Katie there is this couple who are good friends of mine and when they have to go out into nature they are totally bored and not sucking up any of the surrounding beauty but they get back indoors to their electronic devices and a big smile comes across their faces. As you said when you out there in nature with Josh you are together whereas you may well be sitting close indoors on your devices but you are not connected and therefore not together, some of us are really changing our habits but not for the better, so glad you guys got your hobby and eachother.

You should set up a camouflaged waterproof hide to catch birds for days like this. Yes you'll be sick to one spot but not as vulnerable to the elements, but an idea none the less. Cool landscapes in the serving half of the video narrated by Katie. Just keep a couple extra gas cans filled in your vehicle in case you go too far off the beaten track and get stuck and need to keep the engine running to stay warm. I wouldn't say it's sage advice, more oregano, basil or thyme...

The fact that you have a couple of northern shoveler's just hanging out in a pond at a park makes me very jealous. I'm a huge waterfowl guy and near me I've only seen them twice at a great distance. So cool! Otherwise another great video Josh and Katie!

I love those Shovelers. The first time we saw them was in a Bayou in Louisiana. When we moved to Idaho, I was worried I wouldn’t see so many shorebirds here but we have a great blue herons and egrets and all kinds of waterfowl. I think maybe we should spend some more time at the ponds this year.

Ha! Thanks Katie, just a fun play on words. I too love shorebirds and is the second thing I look forward to in the season, but for me it’s spring and fall waterfowl migration. This Monday I was able to get a beautiful image of a common eider sea duck that got lost on its journeys from the east coast. Made my week!

We definitely feel lucky to have some of these birds so close to us. I remember how excited I was when I first saw the shovelers at the local pond. I was completely beside myself. It was like a rare bird sighting. Only to find out later that they are extremely common in this area.
