Wait, I think you gave incorrect information. Right at 3:43 you talk about hydrolyzed whey containing no lactose and go right in to being hypoallergenic. Allergy and lactose are totally separate. Lactose is inability to digest the sugars. An allergy is a inflammatory reaction to a protein that is harmless to most people. Not sure if hydrolyzed whey is actually hypoallergenic to people allergic to whey or not. Either way, telling someone something is hypoallergenic because it doesn't have lactose is not correct. P. S. I'm just a rando on the internet but I'm pretty sure I'm not talking out of my butt.

Sorry Dr. Layne, but this time you got it wrong. You wouldn't know this, of course, because leaky gut caused by whey protein powder is not from any of the ingredients listed. It is caused by the "naturally occurring MSG" in most processed proteins (glutamate amino acids that are "shed" from their parent protein during processing, which, to rectify the open molecular bond assume their mono-salt molecular structure...Monosodium glutamate). MSG created as a "natural byproduct" of protein processing IS NOT listed in the ingredients (because it wasn't added). Soy sauce is super concentrated liquid MSG (marinade tough meat in soy sauce overnight, and it becomes tender...that is MSG breaking down muscle tissue). How do I know all this? Because MSG causes havoc to the central nervous system and brain. To those intolerant, like myself, whey protein powder exacerbated my epilepsy and gave me seizures (there is that much MSG in whey protein powder). I actually treated my condition by going on the G.A.R.D. (Glutamate, Aspartate Restricted Diet/Gut Absorption Recovery Diet) developed by Dr. John B. Symes (a veterinarian who has effectively treated / reversed / eliminated the symptoms of all manner of neurophysiological and neuropsychological disorders (including fibromyalgia, ADD/ADHD, epilepsy, autism, schizophrenia, and more) in tens of thousands of animals and thousands of people. There are no "randomized human trials" for the effectiveness of the G.A.R.D., only thousands of POSITIVE OUTCOMES for those who had no choice but to turn to a VET because allopathic medicine FAILED THEM UTTERLY (myself included), because there is NO MONEY to be made with a strict elimination diet like the GARD. Don't take my word for it, here is Dr. Symes's website: dogtorj.com/

hey thanks for summing it up quickly. after poking around to see what people were saying about Isolate whey, I bought a 5 lb bucket of it. There's only three ingredients in it. They list it EXACTLY as: "Whey protein Isolate, (whey protein, soy, lecitin)" and the weight ratios are 33 gram serving to 30 grams protein. So, not much other stuff in it. NOW after buying it I find out that Whey Isolate will spike your insulin like mad. my question is this: how can I lose weight when I'm spiking my insulin because I hear that you can only burn fat from your body when the insulin is low. Got any comments on this conundrum ?
@clevername3339 ай бұрын
well, protein is not consumed for weight loss. If you want a pure weight loss protocol, then try keto and eat moderate protein and higher fats. Macro breakdown of 70% fat, 5% carbs, 25% protein. If you want to build muscle, eat 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of body weight and fill in the macros with carbs or fat as energy. Now about insulin spikes, first they are temporary and you will go back to a low insulin state after. Second, insulin is the strongest growth hormone in your body, and it is vital in muscle protein synthesis so taking whey protein right after a workout and having a spike in insulin is key to muscle growth. So, plan your program for your goals. Protein is not consumed for weight loss. Protein is consumed for preserving muscle or muscle growth.

I would like to know Layne's opinion on acute injury recovery protocols. I personally believe that the PT/Doctor Advice for acute injury of RICE Rest Ice Compress and Elevate are unnecessary and potentially harmful to healing. I would like to know if you could look at the research and give us your opinion. I feel like the suggestion is wrong for a similar reason to why people saying sugar causing cancer is wrong. I think they cannot understand the difference between acute and long term inflammation as well as they misunderstand the mammalian wound healing process. The first step to signal wound healing is inflammation and it signals the healing process to continue. But for some reason we try to get rid of the inflamation. I think its important to have the inflammation to both heal and tell your body not to use the injured area because it is inflamed and painful. I dont have acces to a lot of research but the only paper i could find on the topic actually saw more necrotic tissue in the icing of wounds and slower healing so it seems like it really doesnt add up as advice.

