Thanks a bunch for the video you made about your wood drop box you made. I have a few Birmingham rollers and they were very skittish about going in my trap, which I made using dowels. Today I made the wooden (like yours) and the birds go in with very little hesitation.

Thanks so much .. just starting out and a little overwhelmed by the amount off different breeds .. don’t really understand yet the difference between rollers and tumblers
@LozHarrop5 жыл бұрын
Put simply Chris, rollers literally roll multiple times, but tumblers fly for long periods and often really high the odd one might do a single flick or roll but thats about it.

Nice video as always Loz. Saturday I will try to let out my first 4 rollers. Just watched your video for the last details. My boxes aren't still ready but I prepared a temporary box. It is a mix between box and flight case. The birds already drop in in a 4" hole in a flight case. Made it 4" regarding your 45 degrees tubes. Tomorrow I will make a little video of the trapping and I will send it to you. Thanks my friend for sharing all your experiences. By the way your birds are very clean. Got some problems with diarrhea a week ago. Now only one of them still has a little but the birds look awful. The strange thing that the got some medicine to avoid this. I changed the water, suspect it is from de chlorides in water from the tap. At the moment it is a lot better Lozz, a video about this kind of this things would be a big help for all the new people with rollers. Laurence as you know I have experience with pigeons but this are different. Normally a pigeon likes maize, this ones leave it. Even broken maize. At least my ones. OK my friend, we will be in touch.
@LozHarrop9 жыл бұрын
Adrianus P.M. Heersche I think the birds Diarrhea problems are due to stress being in the open box but you can get that sorted out easily, cider vinegar at one tablespoon per litre of water is very good for their digestion too. I will try to get the next video up this week already injected my birds so will include that in the video. Cheers.

Hello, Thank you for sharing this wonderful information, Sir. @3:25, can you mix in some regular pigeons that do home with your rollers? I'm thinking that would work well - thoughts anyone? @5:17, if 'Painter's Tape' is sold in your area - or go to amazon.com (absolutely everything is available there!), it barely adheres, I think it would be marvelous. Wrapped around once, I think it would stick to itself well.

Hiya Loz. I know nothing about pigeons, hope you can enlighten me. We get a lot of wood pigeons and one has a ring on it's leg. It hangs out with the others and isn't a racer as far as I can tell. We don't have flocks of racing pigeons circling at all. Will it be one that's got lost and found a new family?
@LozHarrop5 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, if its rung it most prob is a racer some do look just like wood pigeons, it maybe follows them because they know the local food sources

you sure know your rollers mate. How would you go cutting the tips of their wings only the outer 5 flight feathers?
@LozHarrop9 жыл бұрын
Allan Carra I wouldnt cut the flight feathers mate as taping them does the same job and you dont have to wait for the feathers to re grow when the bird is ready to fly.

How long do leave the bands on the flights? Do you take them off each time they come in?
@LozHarrop8 жыл бұрын
you can leave the bands on until the birds are ready to fly free just take one or two off at first and they all wont fly off at once the birds without bands can now fly but wont go too far hopefully and will come back to land with the other banded birds.

BEAUTIFUL Birds!!! and your Traps/Cages are very nice! I have always loved Pigeons, but they multiply soooo fast! LOL We used to catch them at the local high school and then pen them for up to 3 months before we let them out, but living in the Piney Woods of Texas ... Raptors were quick about getting them. I had a pair of Rollers, but I find out that they were both hens b/c none of the eggs were fertile. Anyway, THANK YOU so much for your videos! I just came across your channel and subscribed!
