I had this surgery done but my surgeon went under my knee cap so the incision is above my knee. When I was out of surgery the nurse said the doctor wants me walking I was like 😮 already? I broke my leg and less than 12 hrs later I was getting my first surgery, had no time to mentally prepare nor ask questions. But the pain I felt on my knee after surgery was worse than the pain of the fracture itself. But I’m very happy with the results I’m able to walk, jog, run, lift weights, I’m able to continue a healthy active lifestyle as if nothing ever happened. Im forever thankful for my doctor, anesthesiologist and nurses!!

I'm a medical student currently doing intership.. recently in my ortho posting I came across a case in trauma..he was a young guy 25..26yr old..caught in a road accident had a compound fracture (his fractured bones were visible from outside)and broke both his tibia and fibula..we diagnosed him nd admitted in ward..he was so worried when I visited him in ward to collect his blood samples for pre op evaluation..he kept on asking me please Dr tell me will I be able to walk again or not.. I reassured him.. don't worry you'll be fine soon..next day in OT my senior surgeons did tibia nailing procedure nd I attended that too.. I saw the whole procedure.. operated the CArm myself..assisted in suturing nd all..in a week I saw that same person walking on his legs out of hospital (with plaster on..obviously)nd I'm still in aww with my profession..how much change we can bring to people's lives with our skills nd knowledge..hats off to all the physicians nd surgeons out there who are working everyday to make people's lives better..🎉🎉

It actually doesn't hurt that much! All the nerves are in the muscle the reason it hurts is because your bone is out of place and broken shards are poking your flesh, and it's bending in ways your muscles don't want to bend. So once it's stabilized with a metal rod and all the sharp bits are removed it feels much much better.

So usually they do this when the entire thing breaks apart, yours might have had some remaining bone structure for your body to fuse back together. However if they had to set it multiple times and especially if it healed wrong you might actually have been a victim of medical malpractice. If it has to be set twice before it heals and you followed the instructions they give to allow it to heal that would mean they did something wrong.

@@king12191 Really? Broken arms, fingers, toes, ribs, skulls and even lower legs all healed just fine without “Pins” (wires). Today, Orthopedics want to pin everything. Year just like chemistry based medicine, it’s all about money, not people’s health. It’s amazing how when the money is removed, the treatment changes. Go to the VA, pins are no longer needed on 90% of fractures. Germany, Australia and other socialized medicine countries, don’t pin most fractures. Like most industries, seeking profit and a skyrocketing cost of doing business forces doctors off any course they once had for helping their fellow humans. And before you say it; Yes I know there are some good doctors out there still. But they are far and few between.

have never heard of that - that's pretty impressive. In fact, I've never met anyone named "Doctor". Think the parents were manifesting their child's career?

I think, most of the amputies can be avoided with it, but with only one break, it's a total overkill. The most invasive operation what i have seen. Maybe you can drill from the neck, snd put a titan rod throughout the body.

I had went through this surgery. The pain after sedation was over was excruciating. I was able to make a step after almost 3 months. Now I could walk and run. But my legs seems to have a slight rotation. But the results are great and the cost was cheap. Now I am happy, and thankful to the medical team.
