I just finished the transplant and am amazed at the results! Aesthetically, it elevates my entire desk/office, and it's a pleasure to sit at my desk and work/game/create. I para-cord sleeved my last PSU only because the only company making them at the time was cablemod and way too expensive. After watching some how-to vids, I did my own. Flash forward to my latest build, I was happy to see the cheaper options offering full sets for $30ish in a rainbow of colors. I went with a nice light blue/black combo for $30 on Amazon, the brand was "EZDIY-FAB". They are the PET plastic sleeved cables and look really sharp. They are super stiff, come with black combs and look incredible in my new PC. Definitely worth trying out the cheaper options for sure! I would pick these any day over DIY.

EZDIY cables are awesome too, grabbed some off Amazon, nice soft sleeve (not sure if paracord but definitely a cloth of some sort), long extensions (think they were like 40 or 45cm), big range of colours, phat sleeves and wire guage. True make them myself, also i really need to i have a enormous big case with an overkill custom loop and it's heavily oc'd (CPU,GPU) i need 14 AWG +wires to my base components :p But MDPC-X is very overpriced if you buy all of their components. I just buy the sleevings :) I wanted to ordered from their site and for al the the stuff i need it was over 600 euro and 50 shipping + i have to spend hours making them myself .... So I went to a a big special electronic store aimed toward businesses (i was surprised they let me buy stuff they said where the stuff was located roughly somewhere in the massive warehouse) bought it in bulk so at least got double the amount for 1/8 off the price. The quality is even better, if you have technical knowledge and pick the best ones and have like a catalog with numbers and specs they had because the amount off variation and brands. What i picked compared to MDPC-X stuff is the inside wire is a bit thicker and isolation comes in all sorts so i bought a high heat resistance and still thin and flex, the pins are pure copper even look gold plated resistance is a few micro ohms less and the connectors are available with higher max watt specs over what you see normally. The prices those mod shops ask for pins, wires and connectors are ridiculous. If i bought the cheaper stuff i could get it for 1/12 off the price. The sleeving is the only thing not really available in such quality and colour
@westonbahr30376 жыл бұрын
Mr. NeedMoreMhz That’s an awesome suggestion! I agree about the prices for the non-sleeve supplies. I started ordering directly from Mauser, and they have much better prices than most. Their site is difficult to navigate though. One trick I’ve learned is to use transparent heatshrink from the local Frys or electronics store instead of black. This lets you clearly see when the sleeving is properly melted. I mess up so much less when using clear. Cheers!

I recently upgraded from a set of those thin extensions to the UpHere cables and OMG what a world of difference. The old cables were some cheap Raidmax garbage that I bought from Fry's and they were impossible to get looking nice. The wires were never straight, standard size combs didn't fit, and the runs looked terrible because the extensions were too short. The UpHere cables on the other hand were incredibly easy to train, were actually long enough to get where they needed to go, and they look spectacular without breaking the bank. They took my PC from something that was aesthetically "just okay" to something I would proudly put on display.

When Adam put together the first set of cable extensions, did he put the comb bars on top (the side you see) and now everybody does it? I think it would look better if you saw the open (nubs) side out. If you had multicolored wires, you could use the transparent combs (nobody has as clear as glass) and paint the nub ends black so it looks like they're just naturally floating in perfect order. Pretty much the only way to go is monochrome wires with monochrome combs (both same single color).

I have a couple sets of the Asia Horse, and a set of CableMods. The Asia Horse surprised me. They are pretty good. Defiantly check that the pins are well seated though. I had a set that had some bent pins and one set that popped a few pins out. It's easy to fix if you have the issue, but could be a problem if you don't catch it.

yeah, makes it easier to notice when the cable pinouts are all fubar, and sleeving makes cap-mods that much more of a pita. B)

I just received my Cablemod cables this weekend. Plugged them in, immediately shorted and fried my PSU. Through trial and error I figured out the SATA cable was what did it. Put a support ticket in, 2 days later still haven't heard from Cablemod.

I had extender single braided cables but took them off because i have heard they can cause ripple,, do they change anything in power delivery? Or are ya better off buying the braided cables from the OEM ? Whole cables not extentions..

something really bugs me about the entire concept of cable extensions. only takes one iffy wire to jeopardize your components... are looks really that important? i would much rather SHORTEN my cables than make them longer. granted, my background is primarily in car audio installation, but computers deal primarily with DC power as well so i have some practical knowledge here. these cable extensions all have a NEGATIVE performance impact. you can minimize the performance hit with high quality, but you cannot eliminate it. DC voltage is very sensitive to impedance, especially at higher amperages. all those extra connections and lengths of wire can only drag down your voltage. i can foresee someone being very confused after adding all them pretty wires to their fancy 'puter and then suffering unexplained performance reductions or even crashes.

Extremely rare for a faulty wire with these. And there is no negative performance. A few tech youtubers already tested this theory. It's not the same as car audio by any means.

Know what looks better than all of these? A solid, minimalist case that is one color and has no stupid glass side panel.

In the UK. I'm using Shakmods cable extensions. Thick cables, great quality, customisable colours to your needs, actually pretty cheap. 10/10 would recommend.

i got a set of the pre-done cablemod cables for my home server system, to try them out, and i like them enough that i think im going to do a full custom cablemod set for my next main rig.

Perfectly fine with the the black plastic sleeved cables i got with my EVGA PSU. I think its weird to spend so much on cables unless you have maxed out the hardware you can buy.

Using Phanteks extensions for my 24-pin and 8-pin VGA cables. They come with one comb each, so I bought a comb kit and have been pretty satisfied with how well I've been able to get them trained and looking nice. Only about $12 each on Newegg I think.

Phanteks also sells cable extension kits. No individual customization but, at least in my country, they're the cheapest option, at about 25eur for the standard kit.

My last system I built custom cables for the PSU with MDPC sleeving. It was a ton of work, and I suck at it. The cables looked good, but this time, I went with cablemod pro (mesh). The thing with those is that the sleeving doesn't stretch like MDPC. Also, it is crimped into the connector.

Loved the video, but I do have to add that CableMod has a basic extension kit for $29.90, or about the same price as all the others you listed. They do fantastic custom cables, both my wife and I have them installed in our computers, but they have an affordable option as well.
