In cycling there’s a formula, expressed two ways, to determine how many bicycles you should own: "N+1", where N = the number of bikes you currently own or "S minus 1” where S = the number of bikes owned that would cause your spouse to leave you. I expect there’s a direct corollary with camera bodies and lenses too 😆. At the risk of a full geek-out and with apologies to "Mama Bayou", I would welcome more future comments on the mic and sound logistics. So true about the sound quality. For me content still rules the day but paired with good production qualities just makes it so much more enjoyable. Thanks Josh.

Bayou Josh, I just found your channel. WOW is all I can say. You have much the same philosophy of photography that I do. I’d love to get your advice. I’m in the process of upgrading my gear. I have a very old Nikon D5000 with a Tamron 16-300mm lens. Neither one of these works for me anymore. They are not capable of capturing the quality of images that I want. They can get good images but not what I would call great images. I have been struggling to determine which mirrorless (or DSLR) Nikon to upgrade to (yes I want to stick with Nikon). I’m leaning heavily toward a Nikon z7ii and looking at the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 or the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3. Quality of image, Portability and Budget are the biggest factors for me, with budget being the breaking point. This particular combo would be at my high end budget wise. I’m going to be doing quite a bit of travel (Alaska, switzerland, italy, etc.) over the next year or two and my focus is primarily wildlife and landscapes. Do you feel what I am looking at would be a good fit for what I’m wanting to do or do you have another suggestion.

It's great you have so many upcoming trips lined up this year I know you and Katie will come home to share some great videos with the rest of us. I would luv to get myself out there for a trip but have spent way too much this year on gear and just ordered a new computer to boot, maybe next year. It has been real slow subject wise in SC the last 3-4 weeks, between temperature shifts to the nesting season approaching bird sightings have been few and far between. Today however a non documented event occurred that blew away myself and two friends walking in the woods, we spotted a Male Cardinal on the ground minding its own business and literally in the time it would take you to blink your eyes 3 times what appeared to be a Red Tailed Hawk came out of nowhere grabbed the cardinal and flew off deep in the woods with the poor cardinal vocalizing as loud as possible knowing it was someones lunch. We were only 15' away I would guess and just stood their with out mouths open and amazed by what we saw, never had a chance to get a shot. Take care - Jeff

Holy smokes Jeff, that’s one hell of an experience.

Jeff, I feel so sorry for that Cardinal! I would not have been able to get a picture either. That sounds like a traumatic experience.

I know it all depends on what your doing with the equipment but to be honest I see very little difference in the quality of your videos and those taken with the newer Gopros. This has nothing to do with the content, strictly the final result. I don't believe the average viewer could tell the difference between which gear filmed a video. Again the method of viewing contributis to the viewer experience. I enjoy your videos and the stories you provide with them. Please keep up the good work.

I often wonder if folks can tell. the GoPros certainly can't get the wildlife footage like the big lenses. (unless you hide them somewhere...so yeah, I guess you are right)

Just curious Josh, do you have a 9-5 job, or maybe you have retired early?
@BayouJosh2 жыл бұрын
I do. that is the only way I can pay for this silly gear. been at my career now for 20+ years and the kids are all grown so Katie and I are in a new season of life. It's been fun. 🙂

Birds are our favorite subjects. We were birders long before grabbing cameras. The birds inspired us to take photos. They’re like pretty little flying works of art. 😊🦉🌈🪶🦋🦅❤️🦆

It was good to see you again this week, not my favorite from you. I know these type of videos might get a lot of views for you but everyone else are doing these. If people are watching your videos most would be able to tell you what you are shooting with. This is just my two cents so its just not my cup of tea. Can't wait to see some of the other videos from the places you are going to this year and years to come.

I appreciate it my friend. Great point. These videos are definitely not for everyone. As a matter of fact I don’t even enjoy them. I make commitments to certain people and got to fulfill my commitments. 👍🏻
