It's definitely the home of the fee! Everywhere else the prices have gone up a lot but in US it's off the charts. The list price is about the same as Europe/Australia (it used to be quite a bit cheaper in the 90's) but somehow you end up having to pay another 50% in hidden fees and tips on top. We wouldn't stand for that in Europe, and 90's USA citizens wouldn't stand for it either, but the current divide-and-conquor has worked extremely well.