Can you help me, please? I started taking whey protein, and I gained six pounds in two weeks despite being in a calorie deficit. I started a weight loss journey two years ago. I lost about 55 pounds by operating in a constant calorie deficit. I plateaued and had no idea what to do. I started to gain weight again, but very slowly. I would gain it and then lose it. Gain it and then lose it. Then I had a slow gain again. I wanted to try something different to shock my body (besides increased exercise). So, I tried taking whey protein and dropping a meal (breakfast). I did have noticeable digestive issues after beginning whey. It was a whey concentrate. I did not believe that I was lactose intolerant. I have never had a noticeable problem with dairy before. Today marks one week since I stopped taking whey protein (concentrate), and I dropped two pounds. Hopefully, the trend continues because the sudden six-pound weight gain freaked me out, especially when I knew that I hadn't consumed nearly enough calories to gain six pounds in two weeks. I count my calories and keep track in my fitness app. I have been doing so since 2018, so it's a habit now. I only drink water too. So, if you don't mind, I would appreciate your advice or insight as to what might have happened.

I had also problem with my back but drinking plenty of water, proper daily stretching. Not immobilising it seemed to help

@@projecthowto How much water per day you'd say? I've had this chronic pain for 10 months now and it's been very challenging. Thanks for all the feedback!

Can i continue using whey protein isolate while i am on acne medications (retinoids) ???

As of right now, I have nothing against whey. But I don't like his approach. "On this channel, we don't fuck with feelings." That's an ignorant statement. He's very passionate about his love for whey. That's a feeling. Why would one get into whey, and fitness and all that? To * feel* better, to feel good. So... It's lame when people say unconscious things like this

Just started taking whey and the bf said it would wreck my guts. Popped in to double check my research, being lactose sensitive, and noticed I bought that exact one. Hydrolyzed whey isolate. Haven't had any trouble and will reassure the bf I'll be fine 😉

I have zero issues with side effects. .... With any type of supplement. But i prefer a fully synthesized whey protein. Very pure, no carbs or sugars

I watch a video say that whey protein is not complex protein. So it do not need more calories to metabolize as natural source protein(like chicken breast). Also i watch them said that whey protein is spike insulin so when insulin drop it make more easy to hungry. Is that all true?

Hello anytime you eat you get an insulin response.. food needs it to get to certain parts of the body

Let me explain what "whey" actually is and where it comes from. It is an extract from cows milk. That's all! It's actually extracted during the cheese production process. It was once useless and was washed down my local village sewer system and became a problem. However, in the future it became useful and is now heavily used as a filler for particular foods and also is used as a muscle/weight gainer. I know of farmers that feed it to their cows to make them fatter! The crap you buy in a big container should just go in the trash.

"That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence". Depends how you define evidence. Your framework to establish evidences is still based on axiomatic assumptions (belief system). Anyway, still agree that his take on whey protein was extremely biased, but don't fall into extremes. It's not either the worst thing in existence or perfect thing without flaws. I think whey protein probably has certain inherent flaws for humans, but if those flaws are significant enough to be concerned is different question.

Ive got lactose intolerance and i started consuming whey protein yrs ago before i knew i was lactose intolerant.. were talking the around the yr 2000 onwards and they messed me up! some a lot more than others, but it was nailed into us that we need protein so i'd carry on consuming them like a dummy. But dam i remember it causing the worst issues for me, my guts would just drop and i'd be stinking all the time to, like hot farts all the time! nasty man lol. I also ended up with bad candida to, not sure if there was a link there..but before the body building lifestyle i never had any issues like candida before and candida wrecked me.

What if you have IBS-C? Will you still be okay with hydrolyzed?

I'm sensitive to dairy not exactly intolerant. I tried the exact same protein shake he is showing twice and both times it made me throw up. Could that be because it is hydrolyzed? I can didnt have this reaction to say Premier protein brand which contains (Premier Protein Shake Protein Blend (Milk Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Whey Protein Concentrate)). Looking for Lactose free options =/
