specific. It’s pretty a standard saying in art-learn the rules first so then you know how, when, and why to break those rules so that you can communicate a message or emotion. It seems like y’all are somewhat attached to the first part of that and don’t display as much curiosity or exploration of the second half. I hope y’all might consider this more in future reactions, and take this critique as intended-as constructive towards more comprehensive responses that your backgrounds really should be exploring. Best wishes.

Not sure about Richard, but Judson is a musician, not a critic..this stuff is subjective..I hear where you are coming from with learning the "rules" before breaking them, and it's often when those rules are broken that it makes my ears perk up in interest. Though objectively, this is a well crafted song and I get the choices, that doesn't mean someone has to like it..I for one, have a horrible time with the breathiness in the singing..takes me right out of the song..does that make it a bad song? Of course not..

Benz is the word you're looking for that rhymes with influence. She's complaining about the dude drinking and driving. She attracts lots of attention with clever lyrical rhymes to reject drug use, smoking, drinking, environmental abuse, and similar topics not easy for old time rockers to inhale.

I liked the distortion, I think it adds to the emotions in the song. She is also really angry in the song and distortion can sometimes be an unpleasant and aggressive sound, especially in contrast to how softly the song starts at the beginning. But I also personally love how it sounds in my ear, I think it was done very nicely, I get why people don't like this type of sound though.

Thank you so much for doing that guys, I really enjoyed it. I fully agree the sound is overly distorted towards the end, but relieved you enjoyed the song somewhat anyways. I promise not to wish for anymore pop. The chord progression at 9:53 sounds wonderful on the piano, and considering both Billie and Finneas experience synesthesia, I wonder if Judson sees any particular colors in that progression? Thanks again, great measures!

Ooh shit, the big fat noodle himself. Well, that her style of singing is one dimensional, as you put it, is definitely a popular take, whether you like her singing or not. She’s also sounded like this since 13 years old, so i’m fairly certain it ain’t the meds. Sure, her ethereal vocals are not for everyone, but I think people underestimate how difficult this way of singing is. But I too am curious to know if she can do harsher stuff with her voice.

Judson knows his stuff!! My Bloody Valentine is excellent..the song is good in my opinion..the brother is really talented..I'm not familiar with too much of their discography, but if it's one thing that takes me right out of a song, its uncontrolled "breathiness." If its done deliberately for effect, its different.. I do think both ms. Eilish and her brother put out some of the better music today, so I don't want to come off as super nitpicky..but all I can remember is the harsh breath and distortion..however, its a well crafted song and I get why peop!e like it..especially if you compare it to the other pop being put out for the most part. The siblings seem to sometimes blur the lines of pop and that's nice to hear.. Xo

That song is not even her best song actually .. people like that bc it has a more pop part at the end and people are so obsessed with catchy dumb pop songs 🤦🏻‍♀️! But it’s not her best.. it’s good, but not the best in my opinion.. btw the first part of the song is influenced by Julie london and overall yes, one of many Billie influences is My Bloody Valentine 😊 overall they do everything 50% and 50%. She also produces too. They do everything together. And she decides obv the composition and everything!
